Yandere Monster Evolution: My Blind Wife Will Become a Demonic Queen
Chapter 166: Black’s Death (1)The bullet whizzed past my shoulder, ripping a clean hole through my shirt sleeve.
Quickly, I dove sideways onto the wooden platform, rolling behind a thick supply crate to avoid the spraying lead.
RAT-TAT-TAT-TAT!
Sparks flew off the metal bands of the crate as bullets bit into the heavy wood.
"Stay down, Brian!" Viora called out.
She didn’t need cover. Her purple mana aura flared up around her body like a dark violet flame, swirling tight around her white-wrapped fists. She stepped right into the line of fire.
The third mercenary aimed his rifle at her head and pulled the trigger. Viora moved her head an inch to the left, letting the bullet graze past her brown paper bag mask. She took a long, explosive stride forward, her purple aura bursting outward.
BOOM!
She slammed her right palm straight into the man’s chest plate. The heavy tactical steel crumpled under her strength, and the mercenary flew backward off the platform, crashing hard into the dark abyss below.
The remaining two shooters panicked, turning their guns toward Viora.
I didn’t waste the opening. I popped up from behind the crate, and kicked the back of his knee joint, forcing him down, and slammed the heavy hilt of my iron dagger right into his temple.
THUD!
He slumped face-first onto the wooden planks.
Viora handled the last guard with a single, sweeping leg kick that shattered his rifle and sent him sliding unconscious across the floor.
In less than a minute, all the mercenaries were down. Only Black was left standing near the floating golden core.
"You fools..." Black growled. His voice was raspy, echoing behind his hard black plastic face mask. "You think you can just ruin everything I’ve built?!"
"Drop the briefcase, Adrian," I said, catching my breath and holding my dagger steady. "The mercenaries are done. The portal is locked. You have nowhere to go."
Black didn’t drop the briefcase. Instead, his black mask tilted upward, and his eyes burned with an eerie, dark purple glow.
"You don’t understand anything," Black spat.
He slammed his heavy boot down onto the wooden floor of the platform!
BOOM!
A terrifying wave of gravitational force exploded out from his body in a twenty-foot radius.
The wooden planks instantly shattered into splintered toothpicks. Giant blocks of stone beneath the platform ripped free from the cavern wall, levitating five feet in the air as Black’s aura flared up like a roaring storm.
"Brian, look out!" Viora shouted.
Before I could even jump back, an invisible, crushing weight slammed down onto my shoulders.
CRUNCH!
It felt like a concrete truck had just landed on my back. My knees buckled instantly, slamming hard against the cracking wooden floor. The breath left my lungs in a sharp gasp. I couldn’t move my arms. I couldn’t even raise my iron dagger. The gravity pressure was locking me flat against the ground.
Even Viora groaned under the sudden force. Her boots sank an inch into the solid wood as her purple aura flared higher, fighting against the crushing weight pushing down on her shoulders.
"Gravity manipulation..." Viora grunted as she forced herself to stand upright. "A high-tier spatial attribute!"
"I spent years building this operation!" Black roared. He raised his right hand, and three giant stone boulders pulled from the cavern wall floated into the air above his head. "I didn’t come here for money! I didn’t come here for the council!"
He swung his hand downward.
SWOOSH!
The three massive boulders came crashing down toward us like meteors.
"Vera!" I yelled, struggling to raise my head through the crushing pressure.
Viora crossed her arms in front of her brown paper mask. Her purple aura burst out in a blinding, violet wave, forming a dense shockwave around her body.
BOOM-CRASH!
She drove a purple-infused upper-cut straight into the first boulder, shattering it into thousands of tiny pebbles.
She spun around on her heel, her elbow smashing the second rock to dust. But the sheer force of the gravity field pushed her back three steps, her boots leaving deep skid marks on the splintered planks.
Black didn’t stop. He raised both hands, pulling up a ten-foot slab of solid bedrock directly from the cave floor.
"Begone!" Black screamed, slamming the massive stone slab toward Viora.
Viora jumped back, but the heavy gravity field caught her feet, slowing her down just enough. The stone slab clipped her side, throwing her off balance. She crashed sideways into the wooden railing, her purple aura flickering wildly as she struggled against the heavy pressure.
I gritted my teeth. My chest felt like it was going to pop open under the crushing weight.
I dragged myself forward inch by inch, my fingers digging into the cracked wood.
"Why are you doing this, Black?!" I forced the words out of my throat, staring up at his hard black mask. "You’re going to destroy everything!"
Black froze for a split second. The floating stones around him hovered in mid-air, trembling slightly.
"My house...?" Black rasped. His voice cracked, losing its cold, arrogant edge. "My house is already empty!"
"We know who you are, Black," Viora said, slowly pushing herself up from the broken railing, her purple aura stabilizing around her arms. "We know about your family. We know about your wife. And we know about your home."
Black’s shoulders trembled violently. He squeezed his hands into tight fists, his heavy gravity aura rippling with dark, chaotic energy.
"Then you know nothing!" Black yelled, his raspy voice shaking with pure grief. "I don’t care about the Association! I don’t care about the lower district! I need the Heart Tree’s core! I need it!"
He dropped to one knee on the shaking platform, clutching his heavy briefcase tightly against his chest.
"I need it for Yuna!" Black cried out, his voice echoing painfully through the cavern. "I need the pure life-mana to cure her!"
I blinked behind my paper bag mask.
Yuna?
My mind raced. Yuna was his daughter. Why is he saying he need it for her?
"Yuna is dying..." Black choked out, tears leaking from beneath the edge of his hard black mask. "The guild doctors said she wouldn’t survive till the end of the month! They wanted five billion for a high-tier holy potion! Five billion! Where am I supposed to get that kind of money?!"
He looked at the floating golden core, his eyes filled with absolute madness and sorrow.
"This core... this pure life-mana is the only thing strong enough to rebuild her channels!" Black wept, his voice breaking. "I don’t care if the rift collapses! I don’t care if the city burns! If my little girl dies, none of this matters anyway!"
I stayed quiet, lying on the cold, cracked wood.
I looked at Black. He wasn’t just a corrupt hunter or a greedy smuggler anymore. He was just a desperate, broken father who had run out of time and options.
Beside me, Viora also lowered her fists. Her purple aura softened, swirling quietly around her wrists. She knew Yuna too. She had felt the little girl’s weak, fluttering heartbeat at her birthday party.
"Black..." I said softly, my voice calm despite the pressure. "Stealing this core won’t save her. The raw mana inside the Heart Tree is unstable. If you give it to Yuna in this state, it will burn her channels to ash in two seconds."
"You’re lying!" Black screamed, clutching his head in agony. "You’re just trying to stop me!"
"He isn’t lying," Viora said quietly. "You are not a healer. You know raw dungeon cores carry corruption. You are rushing her to her grave."
"No... No, no, NO!" Black roared, slamming both fists onto the floor!
BOOM!
The sudden explosion of his dark gravity aura pushed the entire platform down three inches. The air inside the cavern turned ice-cold, and the dark purple energy surrounding Black didn’t just expand—it started twisting inward, sinking directly into his chest.
THUMP-THUMP!
A strange, unnatural heartbeat echoed through the entire underground cave. It wasn’t the soft, golden pulse of the Heart Tree. It was a dark, wet, sickening thud.
Black grabbed his own throat, his hard black mask cracking right down the middle.
"AGGGHHH!" Black shrieked in unbearable pain.
Thick, jet-black veins burst out across his neck and arms, swelling under his skin like writhing black worms. The purple gravity mana surrounding him turned dark crimson, leaking out of his nose, eyes, and mouth.
"What is happening to him?!" Elian yelled from the tunnel entrance, stepping back in horror. "His spirit signature is twisting!"
I gasped as a bright blue window suddenly flashed right in front of my eyes.
DING!
[ABNORMAL MONSTER DETECTED NEARBY]
[SUBJECT: SENIOR ENFORCER BLACK]
[WARNING: HUMAN HOST IS UNDERGOING MANA CORRUPTION MUTATION]
[MUTATION PROGRESS: 45%... 60%... 80%...]
My blood ran cold.
’Shit! It is that state where he forgets he reasoning.’
He wasn’t turning into a monster on the outside. His body wasn’t growing scales or sharp horns. He was mutating from the inside out. The chaotic, corrupted dark mana from the laser drill explosion was fusing with his desperate grief, destroying his human side and turning his heart into a dark monster core.
"Vera!" I shouted, pushing myself up as the gravity field suddenly warped wildly. "He’s mutating! The corrupted mana is taking over his mind!"
Black lifted his head slowly.
The hard black mask on his face shattered into tiny plastic pieces, falling onto the floor.
Behind the mask, his face was unrecognizable. His eyes were completely solid black, overflowing with dark crimson tears. His skin was pale grey, and black veins throbbed wildly across his cheeks.
"Yuna..." Black rasped, his voice no longer sounding human. It was a terrifying, double-layered roar that rattled the stone walls. "I... must... save... Yuna..."
