10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 40: Physical MoneyThe next morning, Amon walked out of the shower while drying his hair with a towel.
The warmth of the bathroom still clung to his skin as he walked toward the kitchen, and the smell of freshly cooked food immediately reached his nose.
He entered the kitchen and found Ambrosia standing beside the stove.
She was wearing a simple loose shirt with comfortable pants, her long hair tied into a casual ponytail as she moved between the counter and the stove.
Despite her relaxed appearance, there was a noticeable tiredness around her eyes.
Amon smiled slightly. "Are you free today?"
Ambrosia glanced over her shoulder before returning her attention to the food.
"Free?" She gave a tired laugh. "I have more work than ever right now."
Amon’s smile faded slightly. "Did something happen?"
Ambrosia stirred the food before answering. "There have been several new cases involving dungeon outbreaks."
Amon stopped walking, giving her a confused look.
"Huh?" He mumbled. "But I never heard about any outbreaks."
Ambrosia sighed. "That’s because the Royal Family and the Adventure Bureau are actively suppressing the news."
Amon’s expression became strange. "Why?"
"They don’t want people panicking." She paused before adding, "And they especially don’t want everyone asking questions about why newly formed dungeons are becoming unstable."
Amon remained silent for a while. ’So it’s happening more often than they’re admitting.’
The information immediately reminded him of the dungeon in Rove.
The strange monsters, the abnormal environment, and the unknown energy signature all suddenly seemed more important than before.
Amon walked farther into the kitchen and picked up a knife. "I’ll help."
Ambrosia looked at him for a moment before smiling. "Since when did you become so helpful?"
"Since I realized you’re terrible at taking care of yourself."
"Hehe~."
Amon began cutting the vegetables while Ambrosia continued preparing the main dish.
For several minutes, they worked together in comfortable silence.
Eventually, Amon glanced toward her. "Can you really keep doing this for so long?"
Ambrosia raised an eyebrow. "Doing what?"
"Working like this." Amon gestured toward her tired expression. "You’re getting old, you know."
Ambrosia immediately stopped what she was doing. "I’m not old."
Amon shrugged in response. "Don’t flatter yourself, my lady, you are old."
"I’m still young." Ambrosia narrowed her eyes at him. "I’ll have you know that I was one of the best students in my entire college in terms of physical strength."
Amon chuckled, shaking his head.
"Yeah, I know." He shook his head while continuing to cut the vegetables. "You were the best in your class. You must have told me that story at least a hundred times by now."
Ambrosia smiled proudly. "Because it’s an achievement worth remembering."
"What a narcissistic thing to say."
She lightly slapped his shoulder. "Watch your mouth."
Amon laughed before returning his attention to the food.
Ambrosia eventually sighed. "I think I need a new house."
Amon looked at her. "A new house?"
"Somewhere quiet." She stared toward the kitchen window. "Maybe somewhere near a forest where I can actually relax after work."
Amon nodded thoughtfully.
"That sounds nice." He paused before looking at her. "But you can also stop working so much for so little money."
Ambrosia’s expression became slightly serious. "You know that’s not why I do it."
Amon knew what she meant.
Ambrosia was a public attorney, and much of her work involved helping people who had lost their homes, property, or family members because of dungeon formations.
The problem was that dungeon disasters weren’t considered ordinary accidents.
Because they weren’t directly caused by another person, the Adventure Bureau, wealthy nobles, and even corporations often tried to avoid paying compensation.
That was where people like Ambrosia came in.
She fought through the bureaucracy and legal loopholes to make sure the victims received something.
Ambrosia lowered her voice. "If I don’t do my job, those people won’t have anyone fighting for them."
Amon looked at her quietly. "And if you keep doing this, you’ll eventually burn yourself out."
Ambrosia smiled gently.
"Maybe." She returned her attention to the stove. "But I’m not the only good person in the world."
Ambrosia looked at him with a gentle smile on her face. "There are other lawyers, organizations, and people willing to help."
"But all I see is you... working yourself to death." Amon replied with a distasteful tone in his voice.
Ambrosia smiled and gently messed his hair. "You don’t have to worry about me carrying the entire world on my shoulders."
Amon remained silent because it wasn’t for him to decide when she should quit.
She suddenly changed the subject. "Actually, I received an emergency outbreak case yesterday."
Amon immediately became interested. "What happened?"
Ambrosia’s expression became more serious. "It was caused by the Cordo family."
Amon’s hands stopped moving.
He immediately remembered the name.
They were the same family that had attempted to trap Felicia in that disastrous business deal.
"What did they do?" He asked, his interest peaking even more.
Ambrosia mumbled. "They sold illegal weapons to a group of rogue adventurers."
She placed the lid over the pot before continuing.
"Those weapons were unstable and eventually caused a dungeon-related incident. Several people died, and dozens more were injured."
Amon’s expression became blank as he mumbled. "That’s fucked up."
"It gets worse." Ambrosia sighed. "They offered me gold coins to drop the case."
Amon placed the chopped vegetables into a bowl.
He knew her job was much more dangerous than she showed his family.
The reason nobles like physical gold so much is because it’s much harder to trace than digital money.
They can move it around, hide it, or hand it to someone without leaving the same kind of financial trail.
Amon sighed as he whispered softly. "Just be careful."
Ambrosia smiled gently. "I will."
They finished preparing the food, and Amon helped Ambrosia place everything on the stove.
Once he was done, he wiped his hands and walked toward his room. "I need to get ready for academy."
Ambrosia smiled. "Don’t be late."
"I won’t."
Amon entered his room and closed the door behind him.
Instead of immediately getting dressed, however, he sat down on the edge of his bed.
He reached into the drawer beside him and pulled out a notebook and a pen.
For several seconds, Amon simply stared at the blank page before he wrote a single word at the top.
Goals.
He paused before moving the pen to the next line.
Buy a new house.
Amon stared at the sentence for a moment before leaning back slightly.
"Yeah."
His eyes wandered as he thought about the small apartment they were currently living in.
’If I’m going to keep getting stronger, I’ll need a proper place to rest.’
His decision had no outside influence whatsoever... Well, that’s what he thought.
