World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 216: In His AbsenceThe rest of the week became a blur. Leon didn’t step outside the smithery even once. He barely slept, sometimes going two days without rest.
After their basic discovery of how enchantments worked, Leon and the blacksmiths began experimenting, using different types of leather with varying properties.
In the end, they managed to produce ten top-tier armors that had varying enchantments. The remaining armors were merely average, barely comparable to the Phantom Assault Armor in terms of Defense Power and Durability.
However, Leon didn’t look down on these average pieces of equipment. They were all Tier One, just without enchantments. That still didn’t stop them from serving their purposes.
On a Sunday evening, Leon was just relaxing after having a meal with the others when someone entered the smithery. The blacksmiths all turned to look, and their expressions turned respectful.
Leon didn’t need to look to know who it was. Only Gwen walked with such grace.
"Evening, Gwen. It’s been a while," He said, flashing her a tired smile.
Even as an Evolver, the work had taken a heavy toll on him.
Gwen looked at him carefully, noticing signs of exhaustion. She felt deeply concerned and immediately walked up to him.
Holding his face, she said, "You don’t look good. Have you even been resting properly?"
He was taken aback by her intense worry, and he nodded stiffly. "I slept... a bit."
Gwen’s eyes narrowed, and she looked offended. "You..."
"Don’t you care for yourself a little? If you break down just because you work too much, it’s going to be troublesome for everyone."
Leon wasn’t used to her stern behavior, so he was at a loss for words. He glanced at the blacksmiths—people he’d grown quite close to—for help, but they all pretended not to notice his gaze.
Leon’s lips twitched, and he gently held Gwen’s wrists, pulling her hands away from his face.
"I’m fine, Gwen. I’ll get some rest, okay? I just lost track of time while working here."
She snorted in exasperation, then looked around. She could see scattered pieces of armor on the ground, and she was slightly amazed.
"You guys have started making real armor?"
He nodded, his heart filled with pride towards their creations. "We’ve made a lot. And honestly, you’ll be surprised when you see what I’ve prepared."
"Oh, really? I’ll be looking forward to it, then..." Her words slowed at the end and she looked down, noticing that Leon still hadn’t let her hands go.
"Um... Leon?"
At first, he was confused, but when he traced her line of sight, his eyes widened slightly.
"Ah, sorry. I didn’t even realize that I was still holding you," He said as he released her hands.
Gwen nodded to herself, feeling strangely disappointed. ’Holding hands seems nice.’
"Why are you here, though?" Leon asked, snapping her out of her thoughts.
Gwen’s expression turned serious, and she said, "Have you forgotten about what we were planning? We’re going to be having the meeting tomorrow, which is Monday."
The young man was slightly shocked. "Today is Sunday? Wow, I really lost track of time, huh?"
He smiled bitterly, then turned to the other workers. "Alright, everyone. I’m giving you two days of rest. Well, one and a half, actually. But anyway, enjoy your quality rest!"
The blacksmiths were all smiles and thanked Leon as they left the building. They had all been moved to the Inner Ring with their families, and they thoroughly enjoyed their new privileges.
Leon watched them go, then turned to Gwen. "Let’s go meet with the others."
The two stepped out of the building, and Leon had to pause with a weary yawn.
He blinked to clear his eyes, then headed towards the villa. The Core Ring was sparsely populated, so they barely met anyone until they arrived at the villa.
"How has the mutated crocodile been doing?" He asked, his gaze turning sharp.
Walking a step behind him, Gwen answered immediately, "Ever since you left it there, it hasn’t left the lake. I also sealed the area so that no one mistakenly wanders there."
Leon nodded slowly, falling silent again.
Soon, the two of them were in the living room of the villa, and Gwen led him to the dining room.
Everyone was already present, including the little princess.
"Daddy!!!"
Nora squealed as soon as she saw Leon, and she dashed at him with her full speed.
Leon gently stopped her momentum, not wanting her to injure herself by slamming into him. He hugged her little body as she buried her face in his shoulder.
"Wuu... where did you go, daddy?"
He gently patted her back and said, "Daddy was busy working. Sorry for not telling you, okay?"
She nodded cutely.
Satisfied, Leon finally paid attention to the others, then sat at the head of the table.
"Good evening, everyone."
"Boss!" Miguel and Richard echoed with shared enthusiasm, while Cassie merely nodded. Fel offered him a small smile, as did Marie, who was strangely reserved.
Selene stared at him deeply, then shook her head slowly. "You sure know how to take your time."
Leon chuckled at her words, but offered no reply. Instead, he glanced at Reymond, wondering why the guy was looking at him strangely.
Surely, Selene hadn’t spread rumors claiming that he was a man of many colors, right?
He shook his head, dismissing such an absurd thought. He was well aware of Reymond’s crush on Selene, so the guy definitely had no interest in men.
Before he could start exchanging pleasantries with anyone else, Gwen cut in with a serious expression.
"Leon will be needing all the rest he can get, so I’d like to make this meeting brief."
They all turned to her, and the room fell silent.
"Marie, please give him a report on this week’s mission."
Marie’s expression cleared, and she started, "Just like you wanted, I’ve managed to bring all of the over five hundred Evolvers to Level 25, and they have all received their evolution requirements. Soon, we’ll have a lot of Tier One Evolvers among us. I have also prepared the list of exceptional Evolvers among this batch, and you can review it anytime you’re ready."
Leon was impressed and satisfied, nodding with a smile. Then, he turned back to Gwen.
The young lady took out a book, then started speaking, "There are some changes that occurred in your absence, and the first one is the restoration of communication."
Leon paused, his eyes widening. Communication was back?
Gwen continued, "We don’t know how, but suddenly the internet is back online again. Although it isn’t as reliable as it used to be, it’s enough for people in distant locations to communicate with one another."
She paused, letting the information sink. "The Social Media is ablaze right now."
