World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 271: Her Feelings"I’m alright," Fel said and smiled at him. "Thank you."
Leon hummed in acknowledgement, then turned to Damien. "Is everyone in the camp like that?"
The young man immediately shook his head, his hair fluttering behind him. "No, no. It’s just those three... and a few others. But not everyone."
Quickly deciding to change the topic, Damien clapped and called the attention of the others.
"Since everyone is here, let’s all celebrate our reunion!" He grinned. "Come with me. I have something special."
He led them to a luxurious dining hall with a long table packed with different kinds of fruits, snacks, and meals including roasted, grilled, fried, and boiled mutated meat from mutated beasts.
Even Leon was stumped. "Isn’t this a bit too much?"
Damien shrugged. "Gramps prepared everything. Every meat on this table is from a Tier Two beast, so you can ima—wait."
He turned around to face them. "You’re all Tier One, right? No one below Tier One can survive consuming too much of this."
Gwen reassured him as she took a seat. "You don’t need to worry. We’re all Tier One."
Damien seemed relieved and moved to take a seat beside her. The others took their seats too, and they all began to eat modestly.
Bliss was the most reserved, taking only a small portion of the rice and other delicacies for herself.
"Hm, I can’t get enough of this!" Damien nodded in approval, wiping the corner of his lips with a napkin.
"Tell me, how does this camp work? The higher-ups, I mean," Leon suddenly asked, his gaze fixed on the meal before him.
Damien paused eating and answered without thinking much about it.
"The camp is basically run by a council consisting of ten people. Five were politicians before the apocalypse, while the other five are really strong individuals."
Glancing at Gwen, he paused for a moment, then continued. "The final decision-maker in the council is the mayor, and he has the strongest guards. Two Tier Two Evolvers personally sent by the Vice President."
"The Vice President?" Reymond asked. "Wait. How are they managing to send people all over the country? You weren’t here until recently, right?"
Damien nodded. "About that, it’s the work of the new Air Force consisting of Evolvers specially trained to deal with mutated beasts while airborne. It’s a small force currently, since their mission is very risky. Still, they’re really impressive."
"So you were brought here by them?" Gwen turned to him.
Damien smiled and answered, "Yes. It wasn’t a smooth ride, but we made it safely."
Leon quietly resumed eating without contributing to the conversation any longer. His mind was preoccupied with thoughts of meeting his sister, and Thyra as well.
Slowly, the day blurred into night after a series of events that mostly involved sharing their experiences since the apocalypse began.
Leon stood alone in the spacious room that had been given to him, lost in thoughts.
Just then, a knock on his door brought him back to reality, and he went to open it.
Gwen stepped inside with a smile, her eyes still hidden behind the blindfold.
"Sorry, I’m a bit late. Damien is just like a curious cat."
Leon shook his head. "You’re not late, though. Let’s make this quick so I don’t keep infringing on your time."
Gwen approached him and placed her hands on his bare chest, activating her main ability. Ghostly green flames ignited and coated her hands, and Leon immediately felt the soothing feeling from it.
He relaxed and closed his eyes, letting her do her work in silence.
Some time later, she pulled her hand away from him and said, "I think the soul has been fully healed. I’m not sure, though."
Leon’s eyes snapped open, and he looked at her in surprise. "Really?"
"Mn." Gwen nodded with a smile and stood up. "I should get going now before Damien gets the wrong idea."
Leon put on his clothes, escorted her to the door, and said, "Thank you, Gwen. I really appreciate this."
She turned back to him and smiled. "Don’t thank me yet. I still need to find a way to heal your own soul."
Leon’s lips parted to say something, but she had already run away.
"This woman..."
He sighed and closed the door. Glancing around the room, he saw no one. Still calm, he stood alone and said in a serious voice, "Come out."
There was no response for almost a minute, but he remained patient.
"You sound so unusually serious for someone who’s eager to see me," Thyra said as she hugged him from behind.
Leon stiffened briefly before his body relaxed. "Are you fully healed now?"
"Mn, at least my soul is," She responded, rubbing her face against his back. "I really missed doing this."
Leon smiled faintly. "Although I’m surprised to admit it, it felt extremely weird not having you around."
The seductive demon straightened, resting her chin on his shoulder. "Why are you surprised to admit it? Didn’t you say you love me?"
Chuckling, Leon closed his eyes and responded. "That doesn’t erase the fact that you’re one troublesome person. I wonder why I even missed you."
"Do you, really?" Thyra’s tone became serious. "Leon... why did you say that? Why did you say you love... me?"
This had been the main question on her mind, and she needed answers. This wasn’t the first time she was dealing with confessions. There were countless demons from the Demon Constellation and even others from the other constellations who had confessed their love to her. Most of them were driven by lust, admiration for her, or the desire to monopolize her being. She had always reacted with indifference.
However, this one was different. It was from a man she loved. As for why she loved him...
It wasn’t because he was particularly special. She had been attached to several Evolvers over the past ten years, spending time with them before they died and she was transferred to someone else.
However, something about Leon was different. He didn’t react the way the others did when they saw her. He didn’t show fear or lust. Instead, he only showed confusion and wariness.
That surprised her, as she felt amused by his innocence. Didn’t he know her true nature—a cold-blooded killer of the Demon Constellation who was revered by many?
Of course, he wasn’t aware. Still, he was strangely naive. Other than an absurd suspicion that she was after his v-card, he wasn’t that wary of her.
As time passed, the suspicion lessened, and he grew comfortable around her. Thyra didn’t realize it, but she grew comfortable around him too.
She was most especially amused by his reactions to her teasings—like a cat entertained by the reactions of a rat when poked.
She didn’t know when it happened. She only realized it when she went ahead to catch him before he fell and took him out of the blast zone of his own skill.
At that point, she had asked herself why she had done it. Why was she rescuing him despite knowing that her soul might be lost to it?
The answer had been surprisingly simple.
’I don’t want to move on to another life with someone else. I don’t want to lose him.’
