10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 68: Curing the Duke’s daughterAmon looked at Ragnar before glancing toward Annette, who was standing a few steps behind him with a worried expression.
"Can I talk with the two of you alone?"
Ragnar’s eyes narrowed, clearly suspicious of whatever Amon was about to say.
Annette gently touched his arm before giving Amon a small nod. "Of course."
The three of them stepped away from the door, while Felicia remained nearby and watched them with a curious expression.
However, the moment she noticed the blood dripping from Amon’s hand, her eyes immediately narrowed.
"What happened to your hand?"
Amon looked down at his palm and realized that he had completely forgotten about the wound.
"It’s nothing." He quickly closed his fingers. "Just an accident."
Felicia stared at him for a few seconds. "I don’t believe you."
She walked over and grabbed his injured hand before he could pull it away.
A faint blue glow appeared around her fingers as frost spread across the wound, freezing the area around it and stopping the bleeding almost instantly.
Amon looked at his palm before glancing toward her. "Thanks."
Felicia released his hand and gave him a suspicious look. "Don’t do anything stupid."
Amon gave her a small smile before turning toward Ragnar and Annette.
The three of them walked through the hallway until they reached an open balcony overlooking the palace gardens.
A cool morning breeze passed through the area, carrying the scent of flowers from below.
Amon stopped near the railing and turned toward the two worried parents. "There is something wrong with your daughter."
Ragnar’s expression immediately became serious. "What?"
Amon took a slow breath before choosing his words carefully.
"You do know that my eyes are special. They can see things others can’t." He said softly. "And I see Nadya suffering from something called Spirit Distortion."
Annette’s eyes widened. "Is that dangerous?"
"Very." Amon rested his hands against the railing while continuing. "It’s a type of disease that can begin affecting someone at a young age and slowly become worse as they grow older."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"It doesn’t necessarily cause obvious symptoms at first, which is why people can live with it for years without realizing how serious the condition actually is."
Amon had already asked Nadya about the strange things she had been experiencing since childhood, and he used those details to make his explanation sound believable.
"The constant nightmares and the way she talks about vivid dreams that feel too real..." Amon looked toward them. "At first, it seemed harmless, but it’s actually one of the symptoms of Spirit Distortion."
Annette’s hands slowly tightened around the fabric of her dress. "So this has been happening since she was a child?"
Amon nodded. "Yes."
Ragnar’s jaw tightened. "And it’s going to get worse?"
Amon didn’t immediately answer.
That brief silence was enough to make both of them understand that the answer wasn’t good.
"If it’s left unchecked, eventually her spirit will become too damaged for her body to recover."
Ragnar’s expression became increasingly grim. "How long?"
Amon looked directly into his eyes. "With her current condition, she has about a year left."
Neither Ragnar nor Annette spoke.
The garden below them continued to move peacefully in the morning breeze, completely at odds with the devastating news they had just received.
They had spent years trying to find someone who could identify what was wrong with Nadya, only to finally discover the truth they had been desperately searching for.
And now that they knew, they couldn’t even handle it.
Annette’s eyes became wet. "Only... a year?"
Amon nodded slowly. "That’s the current estimate."
Ragnar lowered his head, his hands tightening into fists.
The intimidating Duke looked genuinely helpless.
Annette wiped the corner of her eye before looking at Amon. "Is there a way to save her?"
"There is."
Both of them immediately looked at him.
Amon continued. "I gave Nadya an Azure Spirit Stone."
Annette’s eyes widened slightly.
"It won’t completely cure the problem, but it should reduce the pain and ease the burden on her spirit."
Ragnar looked toward him. "Isn’t anything related to Spirit extremely expensive?"
Amon nodded.
"Yes." He shrugged slightly. "I was lucky enough to obtain one."
Ragnar remained silent for several seconds before asking, "Then what does she need to actually recover?"
Amon’s expression became serious again. "Someone proficient in Spirit cultivation."
Ragnar let out a long sigh. "That’s going to be difficult."
Amon didn’t immediately respond.
He allowed several seconds of silence to pass before finally speaking.
"I can help her."
Ragnar’s head immediately snapped toward him. "You?"
Amon nodded. "I need about a week."
Annette stared at him with surprise. "You said you needed someone proficient in Spirit cultivation."
"I do." Amon placed one hand against his forehead. "My Spirit affinity is stronger than you might expect."
He kept his expression calm while speaking.
"I just need a few days to practice and understand how to properly use it before I can begin treating her."
It was a risky statement.
Amon had no idea whether a week would actually be enough, but the System had already confirmed that Nadya could be treated.
That meant there had to be some method available to him.
Annette immediately walked forward and took both of his hands. "Then we’ll help you with anything you need."
Her eyes were filled with desperation. "I don’t care about the cost, the resources, or how difficult it is, as long as my daughter can be safe."
Amon looked at her sincere expression and nodded. "I’ll do my best."
Ragnar remained silent for a while.
The anger that had filled his eyes earlier was gone, replaced by something much heavier.
He slowly walked toward Amon and stopped directly in front of him.
The Duke took a deep breath before speaking. "I’ll help you with anything you need and I will also try to find one of the spirit masters as well."
His voice was firm. "As long as you save my daughter, I’ll make sure you have whatever resources are necessary."
Amon smiled and nodded. "I appreciate that."
Ragnar placed a hand on his shoulder. "Then don’t disappoint me."
Amon looked into the Duke’s eyes before nodding again. "I won’t."
The two eventually walked back toward Nadya’s room.
Amon followed behind them with a calm expression, but his thoughts were far less relaxed.
’This girl is dangerous.’
He had already seen how quickly she attacked him when he discovered her secret.
He was almost certain that she would try to kill him again if she thought he was becoming a threat.
’She knows that I know about her memories.’
Amon’s eyes narrowed slightly.
On the surface, she might have accepted his plan simply so he would keep quiet and not reveal her real identity.
That was the real problem.
As soon as she regained her strength, she might try to kill him again.
The Duke and his wife believed that he was going to save their daughter.
But Nadya didn’t need to be saved in the way they thought she did.
She must have had her own plans for dealing with her condition.
’If she’s really someone who came back from the future, then she probably knows things that could completely change my plans.’
Amon silently followed the couple down the hallway.
’And if she thinks killing me is the easiest way to protect her secret...’ His fingers slowly tightened. ’Then I need to be very careful around her.’
Still, there was no denying that Amon was more than curious about the girl.
’...What kind of future did she experience, and how did she come back?’
