Chapter 2081 - 2078: Return

Chapter 2081: Chapter 2078: Return

Lin Tian pushed aside the sword hilt, revealing what was underneath—an inconspicuous black ring with a dull surface. He picked it up and rubbed it a few times; the ring had a slightly rough feel and a weight that made it impossible to discern its material.

This kind of ring is so unremarkable that it could be tossed on the street without anyone bothering to pick it up. Lin Tian hadn’t noticed it at first.

"Brother Lin Tian, are you seriously choosing this black iron ring?" He Shan asked in surprise.

"That’s right, I’m choosing it," Lin Tian smiled, looking indifferent.

"Cough, cough..." He Shan choked, completely unable to understand Lin Tian’s choice: "We’ve had many people appraise it; aside from its hardness, this black iron ring is utterly useless. To say it has use, maybe an archer could barely make use of it."

Archers generally wear rings to protect their fingers, but such rings can be made from any piece of iron and are not of great value.

This is why He Shan was confused about why Lin Tian would choose a ring with almost no value when the rewards for the Blood Spirit Stone task included items far more precious.

Lin Tian didn’t care about what he said and instead wore the ring on his thumb, fitting perfectly like it was custom-made.

"See, it’s a perfect fit. It means it’s meant for me, so it’s the one," Lin Tian said cheerfully.

He Shan scratched his head hesitantly and said, "Brother Lin Tian, with that choice, it’s hard for me to justify."

"Don’t worry, what’s there to justify? Being able to forge the Blood Spirit Stone into equipment is what matters most; everything else is minor," Lin Tian said magnanimously.

He Shan nodded in agreement and didn’t dwell on it further: "Alright, it’s up to you. When do you plan to leave?"

"Right away." Lin Tian was very straightforward.

"Alright, I know you have things to do, won’t keep you longer. Here’s a Blood Sea City’s token. With it, you’ll have unrestricted access to Blood Sea City in the future." He Shan wasn’t one to be indecisive and didn’t make excessive attempts to detain them.

He took a token from his waist and handed it to Lin Tian. Lin Tian accepted it, carefully put it away, and bowed to take leave, telling He Shan not to bother escorting them to avoid delaying military duties at the fortress.

After bidding farewell to He Shan, Lin Tian and the others rode their warhorses to depart Blood Sea City.

Once out in the wild, Xiao Manxuan couldn’t help but ask, "Lin Tian, is there something special about that ring? Why did you choose it?"

Lin Tian shook his head with a smile and said, "There’s nothing special about it, just a ring. I picked it for convenience. Look, I’m already carrying a zither; if I chose something bulky, it would be difficult to carry."

This was indeed what he felt; Lin Tian was not interested in those rewards at all. The reason for choosing the ring was simply because it was lightweight.

"You usually don’t miss out; why not pick something good this time? I think that dagger looked pretty decent, and it’s quite light too." Zhang Lingyu joked.

Lin Tian was silent for a moment, then sighed slightly: "That dagger set is very suited for Hongyue, consider it a compensation."

"You turned her down before, now you’re compensating her. Should I call you heartless or sentimental?" Zhang Lingyu teased.

Lin Tian just looked into the distance without refuting but internally questioned himself, was he truly heartless?

"I’ve heard of that set of equipment," Mu Yun suddenly said, interrupting Lin Tian’s thoughts.

Lin Tian’s eyes lit up with interest: "Does it have a background?"

Mu Yun nodded: "It was discovered by He Shan during a task, in a cavern within a deep abyss. At the time, the armor’s owner had already become a skeleton, presumably dead for a long time."

"Using armor and swords like that should belong to a powerhouse, but for some reason, they died in such a place. Based on the aura left on the bones, it was identified that the powerhouse was a Xiu Luo in life—a pure Xiu Luo, not a descendant," Mu Yun said solemnly.

"Xiu Luo?" Lin Tian was slightly surprised, not expecting the armor’s owner to be a Xiu Luo.

"Regretting not taking that armor and weaponry?" Mu Yun smiled.

Lin Tian smiled faintly and said, "Not really, I’m just wondering how a useless ring ended up among a Xiu Luo’s belongings."

Mu Yun froze momentarily, realizing she couldn’t keep up with Lin Tian’s thought process; this reminder made her curious too. But none of them could think of anything useful.

The group rode their horses onwards, this time without following Wangchuan River, instead taking the main road. Though it was much longer, it was more comfortable, at least for Xiao Manxuan, making the journey less grueling.

After a long trek, they finally returned to Fengdu City. However, Lin Tian stopped before the city gates without entering.

"Mu Yun Envoy, we won’t enter Fengdu City; we’ll part ways here," Lin Tian bowed in farewell, prepared to leave, as he didn’t wish to see Hei Xin’s obnoxious face.

Mu Yun understood Lin Tian’s sentiment, nodding: "Alright, you can ride the horses to the passageway; they’ll return on their own. Until we meet again."

Lin Tian smiled, understanding the sentiment behind "Until we meet again," since Mu Yun’s appearance in the human realm signifies death, meeting isn’t a good thing.

Xiao Manxuan and Zhang Lingyu also bid farewell to Mu Yun, turned their horses around, and galloped toward the opposite path of Fengdu City.

Crossing Naihe Bridge, passing Mengpo Pavilion, retracing Huangquan Road, they finally exited Ghost Gate. Thanks to He Shan’s token, they encountered no obstacles; although the token belonged to Blood Sea City, under the Netherworld system, no guards gave them trouble.

Relying on their memory, Lin Tian and the others arrived back at the passageway. The passage still stood in the Netherworld, with all nearby Ghost Messengers wiped out—an undeniable sign of arrogance.

The three dismounted, their warhorses neighed, just as Mu Yun said, they ran back on their own. Lin Tian stretched out his hand, pulling along the two women, and jumped into the passageway. After a swirling sensation, the three vanished.

In the City Lord’s Mansion of Fengdu City, Lord Zhu and Hei Xin watched the scene before them and, upon seeing Lin Tian and the others disappear, let out a big sigh of relief.

Lord Zhu looked down at Mu Yun, smiling and said, "Finally sent them off; your contribution is the greatest. If you have any requests, feel free to ask."

Mu Yun replied plainly: "No requests; since it’s all settled, I bid farewell."

With that, the First-class Impermanence left proudly, leaving Lord Zhu to raise his voice, "I heard Lin Tian greatly helped Blood Sea City; is this true?"

"Lord Zhu, you have well-informed sources, why ask what you already know?" Mu Yun did not pause, merely tossing this sentence over her shoulder, leaving Lord Zhu and Hei Xin looking at each other.

In the passageway, Lin Tian and the others felt dizzy, unsure how long it lasted until the flowing light disappeared, suddenly feeling solid ground beneath them, surrounded by the familiar cave—they had finally returned to the ancient altar.

Having experienced the strange people and events of the Netherworld, their return felt surreal, as if years had passed between worlds. Lin Tian even pondered whether the days spent in the Netherworld meant a millennium had passed in the human world, everything changing, mountains once seas.

"Xu Feibai is missing." Zhang Lingyu suddenly stated.
