Chapter 2115: Chapter 2112: Who Is Lying
The room was locked by a stone door; Lin Tian looked around and found no mechanism to open it.
"No mechanism?" Lin Tian frowned. This place ought to be a dungeon room, not an exit, thus the mechanism couldn’t possibly be inside.
"It could be a dragon-severing stone type of door, impossible to open once shut," Sword Spirit guessed.
"Is it holding someone important?" Lin Tian questioned, feeling puzzled, as all other dungeon doors were open except this one.
"Even if it holds someone important, it’s probably just a pile of bones now," Sword Spirit showed little concern, more interested in finding an exit.
Lin Tian reached out and knocked on the stone door, which was almost silent, indicating how heavy it was.
"Master, you could try a forceful break; the doors here seem pretty ordinary; otherwise, what’s the point of them all being open?" Sword Spirit suggested.
Lin Tian agreed; violent breaking was a common task anyway. He clenched his fist, preparing to unleash a "Meteor Burst" on the stone door.
Just as he gathered strength, the stone door suddenly shook, then slowly rose, leaving Lin Tian somewhat bewildered.
"Automatic sensor stone door?" Lin Tian wondered aloud but since it was open, there was no reason not to enter, even King Yan’s Hall must be explored.
Lin Tian bent down and walked through the stone door, finding another room, though much smaller than the others. His gaze swept the room and suddenly focused on a corner at the far end.
There was a person sitting in the corner. He said "person" because the figure wasn’t decayed like bone but had flesh.
"Another dead end," Sword Spirit lamented, indifferent to the presence of a corpse, seeing it no different from the bones in other rooms; one had flesh, the other didn’t.
Ignoring Sword Spirit, Lin Tian approached to closely examine the "corpse," clad in coarse fabric robes, face and hands skeletal, hair as long as a woman’s, hanging down back, all white.
Lin Tian was almost certain he was a man, due to the person’s large skeleton and a very distinct Adam’s apple; while some women have Adam’s apples, they are hardly visible due to higher estrogen levels.
Of course, some men have less pronounced Adam’s apples due to low testosterone levels, leading to less evident male features, typically described as more "effeminate" or "girly."
Another reason could be young boys not showing Adam’s apples; Lin Tian hadn’t judged Yun Xiaotian’s gender by this for the same reason, the kid being only fifteen or sixteen years old.
"Looks like he’s been dead a long time, but the body hasn’t decayed, possibly a Cultivator," Lin Tian deduced from the dust covering the person’s hair and robes.
In folklore, undecaying bodies are legendary, supposedly achievable by enlightened monks upon passing. Having dealt with Ancient Martial Artists, Lin Tian knew any Cultivator might leave an undecaying corpse.
"Who cares about decay, finding a way out is what matters, or Master will become one of them," Sword Spirit urged.
Lin Tian, merely curious about the miraculous undecayed corpse, got up ready to leave.
Whoosh...
A faint rush of air sounded in his ears, very subtle, but the dungeon’s silence and his acute hearing made it apparent.
"Why aren’t we leaving, Master?" Sword Spirit asked, puzzled.
"There’s a breathing sound!" Lin Tian frowned.
"Only you are here, don’t scare me, Master, I fear ghosts," Sword Spirit cautiously replied.
Lin Tian rolled his eyes and derided, "You’re a ghost-like Spiritual Body, essentially a ghost yourself, afraid of ghosts, so laughable. You were fearless in the Netherworld before."
"You don’t understand, Master; earthbound ghosts are the most frightening. Remember the red-clothed female ghost? I’m not strong enough to avoid her wrath," Sword Spirit sternly said.
Lin Tian blinked; perhaps Sword Spirit was right, earthbound ghosts typically being resentful spirits, potentially overpowering Sword Spirit.
While discussing supernatural matters with Sword Spirit, the airflow sounded again, breathing, faint and indistinct, wouldn’t be heard without Lin Tian’s sharp Spiritual sense.
Lin Tian whipped around, staring at the corner corpse, whose hair strands swayed at the nose’s edge, the motion increasing.
"Wow! He’s alive!" Lin Tian exclaimed in shock.
His Spiritual sense so acute yet mistook a living person for a corpse, how formidable must this old man be?
As if responding to Lin Tian’s call, the man slowly opened his eyes, hollow pupils gradually gathering light, becoming vibrant.
"Elder, you..." Lin Tian, full of wonder, intended to speak because his mind filled with questions – who are you, what’s your background, why are you here?
But the old man preemptively interrupted, asking, "What time is it now?"
Lin Tian stood startled; honestly, he didn’t know the time and took out his phone, glanced at it, then said, "Eight fifteen in the evening."
"Eight o’clock?" The old man also appeared befuddled, before his interest shifted to Lin Tian’s phone, "Warrior, what’s that glowing item?"
Warrior? What kind of address was that; Lin Tian was momentarily stunned but answered, "It’s a phone, tells time, makes calls, browses online, though no signal here."
The old man grew more puzzled but didn’t dwell long. He asked, "What year is it today?"
Lin Tian finally realized the issue - the old man wasn’t from modern times or this era; unfamiliar with phones, constantly asking about time.
Lin Tian didn’t respond but tentatively asked, "Elder, just who are you?"
"I am the National Guardian Wizard, Meng Luo," the old man earnestly replied.
National Guardian Wizard? Lin Tian frowned slightly, a brilliant thought flaring, remembering Ancestor Xu’s words - Emperor Shi had a National Guardian Wizard capable of eradicating zombies!
"You’re from Qin State?" Lin Tian asked in amazement.
"Certainly, Emperor Shi unified the Six States; there was only Qin State," the old man said proudly.
Oh my god, this old man is over two thousand years old! Lin Tian almost shouted aloud; suddenly a thought occurred, compelling him to inquire, "Elder, are you a zombie?"
"Yes and no; I consumed an elixir, realizing something was wrong; suppressed the zombie poison with magic, but the poison lingered, altering me, prolonging my life," the Great Wizard lamented.
"You also consumed an elixir, Elder?" Lin Tian squinted slightly; Ancestor Xu claimed he fled overseas to avoid the Great Wizard and other experts. Yet, the Great Wizard said he consumed an elixir too—who’s lying?
