World Evolution Apocalypse: I Possess The Extraction Ability
Chapter 292: Hateful PeopleBefore he reached the entrance of the cave, the serpent was finally dragged away, and he could see the creature that had done that.
To his surprise, it was actually a Vaelari, and a pretty one at that. She wore primitive clothing, a sackcloth top that only covered her breasts and a short skirt that barely reached her thighs. Even though she looked crude and weird, she was still beautiful.
’Yeah, I forgot. These guys are all beautiful.’
The blue-skinned woman stared at him cautiously, then looked behind him. She stared at Selene for a while, then turned back to Leon.
He smiled stiffly, thinking she had misunderstood the situation.
"Uhm... it’s not what you’re thinking. I didn’t kidna—"
He hadn’t even finished speaking when she bolted.
Confused, he stood rooted to the spot, then shrugged.
"As long as she doesn’t cause trouble."
He dragged the corpse back to the entrance and blocked it. Still exhausted, he returned to Selene’s side and sat down.
"Woman... you really picked the wrong time to evolve. You definitely have to pay me back when you wake up."
Leaning against the wall, he closed his eyes and relaxed. He had barely felt sleep tugging at his mind when he heard voices outside, and the snake was dragged away again.
Angered, he shot a glare at the entrance. "Get the fuck away! Damn it!"
Standing there were four other male Vaelari, along with that woman from earlier. Seeing him, their expressions turned hostile.
One of them shouted. "They’re aliens! Kill them!"
Leon was stumped for a split second. Kill them?
He reacted swiftly, picking up Selene from the ground. The Vaelari had all rushed inside, with one of them carrying a deadly fireball between his hands.
"Hey! I thought you guys were intelligent. We can talk this out, you know?"
Leon’s voice had barely dropped when the fireball reached him and the woman in his arms.
Boom!
The fireball struck the wall and exploded, engulfing the place in flames. The man who threw the attack looked around and saw no signs of Leon and Selene.
"A spatial ability. They can’t be that far away."
Having escaped through the shadow of a tree, Leon cursed under his breath. He could still feel the heat of the fireball on his face.
For a moment, he thought his eyebrows had been burntoff. Clicking his tongue, he glanced at the woman in his arms and sighed in relief.
’At least, she’s fine. I don’t think she should be disturbed at all during her evolution, though. It might affect it.’
Grunting, he straightened and looked around. The cave was far behind him, so he should be fine for now. As long as he didn’t encounter any parasite, of course.
Suddenly, his ears twitched, and he heard the sound of footsteps rushing towards him. Soon, he heard voices too.
"Over here!"
"Kill them!"
A flicker of anger passed through his eyes. His patience was already wearing thin, and these people were annoying him.
’If you chase me one more time, I swear I’ll...’
Leaving the threat unspoken, he stepped through the shadows again with Selene. Using that move two times consecutively was incredibly draining, but he had no choice.
His teleportation ability could only take him and not another living being. There was no way he was leaving Selene behind to get killed by some tribal aliens.
Taking a deep breath, he shook his head and looked at the clear pond ahead of them. He was tempted to take a bath, but quickly dismissed the idea. What if the water was infested with parasites?
He might be acting paranoid, but being cautious wasn’t bad. Especially when it involved something as insidious as those single-celled organisms.
’Are there mutated viruses too?’
As he asked himself that, his expression turned cold. He slowly turned around, catching sight of those four men still chasing him. He didn’t bother running this time, as his mana was too low to use Shadow Teleportation.
Once they also saw him, their eyes lit up.
"They’re there! Kill them quickly!"
"Yes! Die!!!"
A fireball came flying at him, but Leon easily dodged even while supporting Selene.
He glared at his pursuers and asked, "Why are you hell-bent on killing?"
They paused and exchanged glances. Then, one of them grinned and answered.
"Anything that’s not one of us has to die. That’s the rule."
"I see..." Leon slowly nodded. "... then die."
Shadow spears suddenly shot up from the ground, piercing their bodies and skewering them.
[You have slain a Level 26 Tier One Vaelari...]
[You have slain a Level 19 Vaelari...]
[You have slain...]
He ignored the messages and looked behind a tree. The woman from earlier was hiding behind it, terrified.
He felt the greatest resentment towards her. After all, she had been the one to go call the men to come attack him.
Still, his conscience didn’t let him kill her. After all, she never personally attacked him.
’You better learn from this.’
Pretending he didn’t notice her, he turned around and left the area. The forest seemed to be on a mountain range, as there were several rocky slopes and caves in the area.
He avoided every living creature he sensed and eventually settled for a relatively well-hidden cave. This one was smaller, but hadn’t been inhabited in a while.
Clearing out the vines and weeds, he made a makeshift bed for Selene with them and laid her upon the bed.
He sincerely hoped that their rough journey wasn’t going to affect her evolution.
Resting beside her, he took out a plate of mutated chicken meat and began to eat. He didn’t know why, but after a few hours, his stomach began to ache badly.
"Damnit. Does my storage ring not preserve quality? Why am I having a stomachache?"
Annoyed, he stood up and looked around. He definitely couldn’t take a dump right here in the cave. Besides, Selene was also present.
’What a hassle.’
Blocking the entrance of the cave with large rocks, he ventured into the distance to find a place to relieve himself. It was incredibly risky, considering that parasitized creatures lurked everywhere.
Thankfully, he wasn’t disturbed during the process. After emptying his bowels, he felt truly relieved. As he made his way back to the cave, a sudden unease gripped his heart.
’Divine Premonition... it can’t be...?’
He hastened his speed, reaching the cave in a few seconds. The sight before him made his blood boil, and his vision turned red.
