World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 267: Reaching The CampLeon and Miguel left the house shortly after, returning to the buses in high spirits.
Leon was almost certain that his sister was in the Newark Government Camp. After all, based on what he could deduce, her team’s target would be that area.
Under his command and Reymond directing them, they journeyed toward the government camp established in the city.
The Newark Camp had been built in the southeastern region of the city, where industrial buildings were heavily located. The reason was obvious, as humanity couldn’t survive without these factories that produced their important needs.
The city itself had mostly been cleared out, and there were very few zombies loitering around the empty streets.
After about an hour, the buses finally reached the industrial region. From this distance, they could already see the camp.
Leon stared at the settlement in silence.
The outer wall stretched for miles, enclosing an area so vast that he couldn’t see its opposite end. Dozens of watchtowers rose above it, while enormous gates allowed streams of vehicles and people to pass through.
And behind those walls were thousands upon thousands of survivors. With one of them being Clara—hopefully.
From a distance, the Newark Camp looked less like a refuge and more like a civilization stubbornly refusing to die.
"The government is really impressive," Miguel muttered as he took in the sight.
The vehicles had been parked, and everyone had come down to take a look.
Gwen stood beside Leon, clutching his sleeve with her fingers. "Is it that impressive?"
She sounded grumpy, though. After all, she had worked hard to make the Eternal Night City look very good. Having Miguel compliment the government made her feel very displeased.
"O-of course, it’s nothing like you built," The blonde guy immediately corrected himself. "They’re still lacking. I expected more from people who call themselves the government. Heh!"
Leon shook his head with a light smile and said to Gwen, "I wish you could see it, though. Perhaps you can learn a thing or two."
Gwen’s lips curled slightly, and she replied, "I can see it, though."
Everyone froze, and Leon turned to her. "Really?"
He reached out to touch her blindfold, but Gwen caught his wrist and stopped him.
"You shouldn’t do that. It’s dangerous to look into my eyes right now," She explained calmly.
His brows furrowed, and he inquired, "Why’s that?"
"You don’t want to know."
Gwen stuck out her tongue cutely and released his hand.
"So you can see already?" Selene asked as she approached them.
Reymond stood behind her, his hopeful gaze fixed on Gwen.
Gwen nodded and turned to her friend. "I can really see now. It seems Fel’s healing really did some work and helped hasten my recovery."
She turned to Fel who was silently standing by a bus and smiled at her. "Thank you, Fel. I appreciate you."
The young healer nodded shyly, instinctively lowering her head in humbleness.
Gwen turned back to the others and noticed the relieved expressions on their faces.
"Come on, come on! We have a place to reach! Let’s go!"
Bliss quickly stopped them. "Will it be alright taking all your men over there? You know how intimidating they look."
"Ah? You don’t need to worry, though. I know someone among the high officials," Gwen shrugged, not seeing the problem.
Bliss massaged the space between her brows and explained. "They are the government. They might not oppose you, but they definitely wouldn’t let such a large force leave their hands."
"They’ll try to annex them?" Leon scowled.
"That’s highly likely. Especially if the mayor of the city is still alive," Selene said, buttressing the burly woman’s point.
"Ah... that’s true..." Gwen finally accepted with a dejected look on her face.
"Have them stay behind, then." Reymond shrugged. "We could go in by ourselves and return after a while."
Leon had no choice but to agree with him. Although barging into the camp with an army sounded cool, the consequences weren’t worth it. Besides, he wasn’t here to conquer. He was merely here to find his sister.
"Alright. They’ll be staying behind."
The arrangement was quick despite the suddenness. Leon made Miguel stay behind with the Titanbreaker Legion and handed him one of their mobile phones in the case they needed to contact each other.
The buses were left behind too, and they were forced to find a vehicle that still worked properly to transport them.
Bliss drove the car, speeding down the road while the others relaxed at the back. It didn’t take long before they arrived at one of the main entrances to the camp.
They were immediately stopped by the security guards who wore military uniform and carried guns in their hands.
"Your ID?"
One of them asked, leaning against the car as he looked inside.
Bliss blinked in confusion. "ID? We don’t have one."
The soldier raised an eyebrow and asked, "First time entering here?"
She nodded. "We’re from Bayonne."
"Bayonne?" He frowned, rubbing his chin. "How did you guys get here, then...?"
Bliss rolled her eyes. It was obvious that this person wasn’t a soldier in the past, and had only joined after the apocalypse.
’So unprofessional.’
Gwen stuck out her head from between the two front seats and looked at the soldier.
"Hello, there." She smiled at him. "Can you help us contact any of your higher-ups? Just tell them ’his granddaughter is here’."
The young man frowned. "Why would I do that? You guys are very suspicious. I can’t allow you entry for now. Please come down from the vehicle and follow me for a quick questioning."
"Ugh," Gwen grunted, displeased.
Beside her, Reymond spoke reassuringly. "I already helped you message your cousin. He should come meet us in a few minutes."
"Yeah, but I guess it won’t hurt to follow this guy," Gwen shrugged and slid open the door of the Sienna.
She got down from the car, stretching her arms as she looked at the bright sky. "I’m so excited!"
Reymond, Selene, Leon, Fel, and Bliss followed, all alighting from the car. They obediently followed the rookie soldier into a building attached to the outer wall where an older soldier appeared to be waiting for them.
Upon seeing the man, Bliss gasped. "Uncle?"
