World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 230: Decisive Gwen, A SoulweaverAfter instructing Nicolas to arrange for the funeral early the next day, Leon headed to the smithery to check up on the blacksmiths.
It had been a while since he had joined them, and he wasn’t sure he would be joining them anytime soon.
Still, he made sure to check on their progress, and he was quietly impressed. They had made progress, and were now able to work on the top-tier materials available from the Tier One creatures.
After a few hours, Leon left them to work and returned to the villa.
Tonight, there was no general dinner, as most of them had eaten and retired to their bedrooms individually.
Feeling a little hungry, Leon headed to the kitchen and grabbed a bottle of coke from the maids, quietly wondering if they ever slept at all.
’Well, at least they aren’t causing trouble.’
He shrugged and walked upstairs, heading for the room where Gwen was resting. It had been almost twenty hours since she had started evolving, and she should have completed the process by now.
He knocked on the door, then opened it after hearing Selene’s voice from the inside.
To his surprise, Reymond was also present, and Gwen was already awake. The young lady’s eyes brightened as soon as she saw him, and she smiled.
"Leon!"
He allowed himself to smile, then walked over to her. "Congratulations, Gwen. You’re no longer lagging behind."
She blushed slightly and nodded. "Thanks."
Leon took another sip of his coke, nodded toward Reymond and Selene, then turned back to her.
"Have you chosen your Class?" He asked, expecting her to have done that. After all, her closest friends were here to give her advice on what to choose.
"Nope, not at all," She replied enthusiastically, her smile bright.
"Alright. So do you mind sharing the name—wait," He paused. "You haven’t chosen yet?"
Gwen nodded, finally turning serious. "I’m still a bit unsure, after all."
From beside her, Selene glanced at Leon and said, "She was waiting for you to come and looks like you didn’t disappoint."
’Huh...’
Baffled, Leon turned back to Gwen, staring deeply as if he could find an answer on her face. In the end, he settled for taking another sip of his drink.
"Alright, let’s hear the options."
Gwen nodded. "I only have two options, actually. Soulweaver and Soul Arbiter. Both sound powerful, and I can tell that the Arbiter Class would give me a unique edge over souls. However, the Soulweaver Class..."
Leon nodded slowly, understanding her dilemma. ’Soul. Weave. Weaving souls?’
His eyes narrowed, and he said casually. "While I also think Soul Arbiter sounds powerful, my gut feeling tells me the other option should have something interesti—"
"Done," She suddenly said, surprising him.
"—huh? Done what?" He hurriedly asked, nervous. It couldn’t be that she had taken his casual advice right away, right?
He wasn’t even done talki—
"I chose the Soulweaver Class," She said, her attention focused on the Class skills displayed to her.
"Gwen, you..." Reymond was also speechless, as he didn’t think that she would be that impulsive.
Could love really make a person go to such lengths?
He glanced at Selene, then shut up. He wasn’t actually qualified to criticize Gwen. If Selene had been present when he chose his Class, he had no doubt that he would have gone along with her suggestion.
’Haa...’
While the young man was having an emotional reflection, Gwen checked the skills available to her, her expression brightening.
"How is it? Good?" Leon asked nervously.
He didn’t want to be the reason she chose a class that was weak and below standards.
Gwen turned to him and smiled. "Thanks, Leon. I got six skills!"
The room froze, and they all turned to her in disbelief.
Six?
Six skills?
"Are they... useful?" Selene asked, curious and doubtful. Six skills were a lot, and the usual maximum was only four.
Gwen nodded.
"Yes, actually. Two attack skills, one defense skill, one perception skill, one utility skill, and one control skill."
"Wow, that’s balanced," Reymond commented, amazed.
Leon finally sighed in relief. Still, he couldn’t help but shoot her a reproachful glance.
"You really shouldn’t be hasty, alright? We could have discussed this better."
Gwen smiled and shook her head. "I trust you—or at least, your gut feeling."
"Yeah, right," Leon responded dryly, unamused.
Selene got up from the bed and stretched. "I’m tired, and I need to rest."
Reymond immediately looked away, not wanting to look at her and let his imagination run wild.
Leon glanced at her, then nodded. "You should eat something before you sleep. Goodnight."
Selene nodded and walked out of the room. "See you all tomorrow."
"Uh... yeah. Goodnight, Selene," Reymond waved her off with a smile, then promptly excused himself.
His crush was no longer present, and he didn’t want to make Gwen uncomfortable by interrupting her moment with Leon, so he was willing to leave them behind together.
Besides, if Gwen was able to win Leon’s heart, then he wouldn’t need to worry about Selene anymore, right?
It was a win-win for him, and he totally supported the ship.
Leon was about to leave too when Gwen stopped him.
"I have something to tell you," She said, her tone serious.
Leon raised an eyebrow, curious. "What’s that?"
Gwen’s eyes narrowed and she said, "It’s two things, actually. And one of them is a bad news. Perhaps both."
Leon’s expression hardened. "Go on."
"Alright. I activated my perception skill just now, and I can see that your soul is... damaged," She said, her voice heavy. "Do you know what could have caused it?"
Leon’s brows furrowed instantly, and he immediately thought of the cursed treasure he had used in his battle against the Wyvern.
It hadn’t mentioned anything about souls, but it surely said something about his lifespan.
Could it be related?
"I think I have an idea," He sighed, his expression dark. "What’s the second thing?"
Gwen’s brows furrowed, and she looked at him deeply. "You... you have another soul inside of you."
Her expression became troubled.
"It’s strange. That soul is incredibly powerful... but at the same time, it’s incredibly weak. I’ve never—"
"Thyra?"
