Chapter 2017: Chapter 2014: Springwater
Lin Tian walked through the rear garden of Huangquan Inn, treading on the green grass. His soles felt a soft and comfortable sensation—no wonder Meng Po walked barefoot within the inn. It was truly an enjoyment, he thought idly.
Besides the green plants, the rear garden housed other rare and precious flowers that Lin Tian had never seen. Petals like droplets, blooms resembling stars, and a myriad of shapes—even the grass underfoot was of an unknown variety to him.
Lin Tian walked alongside Meng Po, neither of them speaking. On the surface, they seemed like friends whose friendship was as light as water, yet Lin Tian could not discern the woman beside him.
"Here we are." Meng Po whispered, stopping in her tracks.
Not far away, surrounded by flowers, the blossoms appeared even more vibrant. Amidst the floral cluster lay a spring, bordered by a circle of sky-blue stones, the spring waters continuously bubbling to the surface, overflowing past the stones and flowing outward.
The crystal-clear spring water held no impurities, and a thin mist lingered around the spring, nourishing the surrounding flowers and making them even more vibrant and full.
Occasionally, a wisp of mist wafted over, giving Lin Tian an uncomfortable sensation—a feeling akin to when he drank that tea earlier.
Lin Tian furrowed his brows and asked, "Was the tea just now made from the spring water before us?"
"That’s correct," Meng Po replied calmly.
Lin Tian’s eyes flashed as he raised his foot to step towards it, but Meng Po reached out to stop him: "Don’t go, even though you are a zombie, the spring water can harm you."
Although Lin Tian knew that his zombie identity couldn’t be hidden from Meng Po, hearing her say it directly still startled him. It seemed that nothing could remain secret from her gaze.
Lin Tian did not proceed forward but instead turned to look into Meng Po’s eyes. She did not look away and maintained her gaze at Lin Tian, speaking indifferently: "Don’t you want to know why the tea could harm your zombie body? I can tell you."
"Because this spring is the Life Spring." Upon mentioning the name of the spring, a brilliance bloomed in the depths of Meng Po’s eyes as if distant memories surfaced from their hidden recesses.
"The Life Spring?" Lin Tian’s face was full of astonishment.
Meng Po nodded slightly and spoke quietly: "The Life Spring contains powerful life energy that nourishes all things. But life energy is contrary to your zombie power, and when the two meet, they inevitably consume each other. So, when you drank the Life Spring’s water earlier, you felt your power dwindling. Now, do you understand?"
Lin Tian frowned, feeling a bit annoyed. Clearly knowing that he was a zombie, she still had him drink the Life Spring’s water—what was her intention? He had no feud with her.
He couldn’t quite fathom Meng Po’s purpose in this action.
Seemingly seeing through Lin Tian’s thoughts, Meng Po continued to explain, "With your current power, one bowl of Life Spring’s water can’t really affect you. I did this only to lead you here."
"Lead me here?" Lin Tian froze for a moment, not understanding right away.
Meng Po looked into Lin Tian’s eyes, showing a slight smile on her face: "If I’m not mistaken, that young girl Xiao Manxuan still doesn’t know your zombie identity, right?"
"So, should I thank you for concealing my identity?" Lin Tian said indifferently.
Meng Po shook her head slightly and replied, "We are not opposed to each other; I merely choose the more beneficial force field."
"Alright, Madame Meng Po succeeded in bringing me here, but not just to see the Life Spring, right?" Without significant loss, Lin Tian didn’t want to dwell on it, as there were more questions he wished to ask shortly.
"You have three powerful forces in your body..." Meng Po’s gaze was intense, scrutinizing Lin Tian while extending her hand to touch the center of Lin Tian’s forehead.
Lin Tian stood composed, not stopping her. Meng Po’s hand glided down, pressing on his chest, then continuing downward to rest on his lower elixir field.
At the lower elixir field, her hand lingered for quite a while, seemingly sensing something, but eventually, she found no result and furrowed her brows slightly.
"Three forces: the power of fire, the power of Ksitigarbha, but the last force I cannot perceive. What is this final force?" Meng Po asked earnestly.
While Meng Po recounted, Lin Tian felt astonished—Meng Po was too remarkable, seeing through his very essence as if he were transparent.
In addition to these three forces, there was also the Sword Spirit within him, which Meng Po hadn’t mentioned, perhaps because the Sword Spirit didn’t catch her Dharma Eye. However, Lin Tian felt somewhat comforted; at least she hadn’t identified the Taiyin Xuan Qi.
"Taiyin Xuan Qi." Lin Tian said straightforwardly, without skirting around.
"Taiyin Xuan Qi!" Meng Po was startled, her expression dramatically changing—something rarely shown on her face. It was a while before she returned to her calm demeanor, softly uttering two words: "Providence."
"What providence? I only believe in myself." Lin Tian said coldly.
"I hope you can hold onto this belief; however, with Taiyin Xuan Qi appearing in a zombie, the future is unpredictable." Meng Po affirmed Lin Tian’s sentiment but quickly followed with some contemplation.
Lin Tian’s eyes flashed and he casually asked, "About Taiyin Xuan Qi, I have only heard the name, knowing nothing else. Does Madame Meng Po know anything?"
Meng Po paused in silence for a moment and said, "It’s useless to tell you now, but in the future, you will understand. You must stick to your beliefs and not be controlled by anyone, including the Zombie Ancestor."
After a pause, she added: "If I’ve judged correctly, that young girl Xiao Manxuan is not simple either; she and the ancient guqin hide vast powers that even I can’t see clearly."
"Even Madame Meng Po can’t see through them? Truly regrettable. Xuanxuan and the guqin possess a power of the same origin, but this power threatens her life. I had hoped to seek direction from Madame Meng Po." Lin Tian said regretfully.
If even Meng Po cannot discern the power, wouldn’t it be on the same level as Taiyin Xuan Qi? Even if it’s not in the same grade, it might perhaps surpass Meng Po—for otherwise, Meng Po couldn’t fail to discern it.
It seems finding a method to identify the ancient guqin and comprehend the alien energy won’t be possible.
Meng Po laughed lightly and said, "Don’t worry; good-hearted people aren’t easy to perish."
Good-hearted? Lin Tian smiled inwardly; the Second Miss was certainly kind, but in this world, kindness doesn’t guarantee longevity. Sometimes, indeed, kind people may be more vulnerable to harm.
Yet he did not refute Meng Po, sticking to his belief—trusting himself rather than subscribing to the notion of goodness rewarded.
"You seemingly have more questions for me?" Meng Po blinked, looking into Lin Tian’s eyes with curiosity.
Her eyes were remarkably beautiful, like stars, but Lin Tian had no heart to admire them, for those eyes seemed capable of seeing through everything—terrifyingly so.
Indeed, Lin Tian had more questions to ask, and these questions were the very purpose of coming to Huangquan Inn today.
