10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger
Chapter 80: Aftermath and Edmund CordoThe hospital was unusually quiet in the afternoon. The smell of medicine filled the white corridor.
Inside one of the private rooms, Ambrosia lay unconscious on the hospital bed.
Several thin tubes were connected to her arm.
A small magical device hovered above her chest, steadily monitoring her breathing and heartbeat.
Her face looked peaceful despite everything that had happened, with only the faint paleness of her skin revealing that something was wrong.
Outside the room, Amon sat on a bench with an ice pack pressed against the side of his face.
His leg kept moving up and down without him realizing it.
He had already spent nearly an hour sitting there, but his mind refused to settle.
’Those bastards fucking kidnapped her in broad daylight.’ Amon tightened his grip around the ice pack. ’If I had been even a few seconds slower...’
He didn’t allow himself to finish the thought.
Suddenly, something cold touched the other side of his face.
Amon opened his eyes and turned his head.
Richard was standing beside him, holding a cold drink against his cheek. "Want some?"
Amon stared at the drink before taking it. "Much appreciated."
Richard sat down beside him and leaned back against the wall.
For a few moments, neither of them spoke before Richard glanced toward the hospital room.
"After your potential came out, I checked your background."
Amon looked at him.
Richard continued while looking through the glass window. "Your mother is doing a noble job. Rarely are people willing to put themselves in danger to protect others."
Amon looked toward Ambrosia. "What’s the point of doing something noble if it gets her killed?"
Richard remained silent as he opened his own drink and took a sip.
"Everything in this world comes with a risk." He lowered the bottle. "You just have to know what you’re willing to risk your life for."
Amon stared at the floor while slowly drinking the cold beverage.
Richard eventually broke the silence again. "By the way, I contacted the insurance company about your bike."
Amon raised an eyebrow. "You did?"
"I asked them to arrange a replacement."
Amon chuckled. "I wasn’t planning to buy another one if they rejected the claim."
Richard smiled. "They’re going to pay."
Amon looked at him suspiciously. "How did you manage that?"
Richard shrugged. "I did some backhand work."
Amon stared at him for a moment before he chuckled quietly. "Thanks."
Richard nodded his head. "Don’t worry."
Amon’s smile disappeared shortly afterward as he looked through the glass again.
Richard noticed the change in his expression. "You got lucky."
Amon looked at him.
"The people they sent were all relatively low-ranking. The strongest among them was only Rank Ten."
Amon nodded slowly. He knew he would have had a hard time if there was someone much stronger than him.
Those men weren’t particularly strong, but they were efficient.
They managed to use a small enough dose of poison that it wouldn’t immediately kill her, and even prepared a second vehicle to throw Amon off.
Amon looked toward Ambrosia. "They were weak, but they knew exactly what they were doing."
Richard nodded. "Which is why I’m asking you this."
He turned toward Amon.
"Was it the Cordo family?"
Amon didn’t answer as he looked down at the bottle in his hand before finally nodding. "They’re the only ones low enough to do something like this."
"You would be surprised to know how many more are there like them." Richard mumbled softly. "And what are you planning to do now?"
Amon looked at him with a strange expression. "What do you mean?"
Richard studied his face. "Are you thinking about annihilating the entire Cordo family because they touched your mother?"
Amon gave a short laugh. "I don’t have the strength to do something like that."
Richard’s expression didn’t change. "What if you had the strength?"
Amon’s smile disappeared as he looked through the glass toward Ambrosia.
The corridor suddenly felt much quieter.
"You can’t fight the Cordo family in a frontal war." Richard eventually spoke. "You’ll lose your life before you accomplish anything."
"Then what am I supposed to do?"
Richard leaned forward. "Isn’t the college screening coming soon?"
Amon blinked. "Yeah."
"Then show them your potential."
Amon frowned. "How would that help?"
Richard looked directly into his eyes. "If you want to keep the people you love safe, you need to put fear into everyone’s heart."
Amon remained silent.
Richard continued in a calm voice. "Not fear of you personally, but fear of what will happen if someone touches your family."
He pointed toward the hospital room. "You need the world to know that if they mess with someone under your protection, they’re not messing with some ordinary student."
Richard’s expression became serious. "They’re messing with an upcoming A-Rank adventurer."
Amon stared at him without any response.
The idea slowly settled into his mind.
He didn’t like the thought of becoming famous.
In fact, the last thing he wanted was for every powerful person in the kingdom to start paying attention to him.
But if becoming known could keep Ambrosia and his wives safe, then perhaps it was worth the trouble.
"I’ll think about it."
Richard nodded. "That’s all I’m asking."
Before Amon could say anything else, hurried footsteps echoed through the corridor.
A group of soldiers appeared at the end of the hallway, and Sidney was with them.
The moment she saw the hospital room, her expression became grave.
"Mother!" She immediately rushed toward the door.
Amon and Richard stood up.
Richard stepped closer and quietly spoke beside Amon. "Let me do the talking."
Amon nodded.
The hospital corridor quickly became crowded.

Meanwhile, far away from the hospital, the Cordo family mansion stood behind enormous golden gates.
The Cordo family had been one of the most influential merchant families in the kingdom for generations.
Their businesses stretched across several cities, with interests ranging from magical equipment and transportation to construction and dungeon supplies.
They had accumulated an enormous fortune over the years.
However, their reputation was far less impressive.
The Cordos were known for being ruthless businessmen who rarely allowed anyone to interfere with their interests.
People who challenged them often found themselves facing financial pressure, ruined reputations, or unexplained accidents.
The mansion itself reflected the family’s nature.
It was enormous, surrounded by dark stone walls and guarded by several armed men.
Inside one of the offices, an old man sat behind a large wooden desk.
His name was Edmund Cordo.
Edmund was nearly seventy years old, with pale skin, thinning gray hair, and a neatly trimmed white beard.
His body had grown thinner with age, but his sharp gray eyes remained as cold as ever.
He had spent decades building the Cordo family into what it was.
Edmund was not a man who raised his voice when angry.
People who had worked under him for years knew that the quieter he became, the worse the consequences would be.
The office door opened. Joseph Cordo entered with a grim expression.
The old man looked up from his documents. "How did it go?"
Joseph hesitated. "The plan failed."
Edmund’s expression remained unchanged. "How?"
Joseph walked toward the desk and placed a document in front of him. "Amon."
Edmund looked down at the file.
Joseph continued. "The boy followed the vehicles after the kidnapping. He managed to overpower the people we sent and rescued her."
Edmund slowly turned the first page.
A photograph of Amon was attached to it. His eyes moved across the information.
The old man remained silent for several seconds. He leaned back in his chair.
"So this is the boy."
Joseph nodded. "Yes."
Edmund’s fingers tapped lightly against the desk. "If he’s Felicia’s daughter’s boyfriend, then he must have something good on him."
Joseph frowned. "What should we do with him?"
Edmund looked at the photograph again, but there was no anger in his expression.
"What else?" His voice was quiet. "We nip the bud before the flower blooms."
