Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple. The night was late, and all was still.
A sliver of a waning moon hung over the distant mountain ridge, its cold, clear light dusting the courtyard like frost.
The gnarled branches of an ancient tree twisted into shape, its leaves dancing to cast a mottled ink wash painting upon the moonlit ground.
No lamps were lit within the Daoist Temple. Only the moonlight and the faint chirping of insects sketched out a scene of quiet solitude, a world apart.
Qi Yun still wore his deep blue Daoist robe. He was without the Sect Leader’s crown or any magical artifacts that might signify his authority.
He sat cross-legged on an old, bluestone meditation mat beneath the ancient tree. His back melted into the night, his aura so peaceful it was nearly nonexistent. He seemed just another part of the scenery, a stone weathered by ages of wind and rain.
As the Vice Sect Leader of the Holy Sect, he was entitled to reside in the highest reaches of the Taixu Mirror Heaven, to enjoy the glory of basking in the sect’s concentrated spiritual mechanism and gazing down upon a thousand leagues of rivers and mountains.
But he still preferred this small Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple.
Though its furnishings were simple, this place held his earliest memories: of first entering the Holy Sect, of struggling to survive from humble beginnings, of the cautious, calculated steps he took to advance.
Here, he was just Qi Yun.
This sense of peace and freedom, born from his ordinary past, was something no Immortal Blessed Land or seat of power could ever replace.
After sitting in silence for a moment, he slowly raised his hand and spread his fingers.
HMMMM...
It was a soft hum, not one heard by the ear, but a resonance of the Dao itself.
An infinite light quietly emerged from his palm. It started as a mere firefly’s gleam, then erupted into a swirling, misty halo that contained boundless phenomena within.
At the halo’s core, a speck of dust began to expand and manifest in an unbelievable way—purity and turbidity separated, yin and yang were born, suns rose and moons set, and the phantoms of mountains and rivers flickered within.
This was the Cave Heaven Dust Two Realms Technique, a skill wielded by the Great Sun Purple Extreme True Monarch.
This technique was neither for attack nor defense; it was a supreme divine technique used by a True Monarch to establish a personal Dao domain and evolve their own great Dao.
With a mere thought from Qi Yun, the miniature grotto-heaven descended like an overturned, iridescent jade bowl. As light flowed across its surface, it gently yet completely enveloped the entire Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple and the surrounding few miles of land.
In that instant, the ambient spiritual energy both inside and outside the courtyard changed completely.
The wind from the outside world could no longer penetrate the area now covered by the Grotto Heaven Law.
The distant mountains blurred, the insects fell silent, and even the moonlight seemed to pass through a filter, growing colder and more pure.
All external probing, divination, and even the subtle tug of karmic threads were silently blocked by this self-contained world. Nothing could breach it in the slightest.
Once this was done, Qi Yun’s expression remained serene as he slowly drew an object from his wide sleeve.
It was a single thread.
It was about three inches long and as fine as a human hair, yet it pulsed with an ineffably noble golden light.
The golden light wasn’t blinding; it was gentle and restrained. Yet to gaze upon it for more than a moment was to feel your vision swim and your mind wander, as if your very divine soul were being drawn into the vast will and pure Dao principles contained within.
The ’gold-nature’ of the Vidyārāja Bodhisattva.
Qi Yun held it in his palm, his gaze as tranquil as a deep pool, reflecting the dancing golden light.
"’Gold-nature’..."
He muttered to himself, his voice clearly audible in the absolute silence of the grotto-heaven’s embrace.
"It is forged through the life-bound cultivation of a True Monarch, born from the crystallization of their Dao Fruit.
It inherits their status and is branded with their Daoist Intent.
Every single thread is formed by absorbing the essence of the sun and moon, refining the profound mysteries of Heaven and Earth, enduring countless calamities without fading, and surviving a thousand perils.
It is, in essence, the embodiment of a True Monarch’s entire being and fortune—their most precious possession."
According to the ancient texts, the applications of ’gold-nature’ were endless.
It could be used to compile a supreme skill that pointed directly to the Great Dao.
It could alter one’s karma and fate.
It could be used to refine a supreme guardian treasure imbued with a True Monarch’s fundamental Dao principles, and more...
Even if a True Monarch’s path was cut short, their body destroyed and divine soul grievously wounded, they could use the ’gold-nature’ as an anchor to protect a glimmer of their true spirit, allowing them to undergo reincarnation cultivation and continue their path.
Its value was immeasurable.
Gazing at the opportunity in his palm—one he’d risked his life to obtain—Qi Yun felt little of the joy one might expect from acquiring such a treasure. Instead, he fell into deeper contemplation.
The Great Sun Purple Extreme True Monarch had attained the Path Ascension Method, breaking free from the shackles of his Fruit Position to become a self-contained entity. It was indeed a new and unprecedented path.
The novelty of this method lay in its independence from external aids; transcendence was achieved through one’s own will alone. The resulting path offered greater freedom, and its potential seemed far more vast.
However, the path was still in its infancy. Many of its challenges had yet to be overcome, and whether it led to a grand vista or a dead end remained to be seen.
More importantly, the method did not yet appear to be definitively superior to the well-established Profound Yellow Dao Certification Method, a system passed down through the ages.
And he himself possessed the Profound Yellow Venerable Dao Foundation, which held the potential for supreme transcendence.
It was the very source of his power, the pivot around which all skills evolved. Its potential was nearly supreme.
To rashly abandon this known, near-supreme foundation for a new path with an uncertain future would be the height of folly.
’Proving the Dao of Profound Yellow... Although I’ve witnessed other monarchs demonstrate its power, observed the phenomena of their Divine Courts, and sensed the might of their Fruit Positions, I’m still just an outsider looking in, seeing it all through a fog.’
Qi Yun’s gaze was profound, as if light of chaos and brilliant yellow were weaving together within his eyes, calculating and deducing.
’Its profound essence, the mechanics of its operation, the methods for harmonizing with it... none of it can be truly known without personal experience.
Many of its crucial aspects are not recorded in any scripture, nor are they passed down by word of mouth.
Only through the act of ’proving’ can one achieve complete understanding.’
His ambitions had long since surpassed what ordinary cultivators could even imagine.
In the eyes of others, his goals were already wildly ambitious, a fool’s dream.
But the struggle for the Great Dao was, by its very nature, an act of defying the heavens.
Only the most stubborn, the most daring dreamers, could ever hope to glimpse the view from the true summit.
’To take the strengths of both methods, compensate for my own weaknesses, and forge a truly open path unique to the Venerable Dao Foundation...’
This was no passing whim; the idea had been circling in the depths of his mind for a long time.
For an ordinary cultivator, succeeding in even one method was a blessing from the heavens. Even a lifetime of effort might not be enough to achieve perfection.
’Cultivate both?
It would mean dividing my focus, and the two paths would inevitably clash.
The slightest misstep could lead to the collapse of my Dao Foundation, a fall from which there is no recovery.’
But he was Qi Yun.
’And I possess the Daluo Heaven, which can command all skills and evolve endless possibilities...’
In the courtyard, the moonlight flowed like water, and the ancient tree stood in silence.
An unknown amount of time passed. The light of constant deduction and deliberation in Qi Yun’s eyes slowly faded, replaced by a crystal-clear understanding and an ironclad resolve.
He slowly closed his fingers, gently grasping the pulsing thread of ’gold-nature’ and pressing it to the ancestral acupoint between his brows.
"The Great Dao is an abyss. How can one be content to walk a single path?"
His voice was soft, yet it carried an unshakeable conviction that echoed quietly through the tranquil world enveloped by the grotto-heaven.
"In that case..."
"I will cultivate a second body!"
’I will use this new body as a vessel to personally cross the sea of Proving the Dao of Profound Yellow and witness its landscape firsthand.
Then, the new and the old will converge, and the two methods can be compared and contrasted.
I will take the best of each and discard the rest...’
His eyes fell half-closed, and his aura retracted completely, focusing on the newly born, world-shaking idea.
’For me, the Venerable...’
’...to forge an unprecedented...’
’...path to the heavens!’
The waning moon drifted west, its cold light unwavering.
Beneath the ancient tree, the figure in the deep blue Daoist robe seemed to have turned to stone.
Only the ’gold-nature’ clutched in his palm still moved, leaking brilliant golden rays through his fingers, as if illuminating the path to the future.
At the Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple, all was silent.
And so, under the cover of a moonlit night, known to no one, the prelude to an outrageously audacious undertaking had quietly begun.
...
Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple. Dawn had not yet broken.
Dew from the night before clung to the leaves of the ancient tree, shimmering on the verge of falling.
Qi Yun sat alone in a meditation chamber. Before him, on a low table, lay a pile of jade and hide scrolls, some new, some old.
Spread open on top was a thick tome titled *Treasury Clearing Rules*.
The air in the chamber was still, broken only by the faint whisper of his fingers tracing the pages and the sound of his breathing, which grew long and slow.
"...Three hundred catties of Blood River Crystal, logged in the seventh month of the Jiazi year... Fifty bushels of Nine Nether Blood Soul Sand, logged in the ninth month of the Jiazi year... Blood Refining and Essence Merging Pill Formula, sealed in the secret vault, annotated: ’For supplementary cultivation of the *Blood Spirit Scripture*, from Qi Refining to Foundation Establishment’..."
Qi Yun’s gaze swept over the seemingly ordinary inventory records, line by line. His fingertip finally came to rest on one page, where it remained for a long time.
Every item listed was either an unorthodox, sinister Heavenly and Earthly Treasure or an elixir formula related to blood, qi, and the soul.
One or two such items might simply indicate a well-stocked treasury.
But when they were all sorted, silently gathered according to the needs of a specific cultivation skill, and even labeled with their intended purpose, over a period spanning several decades...
The implications were entirely different.
"The Jiazi year..." Qi Yun murmured the date, a sharp glint in his eyes.
That was the very year, not long after he had achieved Foundation Establishment, that Nan Dou Master had personally come to the Cyan Mountain Daoist Temple and placed the *Blood Spirit Scripture General Outline* in his hands.
’No wonder...’
He slowly closed the *Treasury Clearing Rules* and leaned back against his meditation mat, his gaze drifting toward the empty space in the chamber.
’No wonder Nan Dou Master personally handed me the *Blood Spirit Scripture General Outline* all those years ago. He urged me to be cautious, but was that genuine advice or reverse psychology?
’And all the while, he had secretly prepared all the resources needed to cultivate the *Blood Spirit Scripture*.’ Qi Yun’s eyes narrowed as he slowly set down the *Treasury Clearing Rules*.
After deciding to cultivate a second body to personally experience the wonders of the Profound Yellow Dao Certification Method, he had begun searching for a suitable lineage among the Holy Sect’s vast ocean of legacies.
He then happened to recall that when he had reached the Foundation Establishment Realm, Nan Dou Master had gifted him a scroll of the *Blood Spirit Scripture*.
The technique was from the Elder Master’s own lineage, considered one of the very best among the Profound Yellow, which made it a suitable choice.
But when he checked the sect’s treasury for any resources that might aid his cultivation of it, he was surprised to find a complete set of cultivation resources for the *Blood Spirit Scripture*, covering everything from Qi Refining to Foundation Establishment.
Furthermore, based on the logging dates, they had been prepared long ago.
’There’s definitely something strange about this scripture. And it’s no small matter, either.’ His eyes were clear, his thoughts racing like lightning.
’For my teacher to only give me a vague warning—"trust no one"—on his deathbed, without being able to speak of the crux of the matter... I fear it wasn’t that he was unwilling, but that he was unable.
’The schemes of a True Monarch involve karma and meddle with the secrets of heaven.
The Elder Master only had a Foundation Establishment cultivation. If the will of a True Monarch was truly behind this, then even if he had glimpsed a clue, he would never have been able to speak of it openly.
He could only offer an indirect warning in what were nearly his last words, leaving behind a clue.’
"If it weren’t for my teacher’s warning back then, given my state of mind at the time, I might not have been able to resist such a top-tier legacy that was practically handed to me," Qi Yun muttered to himself.
Back then, though he had already achieved Foundation Establishment, he was still no more than an ant in the eyes of truly powerful experts.
But now...
Qi Yun’s fingers tightened slightly around the scroll of the *Blood Spirit Scripture General Outline*. His gaze settled, becoming as still and deep as an ancient well, betraying no ripple of emotion.
’Times have changed.’
His voice was calm, yet it carried the certainty of one who had weathered many storms.
’I wield the authority of the Holy Sect, I possess the Profound Yellow Venerable Dao Foundation, and I even have the Great Sun Purple Extreme True Monarch’s Dharma Body as my ultimate safeguard.’
’Since the banquet has already been prepared,’
Qi Yun slowly rose to his feet and walked to the window of the meditation chamber.
Outside, the sky was in the liminal state just before dawn. The distant mountains were dark as ink, shrouded in a primordial mist.
’if I were to refuse, wouldn’t I be spurning the host’s kind intentions?
’Besides...’
He turned and looked back at the *Blood Spirit Scripture General Outline* on the table.
’I refuse to believe there’s any trick in this world that can withstand the refinement of my Magic Technique Panel!’
