Soon, Leon gave the warriors the order to fall back, and Selene took their place.

The zombies were still rushing forward, but they weren’t as aggressive as they had been earlier.

The young lady noticed it, and her lips curled slightly.

’Smart,’ She thought.

She stretched her right hand towards the approaching zombies, then whispered, "Blizzard."

A chill swept through the air, and even the people in the buses shivered slightly.

Behind her, Leon’s eyes narrowed, and his nose twitched. The cold was mildly annoying.

However, that was only the beginning of what Selene had done.

Sharpening her focus, she directed the bone-chilling cold towards the zombies.

Many of them were slowed down as their limbs stiffened. Soon, it became worse. Blisters appeared on their skin, and ice began to creep over them.

In just a few seconds, the zombies at the front were frozen solid and pushed to the ground by their mates from behind.

Crash!

The zombies shattered like fragile ceramic plates, and shards of ice spilled across the ground. That didn’t stop the others from moving forward. They stepped over their deceased comrades, crushing ice shards beneath their feet.

Selene’s expression didn’t change as she poured more mana into the attack. The cold intensified, accompanied by a chilling wind that seemed to be filled with blades.

The zombies became covered in marks, froze, then shattered as they were pushed to the ground. Soon, the street was filled with shattered pieces of zombie corpses and more falling to the same fate.

Selene maintained the new use of her Ice Manipulation ability for five minutes, killing several thousand zombies without moving from her position.

Eventually, she was forced to stop when her mana fell to less than a quarter of her reserves.

Leon walked up to her, brushing ice off his armor. Even though she had focused on the zombies, he was still caught in its area of effect.

"They’re not retreating yet," She said, her gaze on the charging horde.

Leon didn’t answer but merely raised a hand like he was about to use the Darkness Descent skill again.

Instantly, the zombies paused and turned around. With the same speed at which they charged forward, they fled.

Selene stared with a dumbfounded expression, then shook her head.

"Perhaps intelligence is sometimes a weakness."

Leon nodded. "It awakens fear and selfishness. The Brain Zombie King fears we will wipe out its horde, so it will let us pass."

The two watched the zombies scatter into the distance, then returned to their respective buses.

Leon quickly found his seat beside Gwen, and she noticed him even before he sat down.

"You’ve cleared the zombies?" She asked.

Although she was blind, that didn’t stop her from knowing the situation on the outside.

"Not really. But they won’t be bothering us for a while."

Gwen nodded and fell silent. After a while, she spoke again. "You reek of ice."

Leon chuckled. "Courtesy of the Ice Dragon Selene."

"Pfft!"

Unable to hold back, Gwen sputtered and laughed.

Leon smiled too, gazing outside through the window.

Just like he said, the zombies didn’t bother them until they left the zombie territory completely.

At this point, they were already close to the borders of Jersey City. However, they could no longer continue forward as the sky had darkened and rain seemed imminent.

Leon gave the order to stop at a large hotel, then quickly had everyone move inside the building.

There were a few stray zombies and mutated dogs in the hotel, but the warriors easily cleared them out. Just a few minutes after they settled in, the heavy rain began to fall.

"It’s been raining a lot lately, hasn’t it?" Reymond muttered to himself.

Beside him, Miguel shook his head. "No, not really. Just a few times. I mean... it only rained once in Bayonne, right?"

Reymond nodded. "I guess I was wrong. Somehow, I feel nostalgic. I miss the days when I just carried out my duties as the university’s Student Union President."

"Yeah, but lectures were boring as hell." The blonde guy added. "Man, I wonder if there’ll be education in the future. Everyone just wants to grow stronger for now."

Reymond closed his eyes, his expression calm. "There will be, naturally. But that depends on us—the first generation. If we can manage to secure the world again, clear out zombies, and control mutated beasts, our world can return to normal."

His words made Miguel think about it, and he realized it was true. "Wouldn’t that make us heroes of humanity?"

Reymond chuckled. "Heroes, huh? Perhaps. I hope so."

On another floor of the hotel, Leon held Gwen’s hand as he led her through the hallway while holding a hotel room key in his hand.

"Um... Leon?" She called out meekly. "Where are we going?"

He answered without looking at her. "To the room, obviously. We should rest while we can."

Gwen’s eyes widened behind the blindfold, and her grip on his hand tightened.

"O-oh, okay..."

Leon paused and turned to her. Was she seriously being shy right now? Two days ago, she had boldly approached him and demanded to stay with him.

Now, it seemed like she was suddenly self-conscious about the situation.

’Hm, so it was all just fake bravado? Good thing you learned to be wary of this Daddy.’

Of course, he didn’t express his thoughts, only keeping them within the mischievous field of his mind.

Soon, he found the room and opened the door. Guiding her inside first, he followed and closed the door behind them.

With care and gentleness, he led her to the bed and had her sit at the edge. He looked around the room, not bothering to familiarize himself with the layout.

The only thing he cared about was the bathroom. Once he found it, he immediately went in to take a relaxing bath. Unfortunately, he had no way to heat the water, so the bath wasn’t steamy at all.

’If Marie were here, she would have used her flames to heat up the water...’ He thought with a small smile as he stepped out of the bathroom.

Gwen was still sitting at the edge of the bed, not moving an inch. He approached her and casually asked,

"Do you want to take a bath?"
