A Bug In Fate

Chapter 82: The Inter-City Tournament (03)

The time had finally come as the participants were called out to the centre of the arena. They were all wearing blue bracelets, with some kind of runic language engraved on them along with small, intricate details.

The woman with enthusiastic energy looked toward them before smiling at the crowd. She gestured toward the participants while facing the spectators.

"As you can see, there are a total of 133 participants here, but we only need one winner..." She paused for a moment.

"So, what do we do?"

Without waiting for the crowd to guess, she continued with a grin.

"Obviously, we have to reduce the number."

Some participants flinched slightly at her words, even though they already knew it was inevitable.

"Oh, I forgot an important thing to explain... Those bracelets on their hands are there for their protection. They will be activated the moment someone is about to get seriously injured, and the participant will be teleported to a safe corner. So, you guys don’t have to worry about anyone getting killed." She said with a smile.

People didn’t react much to it, as it was a commonly used method in tournaments and friendly duels. City tournaments had been happening for a long time, so there was no way someone hadn’t considered something like this.

Seeing people nod, the host of the tournament continued.

"The moment the bracelet is activated, the participant will be automatically eliminated"

Her eyes shifted toward the participants.

Some were nervous, while some of them looked calm. And then there was one who looked completely relaxed, as if he were on his way to buy groceries instead of participating in a major tournament.

Her gaze lingered on him for a moment before she continued.

"So, I advise the young cultivators—and possibly one of my juniors—to pay attention to their bracelets, as destroying your opponent’s bracelet is the best strategy for this tournament."

She warned them while narrowing her eyes at the blue-haired individual, who simply looked back at her and smiled.

What the fuck... I already dislike him, but he is handsome though.

Her thoughts became even more complicated.

She shook her head, and her enthusiastic energy returned as she looked at the crowd. A grin formed on her face.

"Now... the time has come to start this entertainm—tournament."

The crowd chuckled at her words, and the atmosphere around them became even more hyped as the real deal was finally about to begin.

"For the first round... you simply have to fight each other until there are only ten of you," she stated, her gaze following the participants.

The atmosphere around them was already filled with tension, but it was brought to the next level as they registered her words.

"I actually saw this coming," a man chuckled, even though his hands were trembling from adrenaline.

"She definitely was about to say that we are entertainment," a woman smiled.

Meanwhile, Liam and Mina remained calm, even though their eyes were still looking for something. Their grips on their weapons tightened as they looked ahead at the host.

They weren’t the only ones searching for something. Lucas, with his daggers already in hand, also narrowed his eyes as he glanced toward the entrance from time to time.

Marcus’s eyes were brimming with excitement, and a huge grin was plastered across his face.

Beside him, two men who looked identical looked at each other, and a light of determination flashed through their eyes. Both were holding spears in their hands.

Behind them, a young lady with green hair took out her bow as she smiled while looking in a certain direction.

Meanwhile, one odd figure stood out among them.

A young man with blue hair was simply standing there without a weapon. His clothes were casual, just like his behaviour.

He looked as if he had somehow ended up in the wrong place.

There was no trace of nervousness on his face, nor did he seem excited like Marcus. He simply stood there with his hands relaxed at his sides, completely ignoring the tension surrounding him.

Some participants glanced at him from time to time, unable to understand how someone could remain so relaxed at a moment like this.

The difference between him and the others was almost comical.

While most participants were checking their weapons and preparing their mana, he looked as though he had all the time in the world.

Even the host couldn’t help but glance toward him once again, though she quickly shifted her attention back to the other participants.

The tension continued to spread through the arena as everyone slowly prepared themselves.

Some participants exchanged nervous glances, while others looked at their opponents with clear determination.

Seeing their visible determination, the host’s eyes brimmed with excitement as she faced the crowd. Her amplified voice rang out across every corner of the arena.

"Ladies and gentlemen... the first round is about to start."

A wave of excitement swept through the arena.

"ARE YOU GUYS READY?" the host shouted as she faced the crowd.

Meanwhile, the four people who had also come here to oversee the tournament shook their heads at their classmate.

"Alice is surely enjoying herself," a young man said while looking at the host.

Beside him, a woman around his age also smiled.

"Yup... she is. She likes being the centre of attention."

Meanwhile, the arena felt as if it were trembling as a thunderous cheer rang out.

"YES!"

"WE ARE READY!"

The crowd responded, matching her energy. Some of them could already see money coming their way while simply sitting in their seats.

"ARE YOU SURE YOUR BET IS ON THE RIGHT PERSON?"

"YEAH! WE FUCKING ARE SURE!"

"MARCUS!"

"MINA!"

"LADY ELARA!"

People shouted at the top of their lungs without caring about their voices. The participants on the ground were moved as they heard the people of their cities supporting them.

Their expressions grew serious, and their weapons shone just as brightly as the determination in their eyes.

In sync, all of them began putting some distance between each other, as if it were some kind of universal rule.

"THEN WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR... LET’S GO!" Alice said with a grin.

"LET’S GO!"

"FUCKING GO!"

The moment Alice’s voice fell, the entire arena erupted into chaos.
