After a proper search, Selene only picked one unranked trait scroll which she found useful. Since the trait hadn’t reached Tier One yet, Leon couldn’t charge her for it.

Satisfied, she leaned into the chair and asked, "You mentioned building a Legion. Should I assume it’s Gwen’s idea?"

Leon’s brows twitched. "What? You don’t think I can also come up with such an idea?"

He was feeling dejected, since everyone around him seemed to think he wasn’t capable of coming up with anything clever.

Thankfully, Selene didn’t bother teasing him. "No, I simply thought it’s something Gwen would propose. She has been like that since we were kids."

Leon fell silent, remembering that the two young women had been friends since childhood. He quietly wondered how Gwen had managed to become Selene’s friend.

Perhaps it was Gwen’s genuine nature. Unlike most people, she had always been straightforward with Selene and never treated their friendship as a political transaction.

Sighing, he smiled faintly. "Yeah, it was her idea. She also suggested building a complete kingdom by annexing other camps and saving more survivors. However, that’s not achievable—at least, not now."

Selene’s eyes slowly widened, and she turned to Leon with a surprised expression. "Gwen said that?"

Leon nodded, confused. Wasn’t she the one who had just said that creating a legion felt like something Gwen would propose? Why was she surprised by her friend’s kingdom-building idea?

"Is something wrong?" He asked, noticing Selene’s prolonged silence.

The young lady’s blue eyes shifted to him, and she asked, "Don’t you see what is wrong?"

"Uh... enlighten me, ma’am," Leon said dryly.

Ignoring his tone, Selene answered. "You seem to have forgotten Gwen’s identity. Her grandfather is Donald Thompson. If he’s still alive, do you think that man would allow the birth of an independent kingdom?"

Leon’s lips parted slightly, then closed. He had no words for what Selene had just said. Everyone knew who America’s Number One Patriot was. Just as Selene had mentioned, the man was a die-hard loyalist of the United States.

Trying to build an independent faction in his homeland? Leon could almost imagine the old man casually waving missiles at him.

His expression deflated, and he felt like he had aged ten years more.

Selene shook her head, then said gently. "I’m not worried about the creation of the kingdom or whatever you want to make. What I’m worried about is the fact that Gwen would be forced to choose a side. That girl probably hasn’t thought about it either."

Hearing this, Leon frowned deeply. Gwen was an irreplaceable ally. Without her, he would probably be the one buried under papers and having to handle the administrative management of the camp.

Leon recognized her talent, and since he was serious about building his own independent faction, he wasn’t willing to let go of such a talent.

’However, on the other side is her grandfather...’

His forehead creased as he fell into a dilemma. This could be a huge problem in the future, and Leon hated such things.

Glancing at him, Selene continued, "You shouldn’t worry too much, though. We simply have to convince him to agree. And I believe we can grow strong enough to ensure that. The world is no longer all about politics, anyway."

"We?" Leon blinked, surprised. "You’re also joining in?"

She shrugged. "What? It’s a pretty good idea. Also, I want to use that as a means to spite my father—if he hasn’t turned into a zombie. He will surely rally support and try to become America’s new President, if the world stabilizes."

Leon remained silent, listening to her words.

"If he saw that his own heir had become one of the things blocking his path to his goals, how would he feel? I want to break his spirit thoroughly."

Leon was quite appalled by how frightening Selene sounded when she spoke about destroying the man who brought her to this world.

Still, he couldn’t stop a smile from appearing on his face.

"Well, I guess you’re right. We just have to convince Gwen’s grandfather to accept our ambitions."

Selene nodded like it was a simple thing, then stood up, yawning. "I’m feeling a bit sleepy now. Goodnight."

Leon gave her a glance and said, "Goodnight."

While he refocused on the plans he had been making, Selene walked back to her room. She was indeed starting to feel sleepy.

Besides, tomorrow was going to be another long day in the forest. She needed to be well-rested.

Suddenly, she paused, seeing someone on the stairs—Reymond. He had probably been there for some time, judging by the complicated expression on his face.

His gaze briefly moved past her and settled on Leon downstairs.

She stared at him for a few seconds, then asked, "Why are you awake?"

Reymond shifted his gaze back to her and answered awkwardly.

"I was going to go outside for a walk..." He said, sounding unsure of himself.

He hadn’t been able to sleep since after dinner. Cassie’s words a few days ago disturbed him, and it had been tormenting him for a while now. He didn’t know when, but Leon and Selene had suddenly grown closer, which made him feel greatly alarmed and insecure.

Sure, he wasn’t her boyfriend or partner, and he had no rights to control who she made friends with. However, emotions couldn’t be easily overriden with logic.

He knew Selene well enough, as they had been friends since childhood. The silver-haired lady only regarded Gwen and him as her friends. Others were merely acquaintances.

Yet, the way she now acted around Leon—relaxed, sometimes smiling, and even throwing jabs at him. All of it hinted that something had changed in their relationship.

Selene clearly didn’t believe his excuse, and she could read him like a book. She wasn’t dumb, and she understood why Reymond was troubled.

He had been her only male friend in the past. Leon’s presence must have made him feel insecure and replaceable. She was also aware of his feelings for her, as he had once confessed in the past.

However, she couldn’t accept it and coldly rejected him. Yet, Reymond still chose to hang around her without becoming overly persistent.

’Sigh...’

She walked up to him and patted his shoulder.

"You shouldn’t spend time worrying about insignificant things. We’re just friends."

She said it casually before walking past him.

Reymond stayed rooted in the same spot, feeling the lingering coldness of her hand on his shoulder.

’Just friends, huh...?’ He smiled bitterly, glanced at Leon, then turned back. ’I really hope it’s just friends.’
