10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 39: Birthday [5]Daniel Edinburgh and Annette walked toward Amon, who immediately straightened his posture.
The old man had an awkward look on his face, remembering their past.
Annette, however, seemed much more relaxed.
She smiled warmly at him. "We meet again."
Amon looked at her for several seconds before his expression became confused.
He didn’t understand what she was doing with the old man. "I’m sorry... who exactly are you?"
Annette blinked for a moment before she laughed softly.
"Right, we didn’t properly introduce ourselves earlier." She placed one hand lightly against her chest. "I’m Annette Edinburgh, the wife of Duke Edinburgh."
"..."
Amon remained completely silent as his brain needed several seconds to process that information.
’...Why were you so friendly with me before?’
Annette looked at him with an amused smile. "Why did you do that again?"
Amon frowned. "Do what?"
She tilted her head slightly. "The knife."
Amon’s expression immediately became awkward. "Oh... that."
Annette smiled, her glossy lips made her even more beautiful.
"What was so special about that knife, Amon?" She asked. "Do you know how easy it was to find you after the stunt you pulled?"
Daniel let out a small, awkward chuckle. "If you had simply asked me nicely, I would’ve given you the knife."
Amon looked toward the old man. "You would’ve?"
"Of course." Daniel’s expression turned grim. "...But you have to lie about my condition and my daughter’s well-being."
Before Amon could respond, Felicia suddenly stepped forward.
She held the short sword in her hand before extending it toward him.
"Here."
Amon looked at the weapon before looking at Felicia in confusion.
Daniel and Annette also looked surprised.
Felicia ignored their expressions.
"I think this boy might actually be the real deal." She glanced toward Amon. "Tell us the actual value of this sword."
Amon hesitated before taking the weapon.
The moment his fingers touched the hilt, Merchant’s Divine Insight activated.
Information immediately appeared in his vision.
---
[Weapon: Frostmoon Blade]
[Grade: Mythic]
[Material: Eternal Frost Ore]
[Actual Value: 87,000 Gold Coins]
[Additional Information: Heirloom weapon of the Vale Family.]
[Special Property: Extremely high mana conductivity.]
---
Amon’s eyebrows rose slightly. ’Mythic grade, goddamn...’
He slowly examined the blade before looking toward Felicia.
"This sword is worth around eighty-seven thousand gold coins."
The expressions of Daniel and Annette immediately changed.
Amon continued in a thoughtful tone. "It’s made from Eternal Frost Ore, which explains its extremely high mana conductivity."
He glanced toward the blade again. "It’s also an heirloom of the Vale family."
Silence filled the room. Daniel looked at the sword before looking at Amon.
Annette’s expression showed genuine surprise.
Even Felicia’s eyes narrowed slightly, although she didn’t appear particularly shocked.
She calmly took the sword back. "Accurate."
Amon released a quiet breath.
He had originally intended to keep his abilities hidden, but things had already gone too far.
’I might as well tell them.’ Amon looked toward Annette. "There is something I need to clarify."
Annette waited patiently, her eyes on him.
"The knife... It really was important to me." He paused before looking directly at Annette. "And I might actually be able to help your daughter."
Annette’s expression turned blank as her previous relaxed demeanor disappeared.
"You..." She took a small step forward. "Are you saying you can save her?"
Amon didn’t answer immediately. He quietly called out inside his mind.
’System.’
The familiar interface appeared.
Amon silently asked the question, and the response appeared almost immediately.
---
[System Analysis.]
[Target: Annette’s Daughter.]
[Current Condition: Severe.]
[Potential Treatment: Available.]
[Requirement: Target must become a registered wife.]
[Estimated Recovery: Possible over time.]
---
Amon’s expression became complicated. ’So it’s possible.’
He looked toward Annette and nodded slowly. "I wouldn’t say it if I wasn’t confident."
Annette stared at him. "You really think you can help her?"
Amon nodded confidently. "I might not be able to cure her immediately, but I believe I can eventually."
Felicia stepped forward before Annette could respond. "I believe him."
Both Daniel and Annette looked toward her.
Felicia continued calmly. "He is reckless, occasionally stupid, and apparently incapable of thinking before speaking."
Amon’s eyebrow twitched.
"But he’s not someone who would make a claim like this without having something to support it."
Annette remained silent. Her eyes slowly became wet as she stepped toward Amon.
She gently reached out and clasped his hand between both of hers.
"If you really can save my daughter..." Her voice trembled slightly. "I’ll treat you like my own son."
"Uh?"
She smiled through the emotion in her eyes. "I’ll give you all the love I can."
Amon froze for a moment.
She was standing much closer than he expected, and the warmth of her hands around his made him slightly uncomfortable.
Before he could say anything, Felicia suddenly grabbed his shoulder and pulled him away.
"That’s enough."
Amon stumbled slightly while Felicia looked toward Daniel and Annette.
"I’ll take Amon to see your daughter myself." She then glanced toward the hallway. "You two should get some rest. It’s already late."
Daniel nodded. "Very well."
Annette reluctantly released Amon’s hand.
She smiled warmly at him before walking away beside Daniel. "Goodnight, Amon."
Amon raised his hand. "Goodnight."
Annette waved at him as she disappeared down the hallway.
Felicia watched them leave before looking toward Amon.
"Don’t get any strange ideas about Annette." She warned. "Annette has always been clingy."
Amon looked toward her curiously. "You’ve known her for a long time?"
Felicia nodded. "Since childhood."
"..Huh, someone like you can also have friends."
Felicia gave him a strange look, but Amon had already started walking toward the door.
He reached the doorway before Felicia suddenly called his name.
"Amon."
He stopped and turned around toward Felicia, who was standing beside her desk again.
The short sword was back in her hand, and she was slowly sharpening it.
Scrape. Scrape.
Amon’s expression immediately became nervous.
Felicia looked directly at him.
"If I ever see my daughter walking strangely..." She smiled gently. "...I’ll really chop it off."
Amon swallowed hard. "Understood."
He slowly closed the door.
Click.
The moment the door shut, Amon’s polite expression disappeared.
He walked down the hallway with a completely different look on his face.
’That woman really thinks she can threaten me like that.’ Amon’s lips curled into a smug smile.
’...Fuck, I will just make her daughter pay for her sins.’
He had only taken a few more steps when another System notification suddenly appeared.
---
[New Wife Candidate Detected.]
[Target: Felicia Vale.]
[Would you like to register Felicia Vale as a potential wife candidate?]
[Yes / No]
---
Amon stopped walking, and his smug expression completely disappeared.
"..."
He stared at the notification for several seconds.
’System...’
Amon didn’t know what to say for a long time.
