World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 278: A Familiar NameLeon looked around them. The camp felt alive and was undeniably better than the city he had recently established.
He closed his eyes and smiled. "I won’t ask you to trust me or join me. That would be too presumptuous. Instead, all I will tell you is to wait and watch."
He turned to her, opening his eyes. "With your own eyes, you will judge whether I can."
Bliss stared at him deeply, a little shaken by the young man’s confidence. After a while, she slowly exhaled.
"I understand."
They didn’t linger much longer and returned to Damien’s mansion. Coincidentally, Damien was also just returning from somewhere with a serious expression.
"Mn?"
Seeing Leon and Bliss, the young man paused, then forced a smile.
"Ah... come in. I have something to tell you guys."
The three of them entered, and soon enough, everyone was gathered together.
"Damien, is something wrong?" Gwen asked as she looked at her cousin.
He stared at her blindfold for a while, then sighed. "There’s nothing wrong, actually. It’s just that something I’ve been trying to prevent eventually happened."
Selene glanced at him and asked, "The council wants to meet us?"
"Yeah. Ahmed really couldn’t keep mute after seeing you guys," Damien answered with a wry smile.
"Why are you disturbed, though? Do you think something terrible will happen?" Reymond turned to him, arms folded with seriousness.
"No, it’s not actually you guys," He shook his head. "In this camp, I’ve been sort of... isolated. That’s why I want to leave as soon as I can. I just don’t want them to treat you guys badly because of me."
"Oh..." Gwen’s expression eased, and she patted his back. "If it’s that, you don’t need to worry. I doubt any one of them would want to bring us trouble."
"I hope so."
Thyra stood beside Leon, unseen by the others. She noticed the sharp glint in Leon and Selene’s eyes and couldn’t help but think, ’These troublemakers... they’re anticipating conflict?’
Her lips curved, but she kept her thoughts to herself.
Soon, they all left the mansion and headed to the Great Hall at the center of the camp. The building was grand and imposing, a stark contrast to the other buildings around it.
They all noted the increased security and surveillance in the area.
’Looks like they are really serious, huh.’
With Damien leading them, they easily passed through several checkpoints and finally entered the building.
"They should have started their meeting by now so once we enter, all attention will be on us. Let’s... be calm," Damien said before placing a hand on the scanner by the door.
The machine beeped, and the double doors slid open with a sharp hiss.
The hall was just as large and imposing as the building itself. A large, open-centered conference table stood in the room, surrounded by several chairs, some of which were already occupied.
The moment they stepped inside, all eyes turned to them. The stares felt heavy, just like the oppressive weight in the air.
Bliss’s eyes narrowed. ’Six Tier Two?!’
She almost couldn’t believe her eyes.
Leon, Selene, Reymond, and Damien were fine despite being only Tier One. However, Gwen and Fel paled slightly. The pressure was just too much.
Leon quietly placed his hands on their shoulders, helping to stabilize them. Then, his eyes locked with the man sitting at the head of the table.
It was a middle-aged man whose hair was already turning white. However, nothing else about him seemed old. He was obviously Tier Two, which meant he wasn’t weak in the slightest.
He smiled at the new arrivals and said, "You’re here. Please, take your seats."
Along with his voice, the weight disappeared, and the two young women finally sighed in relief.
Damien took a seat first, with Gwen sitting next to him, followed by Selene, Reymond, Leon, Fel, then Bliss.
The middle-aged man calmly introduced himself. "I’m Habeeb Ishmael, the last mayor of Newark City and the current leader of this camp. It’s my pleasure to meet you all."
They all nodded at him, though only a few of them actually showed respect.
The man also ignored the others and turned to Damien, Gwen, Selene, and Reymond.
"I didn’t think I’d see so many prodigies of the younger generation sitting together like this. Ah... I wish your parents were here to see this."
Selene frowned slightly before becoming expressionless again.
Damien smiled stiffly and said, "Thank you for the praise, Mr. Ishmael. So... can we go now?"
The man stared at Damien with wide eyes, then laughed heartily. After a while, his laughter died down and he shook his head.
"Not yet, not yet. What’s the hurry? I’m sure several people here have some things to discuss with you guys."
As his voice fell, the woman sitting to his left, another Tier Two Evolver, fixed her sharp gaze on Bliss.
"You’re Tier Two? That’s very fast."
The woman seemed to be in her early thirties, making her slightly older than Bliss. However, the arrogance radiating from her was unmistakable.
Seeing someone younger than her with equal power must have surprised her.
Habeeb laughed to her words. "It’s the era of the Star Stream now. Even a little brat can gain unimaginable power."
Bliss frowned at his words but held her tongue.
The middle-aged man ignored her and focused on Gwen. "Oh? General Thompson’s granddaughter? Indeed, it is really you."
His smile lessened slightly, but was still there.
Gwen smiled back, polite and graceful. "I’m surprised you recognize me, sir. It’s a pleasure to meet you."
Habeeb nodded slowly, then looked at Selene. This time, his smile totally disappeared. He didn’t say a word for a long while, only shaking his head with a sigh.
"Damien... you really brought the lion’s cub over to us."
Selene’s sharp gaze turned to him, but he remained unfazed.
A smile slowly returned to his lips, and he said to her, "I hope you enjoy your stay here, young White."
Finally, someone other than him spoke. It was a frail-looking young man wearing a large pair of glasses.
He looked at Leon deeply, then asked, "Do you know anyone named Clara?"
