World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 215: Finally, A BreakthroughLeon was highly amazed and satisfied with this creation of his. After a long, sleepless night, he had finally crafted something that had higher Defense Power than his Phantom Assault Armor.
Unfortunately, this Will Combat Armor had no enchantments, which made it less impressive than the Phantom Assault Armor.
’It oesn’t matter, though. I’ll simply find someone who knows about enchantment.’
He finally turned around look to at the blacksmiths waiting for him, and they were all surprised by the dark circles under his eyes.
He really didn’t sleep at all? They were amazed by his resilience, and their respect for him grew.
Still, they quickly snapped out of their thoughts and greeted him with respectful bows.
Leon nodded slightly and called them over. Pointing at the armor set he just finished, he asked, "What do you guys think? It looks okay to me, but I have a feeling that something is wrong."
They all gathered around it and began inspecting it with seriousness. After a few minutes, Elena frowned and said, "It has good Defense Power and Durability, but it’s going to make mobility very hard."
Leon’s eyes widened slightly, and he looked at the armor again. Was that really true? He had been focusing on defense all along, and had forgotten about mobility.
To confirm Elena’s words, he wore the armor by himself and tested it. Just as she had said, it was hard to move in the armor. The knees felt cramped, and it was hard to bend his arms.
He quickly took it off and dismantled the armor.
"Well, what do you think can fix that?" He asked, looking at them.
Gilbert rubbed his chin and answered, "You simply need to chip away the parts obstructing movement. Think of it as a piece of clothing. If it’s too tight, you cut a portion away so that you can move freely."
Mark nodded. "You can then replace those areas with leather material. At least, that won’t expose the skin."
Leon nodded as he listened to their suggestions, and he quickly went over the modifications in his mind. By the time they ended the discussion, he already knew what to do and how to do it.
Quickly, Leon began to modify the armor under their watch, chipping away at the unnecessary portions of the gauntlets, thigh guards, and shoulder guards that hindered movement.
"Wait," Elena suddenly said, interrupting him.
Leon paused and looked at her, unoffended. He believed that she had something important to say.
Exhaling, Elena stepped closer and pointed at the armor. "Instead of connecting the pieces together with leather, why don’t we just sew a leather undersuit that can be worn underneath the armor. That would make it more comfortable than having cold metal and hardened bones pressed against the skin, right?"
The blacksmiths’ eyes lit up, and they nodded quickly.
Leon calmly thought about it, and realized she was right.
"But... can any of you do that?"
They all fell silent, until one of them—the youngest—raised a hand.
"I can work on that. Though, it’s going to take some time."
Leon shrugged. "That’s fine. We’re not exactly in that much of a hurry, so you can go ahead and try. I’ll have Nicolas bring over the best processed leather materials we have."
Connor nodded, and soon enough, Nicolas arrived with the materials needed. The young man immediately got to work separately from the others.
Meanwhile, Leon urged the other blacksmiths to start working while they waited for Connor. In a span of two hours, they made two batches of armors that were no longer classified as Crude Armor. Although not as good as Leon’s Will Combat Armor, they were not much inferior to his. Besides, their armor sets didn’t have the mobility issue his creation had.
Leon was satisfied with their progress, and was pulled out of his thoughts when Connor walked over with a complete suit made from leather.
Leon examined it for a few minutes, then nodded with a smile. "This is good."
The combination process started immediately, and they began to arrange the Will Combat Armor parts on the leather suit, merging it.
Finally, when it was completed, Leon checked and was amazed.
[Will Combat Armor]
[Rank: Tier One]
[Enchantment: Slightly resistant to low temperatures.]
[Defense Power: 950]
[Durability: 900]
[Description: The thirty-third armor crafted by a talentless novice blacksmith who seems to know no rest. His flawed creation was corrected, and a true masterpiece was born through collective effort of his peers.]
’What? It gained an enchantment? And the durability increased?’
That changed everything he had previously assumed.
’That means it isn’t about someone enchanting it, but about what else it can do besides provide defense?’
His eyes narrowed, and he set aside the armor.
"Connor, I need you to check for leather material with cold properties. Use it to make another suit, now."
Connor was slightly confused, but understood what Leon wanted. He went through the pile of leather that had been brought to them, then settled for one that felt cold to the touch.
He began to tailor it, and in less than an hour, he was done. Leon accepted it with a nod, then attached another set of armor made by Gilbert to the leather suit.
The result was just as he imagined.
[Free Winter Armor]
[Rank: Tier One]
[Enchantment: Highly resistant to high temperatures.]
[Defense Power: 855]
[Durability: 799]
[Description: An armor forged by a skilled craftsman with the collective knowledge and effort of his mates.]
’So it got an enchantment, and the durability increased too.’
"L-Leader!" Gilbert suddenly shouted, his eyes wide in shock and excitement.
"What is it?" Leon asked, turning to him.
"I leveled up! I really leveled up! I’m now Level 3!" Gilbert squealed with barely contained excitement.
Despite being an adult, he barely managed to maintain his composure. He was a person who was deeply afraid of fighting, and he had only reached Level 2 when he was forced to kill a zombie on the day the apocalypse started.
Since then, he had been stuck at the same level.
Leon was slightly surprised, but then remembered the three students that had come with them from the university.
’Those guys have become really good cooks now, and they level up after spending enough time consistently cooking.’
He nodded inwardly, reminding himself that killing wasn’t the only way to get stronger. It was merely the fastest way to get stronger.
That said, they had made a real breakthrough today.
’Mass-production incoming...’ Leon grinned.
