’17.1 percent?’

The red numbers were blinking violently right in front of my eyes.

’At this rate, it will hit the threshold very soon.’

My breath caught in my throat. I felt completely paralyzed. The desperation of my party was right in front of me. Jisu was crying out as she tried to punch a shadow beast away from Grog. Hana was sobbing, her staff sparkless. Carmilla was about to be torn apart by three wolves at once.

The narrow corridor was a literal death trap.

Grrrr!

Another wave of shadow wolves rushed out from the darkness of the stairs. They didn’t care about the bodies of their dead allies. They just wanted to tear us to pieces.

"Get away from her!" Jisu screamed.

She threw a heavy punch with her red gauntlet, smashing a wolf into pieces. But another beast jumped from the wall, its sharp claws tearing a deep line across her thigh. Jisu gasped in pain, stumbling backward onto the stone floor. She was running dangerously low on mana, and her movements were becoming sluggish.

Beside her, Grog was leaning heavily against a cracked pillar. He couldn’t even lift his broadsword anymore. His right arm hung loosely at his side, completely broken, and a pool of blood was forming around his boots.

"Damn it... standard low-rank zone, my ass," Grog muttered, his vision clearly blurring as he tried to stay awake.

Hana was completely useless right now. She sat on her knees, her hands covering her ears as she sobbed loudly. Her magical barrier had drained her entirely, and without her mana, she was just a normal human girl caught in a war zone.

"Seok! Left side!" I shouted, my voice straining under my paper bag mask.

Seok didn’t reply. His face was entirely hidden behind his cartoonish mask, but his breath was coming in short, ragged gasps.

He thrust his blue spear forward, piercing two wolves at once, but three more immediately took their place. The narrow hallway restricted his movements too much. He couldn’t swing his spear to clear the area without risking hitting the Queen or the crying royal children behind him.

Clang!

Carmilla swung her dark blade with pure physical desperation. She managed to cut the throat of one beast, but her knees were buckling. A massive shadow wolf slammed its heavy body straight into her chest, sending her flying across the floor.

"Carmilla!" the Queen shrieked, desperately pulling the younger children into the tightest corner of the staircase.

Carmilla fell flat on her back, her breath completely knocked out of her. She stared up with wide, terrified eyes as the wolf raised its massive paw to crush her chest.

"Stand back!" Black roared.

He moved his hands wildly, forcing the gravity around Carmilla to twist. The wolf was instantly heavy-pressed into the ground beside her, but the effort made Black spit out a bit of blood.

I think, controlling gravity in this tightly enclosed space, while trying not to crush his own teammates, was destroying his internal organs.

It was a losing battle. Everyone was completely exhausted, injured, or out of mana.

I looked down at Vera. Her small hand was still holding onto my sleeve, but I could feel her entire body tensing up. Her sightless eyes shifted toward the oncoming horde of monsters. Faint, cold purple strings of mana began to flicker around her fingertips.

She was going to join the fight.

’No, if Vera steps in, the system might trigger the erasure instantly!’ my mind screamed in pure panic.

But looking at the scene, we didn’t have a choice. If she didn’t fight, we would get eaten. If she did fight, the timeline would collapse. It was a perfect typa trap.

Vera took a step forward. But, before she could do anything a massive, earth shattering termor rumbled through the entire palace.

CRACK! BOOM!

It wasn’t from the dragons outside. The combination of Black’s massive gravity fields and the constant explosions had completely destroyed the ground beneath us.

Creak...

The stone floor beneath my feet didn’t just crack—it entirely caved inward.

"Woo—!" Vera gasped as the ground suddenly vanished beneath us.

"Vera!" I yelled, reaching out and wrapping my arms tightly around her waist as we both plunged into the sudden, dark abyss.

The world turned upside down. The screams of my party, the growls of the shadow wolves, and the dim blue light of Seok’s spear instantly faded into nothingness. We were falling. It felt like we were dropping into a completely bottomless black pit. The wind rushed past my ears, tearing my paper bag mask right off my face.

I held Vera as close as I physically could, twisting my body in mid-air so I would take the brunt of the impact if we hit the bottom.

"No! Don’t!" Vera screamed but it was too late.

BANG!

My back slammed violently against something hard and solid. A sharp, explosive pain shot through my spine, and the sheer force made my brain rattle inside my skull. The air exploded out of my lungs, and the world instantly went pitch black.

I lost consciousness.

....

"Woo Jin,"

A voice drifted through the dark, pulling me away from the pain.

Slowly, the darkness began to melt away. I wasn’t in a crumbling palace anymore. I was standing in an endless, quiet field filled with thousands of soft white flowers.

The sky above was a beautiful, deep blue, completely untouched by smoke or war. A gentle breeze rolled across the grass, carrying the sweet scent of vanilla and fresh rain.

And standing right there, just a few steps away, was Viora.

Thump!

Thump!

My chest thudded.

She wore a simple, flowing white sundress that billowed softly around her ankles. But the thing that made my breath completely catch in my throat was her face.

Without the black fabric hiding her features, she looked breathtaking. Her pale skin caught the warm sunlight, and her hair flowed like silk.

She turned her head toward me, and for the first time since I had met her, her dull crimson eyes weren’t blank or empty. They were clear, bright, and focused entirely on me.

She could see me?

"Viora?" I whispered.

She didn’t answer right away. She just smiled at me that made the entire world feel completely quiet. She walked toward me, her bare feet stepping lightly over the white petals, until she was standing close enough for me to feel the gentle warmth radiating from her body.

"You always look so tired, Woo Jin," she murmured. "You are always running, always calculating, always trying to carry the weight of the future by yourself."

She reached up with her small, delicate hands, and when her palms gently cupped my cheeks, a jolt of pure warmth rushed through my skin. Her fingers were so soft, tracing my cheekbones with a deep, silent tenderness that made my knees feel weak.

"You don’t have to carry it right now," she whispered. "There is no system here. There are no timers. No variables. There is just you. And me."

I stared down into her clear eyes. The cold iron taste of blood and the terror of the apocalypse completely vanished from my mind. In this moment, under her gentle gaze, I didn’t care if this field was an illusion. I didn’t care if the world outside was burning to ash.

I reached up and covered her hands with my own hands.

"Viora..." I breathed. "I don’t want to lose you. I’ve been so afraid of what happens at the end of all this."

Her eyes softened even more, hearing me. "Then don’t look at the end. Just look at me."

She leaned in closer. Her small frame tilted upward, her hands sliding from my cheeks to wrap gently around the back of my neck. Her lips were just a fraction of an inch away from mine, slightly parted.

Every instinct in my body surrendered to her. I closed my eyes, leaning down to finally bridge the gap, ready to feel her lips against mine—

"Woo Jin! Wake up!"

A voice cut through the beautiful field like a sharp blade.

The white flowers suddenly turned into black dust. The blue sky cracked like glass, revealing an endless, terrifying void.

"Woo Jin!"

SLAP!

"HUH?!"

A sharp, stinging pain exploded across my left cheek, forcing my eyes to snap wide open.

My breath rushed back into my lungs. I didn’t see a beautiful blue sky or a field of flowers. The air was freezing cold, thick with dust and the oppressive smell of old blood.

My head was resting on something incredibly soft and warm.

I blinked frantically, my vision slowly focusing in the dim, faint light. Floating right above me was a face. It was Viora. But she had completely removed her mask. Her pale skin was shining faintly in the dark, and her hair framed her face like a halo, while her sightless eyes were wide with genuine, frantic worry.

I was laying my head directly on her lap.

"Huh?" I muttered in confusion.

"Woo Jin!" Viora gasped, her hands instantly reaching down to touch my face, her fingers tracing my jaw to make sure I was entirely intact. "Thank goodness. You wouldn’t wake up. Your heartbeat was getting faster."

"Huh?!" I scrambled backward, my boots sliding against the rough stone floor as I pulled myself away from her lap. My face felt completely on fire, a deep red blush creeping up my neck that had nothing to do with the stinging slap on my cheek. "What... Where... What happened?!"

"The floor collapsed," Vera explained calmly, though her voice still carried a slight tremor from her earlier panic. "Black’s gravity and the explosions broke the stone. We fell down a very long chute."

I looked around frantically as my hands moved to my face. My paper bag mask was completely gone, probably flew away during the fall.

We were standing in a massive, completely black pit. The walls were made of rough, unpolished bedrock, and high above us, I could see the faint, distant hole we had fallen through.

’Then... Was... Was that a... Dream?’

I was almost gonna...
