The young lady’s question silenced the two groups, and everyone automatically looked between her and the man.

The man turned in surprise. The moment his eyes landed on Cassie, his entire body froze.

"C-Cassie...?"

He took trembling steps forward, like a person under an illusion. No one stopped him as he walked towards her.

Cassie’s lips parted as though she wanted to say something, but no words came out. She only stared blankly, watching as one of the people she had longed to see approach her.

The man finally stopped before her, patting her cheeks as if to confirm if she were real.

"It’s really you..."

He immediately pulled her into a hug, with Cassie burying her face in his chest without a sound.

The others were left awkward, as for a moment, they were vigilant towards each other. Now, it felt wrong to be vigilant towards each other.

After a moment of silence, the middle-aged man suddenly burst into loud laughter.

"Hahahaha! What did I tell those idiots? There’s no way my daughter would die! She’s the most talented person in this world!"

His voice was filled with pride and overflowing with joy.

He grabbed Cassie’s shoulders and shook her vigorously, a wide grin on his face.

"Dad, you’re really..."

Unexpectedly, Cassie blushed, speaking in an embarrassed tone.

The others from her group were surprised, especially Leon. The only time he had ever seen her blush was when he had spanked her—

’Wait, she won’t suddenly report me to her dad, right?’

Although the weather was cool, he started sweating on the inside of his armor.

Mark, Cassie’s father, held her shoulders and said, "I’m so delighted to find you."

Then, he glanced at Leon and the others. "They’re your friends, right? You are really in the company of the strong."

"Hm. Dad, meet Leon—my boss," She said, gesturing at him. "Boss, meet my dad."

"Boss?" Mark was surprised, but quickly understood. In the apocalypse, every group had a leader, and it was obvious that Leon was the leader.

"Nice to meet you, Leon." He turned to him and stretched his hand.

Leon accepted the handshake and returned the greeting. "Nice to meet you too, Mark."

"You know me?" Mark was surprised.

Glancing at Cassie, Leon answered calmly, "Your daughter mentions you often. It’d be odd if I don’t remember."

Mark laughed aloud, once again pulling Cassie into a hug.

"As expected of my daughter. I can’t wait to take you to the others."

Cassie trembled slightly, raising her head to look at him. "The others... are they alive?"

Mark’s expression turned serious, and he said, "Your mother and younger brother are alive. But your grandmother didn’t make it. She’s... a very troublesome zombie right now."

Cassie’s eyes widened, and she felt a bit sad. Her grandmother had been her closest family member.

Mark was aware of this, so he was ready to assure her. "Don’t worry, though. As long as no one kills her, I will find a way to make her human again. After all, she is my mother."

Cassie’s expression cleared immediately, and she nodded with determination in her eyes.

"We will."

Leon cleared his throat, turning their attention back to him. "So, Mark. Is there a survivor camp here in Bayonne? Your group doesn’t seem to be a lone group."

Mark nodded, glancing at his teammates. "Yes, we’re from the Bayonne camp a few kilometers away. You can join come join us so we can talk properly."

Leon nodded, as that had been his plan anyway.

"Our group needs some fuel as well. I hope you don’t mind us sharing."

He smiled and waved at the buses parked outside. Mark didn’t refuse, as the filling station wasn’t his property anyway.

A few Evolvers came down from the buses and immediately began to fill the tanks.

’These guys aren’t weak too. At least Level 20. Not bad, their team is really strong.’

Mark noted, then turned to his own teammates.

"Ah, my apologies, boys. This is Cassie, my daughter who I’ve told you about," He grinned, then turned to Cassie. "Cassie, these are my squad members. That one with blonde hair is Eric. The lady with a permanent frown is Rose, and that guy smiling weirdly is Logan."

Cassie nodded, giving each of them a polite nod out of respect for her father.

’If only I could get half the respect she showed to those guys,’ Miguel complained inwardly.

"Hello, Cassie. Nice to meet you." Rose smiled, defying Mark’s introduction of her having a permanent frown.

Eric and Logan also waved at her, offering polite greetings.

Leon studied each of them, his gaze lingering on Rose.

It wasn’t that she was particularly beautiful, but her hairstyle reminded him of Thyra, and he unconsciously placed a hand on his chest.

"What’s the matter? In love?" Selene snickered, catching the look he had given Rose.

Leon tactically chose to ignore her words, pretending he hadn’t heard her.

Feeling ignored, Selene clicked her tongue and said quietly, "You’re no fun at all."

Reymond and Gwen observed the small interaction, each having different thoughts. Gwen chuckled, while Reymond’s eyes narrowed slightly.

"Commander, we’ve finished refueling all the buses!" Lucas reported, striking the breastplate of his armor.

Mark and his squad members were surprised by the title, and they looked at Leon again.

Ignoring their surprised gazes, Leon nodded and said, "Pack up now. We’re moving."

The engines of the seven buses roared to life, and Leon turned to Mark. "Lead the way."

The man nodded and invited Cassie to come sit with him in their vehicle. After receiving permission from Leon—something Mark noticed—Cassie went ahead to sit in his car.

The Hilux vehicle pulled out of the filling station, followed by seven modified buses that flanked it on both sides and at the back like a convoy.

In that manner, they drove towards the northeast, and after half an hour, they arrived at Bayonne’s survivor camp.

The buses were parked outside the city wall alongside other vehicles that were kept there, and everyone was required to come down.

"They don’t allow vehicles to move inside the camp in case someone tries to smuggle in a zombie," Mark explained to Leon.

The black-haired young man nodded, then waved at the buses. "Everyone, come down."

Mark turned to look, expecting ordinary civilians and the Evolvers who had refueled the tanks earlier at the filling station.

Unfortunately, his expectations were crushed.

From the seven buses came neat rows of powerful Evolvers all clad in identical black and gold armor. For a moment, Mark thought he was looking at the United States Army.

"These are...?"

Leon smiled. "Them? They’re Cassie’s friends too."
