Zombie Bodyguard

Chapter 2069 - 2066: Miraculous Evolution

Chapter 2069: Chapter 2066: Miraculous Evolution

With a buzz, Little Zi flew towards the blue insect, its stance just like its owner, a big foodie.

Little Zi was slightly bigger than the blue insect, but in terms of stomach capacity, it was not as large. However, the appetite of a foodie is never measured by stomach size.

Crunch, crunch, Little Zi bit into the blue insect, and in no time, swallowed it whole. Yet, its small belly barely bulged, proving once again that the capacity of a foodie is unpredictable.

After Little Zi finished eating the insect, everyone was full of anticipation. The creature fluttered in the air with a showy display, then suddenly, with a thud, fell straight to the ground.

"Little Zi..." Xiao Manxuan called out anxiously, but Little Zi remained on the ground, unresponsive.

Additionally, blue liquid kept pouring from Little Zi’s mouth, soon covering it completely, wrapping it into a blue cocoon.

"Don’t worry, it seems to be evolving," Lin Tian reassured. Last time, after eating the Golden Silkworm Gu, it also spun a cocoon and then evolved. Sure enough, the blue liquid gradually hardened, forming an oval-shaped cocoon.

"What will it become?" Xiao Manxuan asked with some concern.

Lin Tian shrugged, quite helpless: "I’m not a Gu Cultivator, how would I know what it will become? I guess even Li Qingyun couldn’t predict it here."

Little Zi had fused with the Zombie Gu and the Golden Silkworm Gu, absorbed the blood of Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan, and now it had fused with the blue insect. Even an Immortal might not see how it would evolve.

The coastline insects had not retreated, so Lin Tian could not continue forward and had to wait here, watching Little Zi’s evolution. To prevent any more beasts from appearing, Xiao Manxuan set up a barrier around them again, allowing everyone to rest a bit.

After continuously facing beasts, the Giant Pig, and insects, both physically and mentally, they had been in a state of tension. Without a break, the string would snap.

An hour passed, and a crisp cracking sound reached everyone’s ears. The originally resting group opened their eyes, staring at the blue cocoon on the ground.

The cocoon split open with a small crack, which widened continuously until, with a snap, it split in half, and Little Zi crawled out, slowly spreading its wings.

The wings shimmered with vibrant colors, far more beautiful than before, and the golden patterns had turned to blue-gold, mysterious and noble. The body lengthened a bit, and its aggressiveness seemed to have weakened, but Lin Tian knew its sharpness was now buried deeper.

Little Zi fluttered its wings a few times, as if adjusting to its new body or perhaps showing off. Then it did something surprising; it turned around and ate the broken cocoon, crunching it like crispy cookies.

After it finished eating, Xiao Manxuan hesitantly called out, "Little Zi?"

With a buzz, Little Zi flew up, performed a familiar figure-eight dance in front of Lin Tian, then obediently returned to Xiao Manxuan.

Seeing its familiar habit, Xiao Manxuan breathed a big sigh of relief. Earlier, she had worried that after swallowing the blue insect, Little Zi might have "changed its heart."

Now everything was fine: it hadn’t transformed into the terrifying appearance of the blue insect, nor had it "changed its heart," and it had even grown more beautiful. Zhang Lingyu and the other two smiled sincerely, witnessing Little Zi’s rebirth and evolution; the earlier dangers seemed worth it.

"Sister..."

Suddenly, a light, childish voice reached the little girl’s ears. She paused, looking up at Lin Tian and the others, wondering, "Who called me sister?"

Zhang Lingyu, Shangguan Ao Yue, and Mu Yun all looked puzzled, shaking their heads to show they hadn’t spoken: "We didn’t say anything, nor did we hear anyone calling ’sister.’"

Frowning, Zhang Lingyu looked at Lin Tian because he was the only one not shaking his head. Lin Tian pointed at Little Zi: "I heard it too. It seemed like it was the one calling."

"Little Zi? How could that be? It’s just an insect, it doesn’t have vocal cords. How could it make sounds?" Xiao Manxuan instinctively expressed disbelief,

Being a medical student, she knew the uniqueness of human vocal cords; only such vocal cords could produce human sounds. Of course, parrots and mynahs were special cases, merely mimicking without truly speaking.

Little Zi, being an insect, didn’t have a syrinx or tongue, unable to produce or mimic human sounds.

"I didn’t say it was sound; it’s a psychic communication, understand? There’s a special connection between a Gu Cultivator and their Gu Worm, just like how before, you could see the vision transmitted back by Little Zi when it controlled the creature. Also, that Secret Master Yasuo could control birds and see the vision information they transmitted back."

Lin Tian explained in detail because this was how the Sword Spirit communicated with him too, without speaking, just pure telepathy.

"But why can you hear it while they can’t?" Xiao Manxuan still asked curiously.

Lin Tian thought for a moment, not quite sure: "Maybe it’s because it fused with my blood, or else I can’t think of another reason."

"This is amazing." Xiao Manxuan was somewhat excited, then turned to Little Zi: "Little Zi, why do you call me sister, and not something else?"

"Sister..." Little Zi responded with just those two words.

"Sigh, it seems it doesn’t understand the meaning." Xiao Manxuan shook her head slightly but still unwillingly asked, "What do you call Lin Tian?"

"Lin Tian..." Little Zi responded with two words again.

Lin Tian was stunned, deliberately feigning seriousness: "Just calling me by name, no respect, you should call me ’handsome guy.’

Seeing him scold a tiny insect, the women all smiled.

"Lin Tian..." Little Zi still repeated, giving no face at all.

Lin Tian sighed, helpless: "It seems since you often call Miss Sister ’sister’ and call me Lin Tian, that’s all it knows how to call us."

"Forget it, I’m already happy it evolved to this point. Just wondering if its combat ability has improved," Xiao Manxuan said happily, with anticipation.

As if responding to the little girl, Little Zi suddenly flew up, charging toward the sea of insects. Its speed was comparable to that of an Innate Expert. It skimmed over the insect sea, and when it returned, it had caught a blue insect with its two front feet.

The blue insect struggled fiercely, its round mouth opening and closing hideously, trying to fight back. But Little Zi was undeterred, lowering its head and biting ferociously, a series of crunching sounds followed as it devoured the blue insect whole.

"This... is amazing," Shangguan Ao Yue exclaimed in awe.

Squashing a single insect wasn’t much of a task, but capturing an insect from the sea of insects was harder than reaching for the stars. Yet Little Zi managed it.

"It’s a pity there’s only one Little Zi. If there were as many as those insects, no, just a small part, they could completely hunt down the insects," Zhang Lingyu said regretfully.

Lin Tian also thought of this issue, but, with only one Little Zi hunting alone, even given a hundred years, it wouldn’t finish off the coastal insects. Besides, who knows how many more are in the seawater.

As they discussed Little Zi’s combat abilities, a shadow slowly floated over from the distant sea.
