Leon placed a hand on the breastplate, then read the holographic screen that appeared before him.

[Crude Armor]

[Durability: 350]

[Description: A crude suit of combat armor forged after several failures by calloused hands and a heart yearning to impress. However, this piece is only the beginning.]

Even though the armor seemed below standard, Leon wasn’t disappointed. This was something forged by a woman who only happened to inherit the skill from her father, and it was her first time.

Turning to the woman, Leon asked, "You’re Elena, right?"

She nodded stiffly.

"Good job. I’ll ensure you receive sufficient rewards for this," He said, allowing a small smile to show on his face.

Then, he turned to the others and said, "We’re going to be trying again after lunch. Everyone must produce at least one Crude Armor before the day ends."

Instantly, the men were hyped up. Many of them had their pride hurt by the fact that Elena had been the first to produce a good armor, so they felt the need to best her.

After they all shared another lavish meal for lunch, everyone got back to work, including Elena.

This time, Leon paid special attention to her and watched as she forged. He didn’t just want to build their skills. He wanted to learn too.

After three hours, Elena and three other men completed new armors. Leon immediately called for a break, then inspected the armor sets.

The new ones created were just like the first one Elena had created—no enchantments, average durability, and average defense power.

’Elena’s second try is better than the first, though.’

He rubbed his chin as he examined the armor alone. He had given them an hour break, and they were sharing tips with each other.

’There are no enchantments in their equipment, because none of them can enchant it. So it’s a separate skill from forging, huh?’

Leon wasn’t exactly in a hurry. They had just started today, and they still had more than a week.

’I should probably try one by myself too.’

Soon, the one-hour break ended, and everyone got back to work. This time, Leon didn’t just watch. He joined them.

He picked up a hammer, found a worktable and a furnace, and began working on the materials he had. His first few tries were a mess. Not only because he was a complete novice, but because he had to control his strength.

On his first try, he had completely destroyed the worktable, and had to get a new one. After that, he began to learn how to use just a little of his strength while working.

After a while, it worked. Then he began to face another problem.

The skill issue.

Today was his first time trying, so he wasn’t discouraged. By sunset, when everyone finally managed to produce another set of crude armor, Leon’s success was a mere breastplate that looked very shabby.

Still, he didn’t mind. He treasured the shabby piece of armor nonetheless.

After checking through what the others had forged, he was a little impressed. The average defense power had shot up to over 700, and the durability had increased greatly too.

’We’re getting somewhere,’ He smiled.

"Good work today, everyone," He clapped, grabbing their attention. "You can go back home and get some rest today. Tomorrow morning, I want everyone here before seven o’clock. Understood?"

They all nodded, their expressions serious.

"Alright, off you go."

After a few minutes of lingering behind, they finally dispersed. Leon didn’t leave the smithery, though.

He turned back to the worktable, picked up his hammer, and continued working. Now alone, he pushed his concentration to the max and began forging with care and precision. Before long, he lost track of time.

Meanwhile, the other blacksmiths had returned home and fell asleep almost immediately. They were all tired from the day’s work, and needed enough rest.

Those who still had families simply shared their experience with their loved ones, then went to sleep. Although life was very different from what it had been several months ago, they had no complaints.

The world had suddenly turned into hell, and the country had collapsed. All hope seemed to have been lost, but there were strong people who were willing to protect humanity.

At least they didn’t have to worry about the danger of zombies and mutated beasts. And if they worked well, they could even get better privileges, such as access to more food, entertainment, and other things humanity could still enjoy in this situation.

The next morning, all the blacksmiths returned to the smithery as early as six o’clock, not wanting to be late at all. They were all thoroughly motivated.

"Huh? Why does it sound like someone is hammering something?" One of them, Mark, asked as they drew closer to the building.

"I thought I was the only one who could hear it,," Gilbert answered, rubbing his beardless chin as they walked forward.

The others were equally confused, but didn’t say anything and kept moving. As they got closer, the sound became clearer, and they confirmed that someone was indeed working inside.

"Who could it be? This early?" Even Elena was surprised.

They all hurried inside to take a look, then paused.

"It’s actually the leader..."

"Wait, look at all those armors. He made them all?"

"Crazy. Since when did he start?"

"Young people really don’t get tired, huh?"

Leon noticed them entering, but didn’t stop. They also didn’t want to interrupt him, so they fell silent and watched as he forged the armor set piece by piece.

The breastplate, shoulder guards, gauntlets, thigh guards, greaves, and gloves. It took him half an hour to complete everything, then he began assembling them. Once he was done, he placed a hand on the armor set.
