Chapter 2114 - 2111: Confinement (Part 2)

Chapter 2114: Chapter 2111: Confinement (Part 2)

Such an important thing, yet the Sword Spirit gave a rather irresponsible answer: "I don’t know either. You Huaxia are more mysterious, powerful, and terrifying than the legends say, completely beyond my understanding, meaning Ancestor Xu has surpassed King Arthur."

"By the way, how did it feel when you fought against him?" the Sword Spirit asked Lin Tian in return.

"He can neutralize my full-force attack with minimal effort, always challenging beyond his level. Completely different from the last battle with Xu Feibai; that time, the difference between Xu Feibai and me was merely in quantity, but this time, it felt like a qualitative change."

"Moreover, there seems to be a force field around him, within which he seems able to do whatever he wants," Lin Tian said vaguely, unable to comprehend it.

"Do whatever he wants, now that’s truly terrifying," the Sword Spirit exclaimed.

Lin Tian closed his eyes slightly, his mind replaying the recent fight, then he said calmly: "Although it was frustrating, it wasn’t without gains. Witnessing a higher level of power, Qingyao’s ability to fly might be due to this kind of realm power, otherwise, we’d be like frogs at the bottom of a well."

"What should we do now? What is this place?" The Sword Spirit was somewhat dejected, preferring not to gain knowledge at the cost of imprisonment, having experienced the pain of that—a millennia of lonely confinement could drive one insane.

The surroundings were dark, but Lin Tian’s night vision ability allowed him to observe without difficulty.

He discovered this was a very large room, however, the walls were all made of Stone, and entirely a single piece. This situation could only be underground; a space dug out underground would have such stone walls.

As for how deep underground he was, Lin Tian couldn’t discern. Even using super sight, he couldn’t see where the ground was, so he might be at a depth lower than the sea level outside the island.

In a corner, there was a doorway, and the door was half-open.

"An exit?" Lin Tian wondered in his heart but still walked towards the doorway.

When he opened the door, it creaked shrilly as if it hadn’t been moved in a long time.

Outside the door was a horizontal corridor, with many such doorways, indicating there were many such rooms.

"Like a deserted dungeon..." Lin Tian said uncertainly.

"If it’s a dungeon, there should be an exit, master, quickly look for it," the Sword Spirit said excitedly.

Lin Tian remained calm, not holding out too much hope: "There should be an exit, but it’s definitely sealed. If they’re going to imprison us, how could they leave an exit?"

"No way, I just got out of the seal, and now I’m in a dungeon. Why is my life so miserable?" The Sword Spirit almost cried out, though there was more exaggeration than reality.

Lin Tian pursed his lips in disdain: "Don’t worry, we won’t die even if we don’t eat, so if we’re locked here for decades or centuries, the Xu Family might remember us."

"I don’t want to stay here even for a minute, I’m afraid of the dark," the Sword Spirit said plaintively.

Lin Tian raised a middle finger in contempt, no longer paying attention to it, and walked towards other doorways. The neighboring room also had a half-closed door, and inside was empty, one after another every room he checked was like this.

"Such a large dungeon, so many cells, and only imprisoning you, master, is quite an honor." Seeing Lin Tian ignoring him, the Sword Spirit instead stopped complaining and started rambling again.

"You’re wrong, I’m not the only one." Lin Tian stood in a doorway, looking at the corner of a room, where there lay a skeletal figure.

The skeleton sat against the wall, in a very proper posture, showing no signs of struggle before death, appearing calm and composed.

"It seems the Xu Family has imprisoned others besides us. This person seems to have been confined till death. Logically, a person who is imprisoned till death should be quite agitated before dying, yet he was so calm. Only two possibilities," Lin Tian analyzed the skeleton.

"What possibilities?" the Sword Spirit asked curiously.

"First, he was an expert himself, with his mindset cultivated to a certain realm of peace towards life and death." Lin Tian continued to analyze, feeling a touch of sadness, thinking that an expert spent the remainder of his life here, evoking sighs.

But this feeling merely brushed through his mind, so Lin Tian continued: "Second, he was locked up for a very, very long time, having gone through agitation, rebellion, hope, disappointment, despair, and finally so long that even despair vanished, turning into habit. This process could be a hundred years, a thousand years, then dying in the dungeon."

"A thousand years!" The Sword Spirit reacted as if its tail was stepped on, exclaiming: "I don’t want to stay a thousand years here, master, quickly smash the walls, maybe we can dig a passage, even if the island is large we can tunnel through."

"Dig through? Although I think it’s not a good idea, I still decided to try and see, to put your mind at ease." Lin Tian shook his head and again manifested the Heavenly Tribulation Sword.

With a single thought, the Heavenly Tribulation Sword enveloped in purple flame, then slashed towards the wall.

Bang...

Metal clashed loudly, sparks flying, Lin Tian felt a strong recoil in his hand, upon closer inspection, the area where he struck the wall remained unharmed, not even leaving a mark.

"How could this be? I don’t believe all the walls can withstand the Heavenly Tribulation Sword. Where would the Xu Family get so much high-quality material for such a large dungeon, even a thousand tons of Outer Heaven Meteorite isn’t enough," the Sword Spirit said incredulously.

Lin Tian didn’t refute but instead swung his sword around, piercing the walls with Sword Energy Cross, numerous sword shadows mixed with purple flames towards walls.

With his current strength, cutting through steel would be like slicing tofu, let alone using Sword Energy Cross, such a powerful Ancient Martial skill, however, slicing with "Sword Qi" on the wall, besides sparks flying, the stone walls remained unmoved.

"See clearly now, it’s not the quality of the wall material, but some power augmented on the walls, like the Underground Maze of Charlotte Island. The difference is, there it served as Houqing’s closed cultivation ground, here it’s where we’re closed in," Lin Tian said, retracting the Heavenly Tribulation Sword.

Closed cultivation and confinement, merely an inversion of words, yet with vastly different treatment.

"What should we do then?" the Sword Spirit said helplessly.

"Since we’re here, we should accept it, explore the dungeon first, maybe we’ll stumble upon some divine artifact left by predecessors, it won’t be a wasted journey then." Lin Tian was more open-minded, panic and complaint would only expedite one’s demise.

Leaving the room behind, Lin Tian continued down the corridor, simultaneously searching every room with super sight, discovering more skeletal remains later on.

However, none of them had the "divine artifacts" Lin Tian mentioned, making him curious about who these people were that were locked in the dungeon until death.

At the end of the corridor, Lin Tian discovered stairs leading downwards, evidently, the dungeon had more than one level. He moved down the stairs and indeed, the lower level had similar corridors.

But differently, this level only had one room, at the end of the corridor, and distinctly, this sole room was closed.
