Wrong Flirt, Right Trouble: His Uncle Pulls Me Close
Chapter 427: Confession: I’m PregnantIvy Sherwood reached out and switched on the bedside lamp, and the room was instantly filled with light.
Quentin Blackwood’s face was just inches away. Ivy Sherwood shoved him back immediately.
"Breaking into someone’s home is a crime. Are you going to leave on your own, or should I call the police?" Ivy’s face was grim, her anger obvious.
She didn’t want to see Quentin Blackwood, at least not right now. And she definitely wasn’t willing to admit they still had any sort of engagement.
’It’d be best if this jerk never showed his face in front of me again for the rest of his life.’
Quentin Blackwood lowered his head. He didn’t answer Ivy’s question, instead looking down at her feet.
"The floor is cold. You should put on some slippers first."
Ivy had gotten out of bed in such a hurry that she hadn’t had time to put on her slippers. It was winter, and her room wasn’t carpeted, so she was standing barefoot on the cold floor.
"What does it have to do with you whether I wear slippers or not?"
Quentin Blackwood bent down, picked up the slippers beside her, and placed them in front of her feet. "Put them on."
"Are you crazy? Didn’t you hear what I said? Get the hell out of my house now!"
She never imagined that even after their falling out, Quentin Blackwood would still come to her home. And in the middle of the night, no less, sneaking in like a ghost.
"I didn’t mean any harm. I just wanted to see you. In the future, if you find a stranger in your house in the middle of the night and you’re alone, don’t make a sound, and definitely don’t chase after them. If it’s a criminal, they might attack you on the spot. It’s very dangerous."
"Cut the phony act. I think you’re more dangerous than any criminal. I never realized the great President Blackwood could be so shameless, pestering me again and again after everything is over."
Quentin Blackwood, however, didn’t seem to mind Ivy’s scolding. He knew that, deep down, she still had feelings for him.
Not only was Quentin not angry, but he actually started to smile. The corners of his lips lifted, and he looked to be in a very good mood.
’Ivy thought Quentin Blackwood had well and truly lost his mind. And it was a serious case.’
"But since you’re here, there’s something I need to tell you. I’ve already investigated it. My mother had nothing to do with your mother’s death. If you’re looking for revenge, you’ve got the wrong person."
She’d been worrying about how she would find a chance to tell him this.
"It doesn’t matter anymore," Quentin Blackwood said. Whether Ivy’s mother was the one who caused his mother’s death was no longer important to him. All he wanted was Ivy, regardless of who she was or what her background was.
"It is very important!" Ivy’s eyes were fixed on Quentin Blackwood. "My mother didn’t do it. Even though she’s no longer in this world, no one is going to smear her name. She was always a kind and wonderful person, nothing like what you said."
"Alright, I believe you." Ivy looked at him suspiciously. ’He believes me just like that?’
But for some reason, she didn’t believe him. His "I believe you" sounded completely half-hearted.
"I’ve said what I needed to say. You can go now." Ivy pointed toward the front door.
"Why don’t you go to sleep first? I’ll leave after you’ve fallen asleep."
Ivy’s eyes widened in astonishment as she stared at Quentin Blackwood. ’What is this man talking about? How could I possibly fall asleep with him here?’
"This is my house, and I’m not negotiating with you. If you don’t leave right now, I’m really calling the police!"
"I’m going, I’m going. Are you feeling okay? No discomfort anywhere?" Quentin’s gaze was still filled with concern.
How dare he even bring up that night! Ivy grabbed a pillow and hurled it at him. "Get out!"
Ivy managed to drive Quentin Blackwood out and shut the door. ’I’ll change the passcode tomorrow,’ she thought.
’On second thought, I should just change the lock. Otherwise, it won’t be safe at all.’
But Quentin’s visit did remind her of something. Despite how intense that night had been, she hadn’t felt any discomfort in her stomach. The baby seemed to have been very well-behaved these past couple of days.
And in two days, it would be time for her prenatal checkup.
With Quentin Blackwood in Lustre, she didn’t dare go for the checkup here. He was too powerful. If he found out, Ivy wasn’t sure if he would let her keep the baby.
Although the baby was hers and the decision to keep it was hers to make, a man like Quentin Blackwood would never allow a woman to bear his child under these circumstances.
Besides, even her brothers didn’t know about this. So, Ivy decided she had to tell her family first.
’I might get an earful, but they’ll find out eventually anyway.’
It was too late now, so Ivy just sent a message to Xavier Mercer: "Brother, will you all be around tomorrow? There’s something I want to tell you."
Ivy barely slept for the rest of the night, afraid that Quentin might come back. But as dawn approached, she finally succumbed to exhaustion and fell into a deep sleep.
When she woke up and picked up her phone, she saw a message from Xavier Mercer: "We are. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow morning."
And another one: "I’m at your door." The message had been sent half an hour ago.
Ivy quickly sat up and went to get the door. As soon as she opened it, she saw Xavier Mercer standing outside.
"I’m so sorry, Brother! I overslept and didn’t see your message. Why didn’t you call me? My ringer was on." Ivy felt terrible, thinking that Xavier had been waiting outside for half an hour.
"It’s fine. I just got here myself."
Ivy knew her big brother had already been there for half an hour.
Ivy invited her brother in. Xavier had even brought breakfast, so they ate together.
"Big Brother, I heard you have a fiancée?" Ivy asked, eager for gossip as she ate.
"Mhm." Xavier was, as usual, a man of few words.
"Who’s my future sister-in-law? When are you getting married?" Ivy’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"You haven’t met her. It was arranged by Grandpa. She’s a girl from a prominent family."
"So, do you like her?" Ivy asked.
Xavier didn’t answer her question. He just lightly tapped her on the head. "Finish your breakfast. Didn’t you say you had something to tell us?"
Ivy understood. ’So there are no feelings involved. Is it a business alliance?’
’But the Mercer Family is so huge. They own so many industries abroad. Does a family like that still need a marriage for business purposes?’
Ivy didn’t get it, but she didn’t press the issue.
After breakfast, Ivy went with her big brother back to the mountain resort. It seemed their maternal grandfather had taken a liking to the place and was still enjoying his time there.
When Ivy and Xavier arrived, the Mercer Brothers and their grandfather were all waiting. Miles Mercer looked particularly expectant. "Little sis, Big Brother said you have something to tell us. What is it?"
Ivy had prepared herself to tell them she was pregnant, but now that she was actually facing the Mercers, she suddenly didn’t know how to begin.
"I..." Ivy started.
Everyone stared at her, but she didn’t know what to say.
"If I tell you, you can’t get worked up, and you can’t hit me. At most, you can just yell at me a little. Okay?"
"Ivy, what is it? You’re making me nervous," said Miles Mercer, who was usually the most carefree of them all. "What happened? Did you beat someone half to death? Are you ten billion in debt? None of that is a big deal. Just say it. Your brother will take care of it for you."
Ivy was speechless. "...Brother, can’t you wish something good for me for a change?"
"Then just spit it out! The suspense is killing me." Miles was an impatient person.
Ivy took a deep breath and decided to just blurt it out. "I’m pregnant."
"Huh?" The Mercers were completely dumbfounded.
