Chapter 2116: Chapter 2113: Good Luck? Bad Luck?
"Of course, if it weren’t for consuming the elixir, how could I have lived so long as a mere mortal?" Mengluo Great Wizard frowned, unsure of Lin Tian’s intention behind the question.
Lin Tian didn’t beat around the bush and said directly, "I was just imprisoned by Ancestor Xu. According to him, he left Qin State and went overseas to avoid you and other experts. Now that you are imprisoned here, one of you must be lying."
"He said that?" Mengluo Great Wizard hesitated as if lost in thought, then suddenly laughed: "So that’s how it is."
"What do you mean?" Lin Tian asked curiously. Could the old man have gone insane from captivity? Yet he was still laughing.
Mengluo Great Wizard looked at Lin Tian, seemingly able to read his mind: "Are you thinking I’ve gone insane? It’s not your fault for thinking so, as the dungeon is nearly isolated from the world, unaware of the passage of time."
"Initially, I kept track of the days, but later I gave up. It’s been too long, really too long."
"Ancestor Xu didn’t fully lie; it was partly true and partly false. He left Qin State and went overseas indeed to escape those experts."
"But before leaving, he captured me. It was my fault for being careless and falling into his trap, becoming his prisoner," Mengluo Great Wizard said softly, his gaze seeming to pierce through time back to those days.
"Why did he capture you?" Lin Tian asked.
Mengluo Great Wizard glanced upwards, as if locking eyes with someone: "Because I know a great secret of Qin State. He wanted to obtain this secret."
A secret? Lin Tian’s eyes flashed with interest but didn’t ask what secret it was. Since even Ancestor Xu wanted it, it must be significant. Asking wouldn’t get him an answer.
Mengluo Great Wizard noticed Lin Tian didn’t ask, seemed slightly surprised, then smiled appreciatively: "After capturing me, he hid me among the fleet and transported me out of Qin State to a new continent."
"He created this dungeon and imprisoned me, frequently demanding that secret, using every method. However, he got nothing. Afraid I might die prematurely, he even had me consume the elixir, leaving me neither fully human nor fully zombie."
"Unable to get the secret, his visits to the dungeon gradually decreased, eventually never appearing, but he never released me, keeping me imprisoned until now. I haven’t seen him since," Mengluo Great Wizard said calmly, as if the process was straightforward.
Yet Lin Tian could guess Mengluo endured countless threats and inducements, whether physical or mental. It’s fortunate he was a Great Wizard; an ordinary person might have surrendered long ago.
"Are you wondering how they threatened me? Indeed there were many threats, but I voluntarily consumed the elixir," Mengluo seemingly read Lin Tian’s mind again and revealed something unexpected.
Lin Tian’s eyes flashed with confusion, asking in bewilderment, "Why?"
"Because I must live until I pass this secret to someone else, I cannot take the secret to the grave," Mengluo’s eyes fixed on Lin Tian, seemingly evaluating or planning something before saying, "You are the person I’m searching for."
"Me?" Lin Tian was taken aback, surprised: "We’re strangers, how could it be me? Besides, aren’t you afraid I’m a spy sent by the Xu Family to uncover that so-called secret?"
"Spy?" Mengluo Great Wizard froze, his face puzzled: "What’s a spy? Brave warrior, your words are strange; you don’t seem to be from Da Qin."
While claiming to be Da Qin people, I’m actually Huaxia, Lin Tian thought with a black line across his face, feeling speechless.
"Well... a spy means a secret agent, spy," Lin Tian searched for an ancient term, barely coming up with this explanation.
Mengluo Great Wizard realized, nodding: "I see now. I can confirm you’re certainly not a spy. From you, I sensed the aura of the altar."
"Altar? What altar?" Lin Tian was once again confused by Mengluo’s words.
"Surely you’ve been to the altar and even activated it. But you didn’t die, which means the altar acknowledged you, proving you weren’t a Xu Family spy," Mengluo Great Wizard said with certainty.
Lin Tian’s mind recalled the ancient altar. When he activated the Netherworld passage, the altar released an energy that instantly killed the Ghost Wolf Yaksha, which could have killed him too.
"Do you recall?" Mengluo Great Wizard saw through Lin Tian’s thoughts again, laughing: "Now you believe my words; it was the altar’s aura that awakened me."
"The altar indeed holds a secret." Of course, Lin Tian believed him because the ancient altar was shrouded in mystery, and the strange energy instantly killed the Ghost Wolf Yaksha. Even Fengdu City’s City Lord feared it, so claiming it had no secret was unbelievable.
Mengluo Great Wizard didn’t immediately respond but stretched out his hands with a peculiar gesture, forming a ball of white light in his palm. As the light gradually dissipated, an object appeared—a thing resembling an ancient Jade Seal.
"What is this?" Lin Tian was curious about the type of Jade Seal.
"This is the Qin State Jade Seal." Mengluo held it with both hands, treating it with solemnity and reverence—not towards Lin Tian, but towards the Jade Seal.
Lin Tian was startled, then thrilled: "Is this the Imperial Jade Seal made from He Shi Bi?"
"Correct, the Jade Seal is indeed made from He Shi Bi," Mengluo Great Wizard confirmed Lin Tian’s statement.
"But wait, wasn’t the Imperial Jade Seal lost?" Lin Tian was deeply puzzled.
Mengluo Great Wizard frowned, seemingly displeased: "The Jade Seal is in my hand, how could it be lost?" He flipped the seal to show Lin Tian the bottom side.
On the bottom were engraved eight characters in Qin Dynasty script, which Lin Tian barely recognized: "Mandated by Heaven, Eternal Prosperity."
As for authenticity, Lin Tian truly couldn’t discern it.
Mengluo Great Wizard didn’t dwell on this issue but continued: "For generations, Qin State’s Great Wizards have guarded a secret, sealed within He Shi Bi, protected by our lineage."
"Now, I pass the Jade Seal along with the secret to you," Mengluo Great Wizard solemnly offered the Jade Seal to Lin Tian.
Lin Tian didn’t accept it, but rather frowned: "Firstly, I’m not a Great Wizard of past generations. Secondly, if I take the Jade Seal, shouldn’t I at least know what secret it contains?"
"I don’t know either," Mengluo Great Wizard responded bluntly.
Wow, Lin Tian almost cursed, thinking, "You don’t know what you’re guarding with such dedication! Making it all seem so grave."
Suddenly vigilant, Lin Tian wondered if he was being manipulated by the old man. Ancestor Xu spoke half-truths; Mengluo Great Wizard could possibly be doing the same.
Back in the Netherworld’s Ksitigarbha Hall, he inexplicably received the Ksitigarbha Order. Today in the dungeon, he’s inexplicably given the Imperial Jade Seal. Who knows if it’s good luck or bad luck.
