Chapter 279: A Fake [20 GT Bonus Chapter]

Leon stiffened, and the room fell silent. Habeeb turned to him with narrowed eyes, his lips curling into a frown.

Leon’s expression appeared too calm. He exhaled and looked at the bespectacled man.

"Yes, I do. Why?"

The man nodded as if confirming something. "She told me about you. You’re Leonel Wayne, right? Her brother."

Barely able to control himself, Leon rested his elbows on the table and leaned forward.

"Where is she?"

His voice had changed completely, sounding like a soft whisper, yet carrying a dangerous undertone.

The bespectacled man stiffened, suddenly covered in cold sweat. He shifted in his seat and answered stiffly.

"Ah... she... uh... she was with us until a while—"

"Let’s not get worked up, hm?" Habeeb suddenly cut in with a smile on his face.

The bespectacled man immediately shut up and lowered his head, ashamed. He almost couldn’t believe that he had lost composure because of someone younger than him.

Habeeb turned to Leon, who was also staring at him.

"You’re Clara Wayne’s brother, right? We can talk about this after the meeti—"

"No," Leon cut him off coldly. "Where is my sister?"

Beside him, Fel tensed slightly and quietly took out a coin from her pocket, pressing it in her palm.

Beside Habeeb, the Tier Two female Evolver frowned. "Kid, know your place. This is the mayor of the entire—"

"Shut it, hag," Leon snapped at her. "Who asked you to speak?"

Hunter’s Gaze was activated, and the woman felt a flicker of fear in her heart. She snorted and turned away, not bothering to say anything.

Habeeb was a little surprised by the development, but he wasn’t worried.

He looked at Leon, then smiled. "Since you’re so curious, I’ll let you know. Your sister was a strong Evolver among our people. But she was too... troublesome and annoying. So I had her escorted out of the camp. She apparently didn’t mind, though. I sent her on a great mission. I doubt she’s still alive, though."

Crack!

Everyone was startled by the sound, and they all looked at Leon’s hands. They had been frozen to the table, and he had just cracked the ice covering the table when he moved.

His sharp gaze turned to Selene, and he saw her shake her head gently. A portion of him cooled down slightly, and he pulled his hands away from the table.

Thyra placed a hand on his shoulder, gently squeezing it. Leon sighed and leaned back into his chair, closing his eyes.

Habeeb chuckled at the sight, turning his gaze to Selene. "Even a lion’s cub can control wild dogs, huh? Interesting."

None of them reacted, completely ignoring his words.

Not wanting any complications, Damien stood up and turned to the man. "Mr. Ishmael, we’ll take our leave now. Thank you for the hospitality."

Habeeb smiled and said nothing. Taking that as a sign of agreement, Damien immediately led everyone out of the meeting hall.

The door closed behind them, and the Tier Two woman finally turned to Habeeb.

"Why didn’t you stop them? I thought you had something in mind when you called them here."

Habeeb smiled and ignored her question. Instead, he asked, "Weren’t you scared?"

The woman stiffened, her lips parting to utter silent words. Habeeb shook his head in disappointment and turned away from her.

"They’re interesting."

...

Meanwhile, outside the building, Leon looked towards the sky and asked no one in particular.

"Could it be a lie?"

Thyra stood beside him and answered. "Obviously not the whole story."

Unaware that he was talking to someone else, Gwen shook her head. "They’re probably not lying. They know her. But I won’t take everything he says as truth."

Thyra smiled proudly. "See? This little sister thinks just like I do!"

Leon nodded to both ladies, then sighed. "I’ll wait a few more days. If Damien’s search doesn’t yield results, we’re leaving."

The long-haired young man pressed his lips together and exhaled.

"I’ll do my best. I hope you’ll at least find clues of her whereabouts."

With that, they all returned to Damien’s mansion and stayed there. The mood was grim and filled with tension, especially since everyone could sense that Leon was restraining himself from attacking the members of the council.

As for why he was doing that, nobody knew.

Days passed, and before they knew it, it was already the fifth day since their arrival. There was still no news about Leon’s sister or Selene’s grandmother.

Damien had really done his best, combing through about 90% of the camp population in search of the two. The results were dissatisfying.

Clara couldn’t be found, though several people claimed to know her. After asking them about her, Leon only gained one important information.

She was no longer in the camp, having left voluntarily on a dangerous mission. Ever since then, no one had heard of her.

’So that man was purposefully trying to bait me to rage, huh?’

Leon massaged his temples and sighed as he headed downstairs.

’But why would she voluntarily take on that mission?’

Today was the day they would be leaving. After all, Damien’s ride had finally arrived.

When he got to the ground floor, he was a little surprised. Selene, Reymond, Bliss, and Fel stood together, all frowning faintly.

Opposite them stood Damien and Gwen.

The brown-haired lady smiled apologetically and said to them, "I’m sorry, guys. But this is where we have to separate."

Leon’s eyes narrowed as he looked at her. Had he heard her correctly? Gwen, leaving?

He stopped beside Reymond and turned to her. "You’re going with him?"

She turned to him and smiled, "I’m sorry, Leon. But there’s something important I must discuss with my grandfather. I hope you understand."

Leon’s frown deepened, but he couldn’t understand what was wrong. Why didn’t she mention it earlier? Even if she had claimed she wanted to go see her grandfather, he wouldn’t have complained or held her back. After all, she owed him nothing.

So why hide it till now? It made no sense.

Behind him, Thyra clicked her tongue and muttered, "What a fake."

Leon’s eyes widened, and as he opened his mouth to speak, Selene beat him to it.

"You’re not Gwen."
