Yandere Monster Evolution: My Blind Wife Will Become a Demonic Queen
Chapter 140: DeathAs the rope pulled us closer to the top, I looked down at Viora, who was climbing right beneath my boots without even breaking a sweat.
"Viora, wait," I whispered, motioning toward my waist. "We need to put our masks back on before we pull ourselves over the edge."
Viora paused on the rope. She pulled out our two masks and handed mine up to me. I quickly put it on and Viora slid hers on in one fluid motion.
Instantly, we weren’t Woo Jin and Viora anymore. To the rest of the raid party, we were just Brian and Vera.
"Pull!" Seok’s voice yelled from above. "Almost there!"
With one final heave from the hunters at the top, my hands caught the solid edge of the stone ledge. I hoisted myself up, swinging my legs over the side and rolling onto the flat cave floor. Viora vaulted over the edge right behind me, landing soundlessly on her feet like a cat.
"Brian! Vera!"
A commotion instantly broke out around us.
Hana ran forward first, her face pale with worry, followed closely by Jisu, Grog, and Seok. Seok dropped the end of the heavy rope, letting out a massive breath of relief as he looked at us.
"You guys are actually alive!" Hana gasped, kneeling down beside me to inspect my torn shirt and crude bandage. "We heard that massive mana explosion down below and thought the entire cavern collapsed on you two! Are you okay? What happened down there?"
"We managed to destroy the core," I said, keeping my voice low and muffled behind my mask as I stood up. "The gate’s internal mana flow has stabilized."
While Hana and Seok breathed sighs of relief, I glanced over the shoulders of the group toward the back of the tunnel.
Sitting near the stone wall were Carmilla, her mother, and her two young cousins, both huddled close together under a thick blanket. Carmilla’s mother looked exhausted, her face pale and drawn, while Carmilla sat beside her with a cold, silent expression, staring blankly at the ground.
A short distance away from them stood Black. He was leaning against the rocky wall with his arms crossed over his chest, his dark eyes watching us with a sharp, detached glare. Neither Black nor Carmilla said a single word of relief when we climbed up. They barely even acknowledged that we had returned.
"Where are we going now?" I asked Seok, changing the subject. "We checked the exit portal down in the core room. It’s blocked. The gate is holding us here until a hidden condition is met."
Seok sighed deeply, rubbing the back of his neck. "Then, I suppose we should just keep moving until the condition is met."
"Lead the way then," I nodded.
The party gathered their gear and began moving in a tight formation. Seok took the lead, while Hana and Jisu walked in the center to protect Carmilla, her mother, and the two young kids. Black trailed silently behind the group like a ghost, and Viora stayed glued to my right side with her hand clutching my hand.
We descended a long, winding stone staircase that spiraled deep into the belly of the cave, eventually entering a massive, cavernous bunker. The lower vault was cold, smelling of ancient dust and iron. Huge stone pillars supported the ceiling, and a massive set of double doors stood at the entrance.
Once everyone settled inside, everyone let ot a sigh of relief. Grog sat down against a pillar with a loud groan, while Hana immediately began tending to the two young cousins, handing them small strips of dried meat and water canteens.
I limped over to a quiet stone bench against the far wall and sat down, leaning my head back against the cold rock. Viora sat right next to me, her purple hair falling over her shoulder as she leaned in close.
My mind was racing.
’What could the hidden exit condition possibly be?’ I thought, staring up at the vaulted ceiling.
Normally, once you destroy a dungeon core or defeat the gate boss, the portal unlocks instantly for the entire party. But this gate was a bit different.
’We killed the mutated heart. We gathered the surviving party members... so why is the system still locking the portal? What did we miss?’
I ran through every piece of knowledge I had in my head. Was there a secondary boss? An artifact we forgot to collect? Or did the gate require a specific key from the dungeon’s original ruler?
Beside me, Carmilla sat on the floor, gently wrapping her mother’s shoulders in a warm blanket. Her mother’s eyes were heavy with fatigue, but she reached up, softly patting Carmilla’s cheek with a weak, loving smile.
Even in this damp, dangerous underground vault, there was a fleeting moment of quiet peace.
Until the ground violently shuddered.
THUMMMMMMM!
A massive, bone-rattling shockwave slammed through the vault floor!
"W-What was that?!" Grog yelled.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The entire underground structure vibrated violently. Fine stone dust rained down from the high ceiling, and small cracks began spreading across the solid stone pillars. The air inside the chamber suddenly turned suffocatingly hot, filled with the sharp, acrid stench of burning sulfur and raw blood.
"Get down!" Seok screamed, raising his weapon.
Before anyone could react, the heavy stone ceiling forty feet above our heads didn’t just crack—it completely disintegrated!
CRRRRRRACK-BOOM!
A pair of colossal, dark-red scaly claws, each the size of a carriage, smashed directly through twenty feet of solid bedrock from above! The massive talons clamped onto the thick roof of the vault like paper, tearing the stone structure wide open with a terrifying, screeching roar!
ROAAAAAR-CRASH!
Chunks of heavy stone rained down into the room. The party scrambled backward in pure panic, shielding their heads as the red blood from the outer world poured down through the gaping hole in the destroyed ceiling.
High above the torn roof, hovering in the open sky above the mountain, was a creature of absolute nightmare.
It was a dragon.
Its scales were the color of dried blood, gleaming like polished crimson armor under the sun. Massive bat-like wings beat against the wind, generating hurricane-force gusts that blew dust and debris violently across the room. Its eyes were two burning suns of pure molten gold, radiating an pressure so terrifyingly heavy that Jisu and Hana instantly fell to their knees, gasping for air.
The Dragon Lord.
An existence that sat at the absolute apex of the gate’s hierarchy.
And clamped tightly inside the dragon’s massive, razor-sharp jaw was a sight that made the blood freeze in my veins.
It was a body.
A tall man clad in shredded armor, his long silver hair matting with red blood. His chest was completely crushed between the monster’s giant teeth, his body limp and lifeless like a broken doll.
The Vampire Lord. The ruler of the Vampire kingdom and the father of Carmilla.
He was dead.
The Dragon Lord tilted its massive, horned head back into the sky, crushing the silver-haired lord’s corpse in its jaws until a sickening *CRUNCH* echoed across the entire valley. Then, with a casual, terrifying display of power, the dragon opened its mouth and tossed the broken, lifeless body of the Vampire Lord straight down into the ruined vault.
THUD.
The body hit the stone floor just twenty feet away from Carmilla, rolling twice before coming to a complete stop in the dust.
Silence fell over the room.
The heavy, suffocating silence of absolute horror.
Carmilla froze. Her entire body went completely stiff. Her crimson eyes widened until they were shaking, locked onto the bloody, silver-haired corpse lying motionless on the cold stone.
Beside her, her mother let out a sound that didn’t even sound human.
"NOOOOOOOO!"
Her mother threw off the blanket, throwing her body forward onto the floor. She crawled frantically through the sharp stone debris, dragging herself across the dust until she reached the crushed body.
"NO! NO! PLEASE! WAKE UP!" her mother screamed, her voice cracking into desperate, sobbing shrieks. She pulled the dead lord’s face into her lap, clutching his blood-soaked head against her chest as tears poured down her face like a waterfall. "WAKE UP! PLEASE, MY LORD! WAKE UP!"
Her desperate, heartbreaking screams echoed off the broken vault walls. She buried her face into his chest, her hands trembling violently as she tried in vain to stop the bleeding from wounds that had already taken his life minutes ago.
Carmilla didn’t scream.
She stood frozen in place, staring down at her father’s lifeless face.
Slowly, very slowly, a single, crystal-clear tear escaped her left eye, tracing a quiet line down her pale, motionless cheek.
"Father..." she whispered.
Her voice was barely a breath, completely swallowed by her mother’s loud, agonizing wails.
High above the ruined ceiling, the massive crimson dragon let out a deafening, triumphant roar that shook the very foundation of the earth, its golden eyes locking directly down onto the surviving Royal family trapped inside the pit.
