A Bug In Fate

Chapter 84: The Inter-City Tournament (05)

On the other side of the battlefield, two men who looked identical were causing chaos as one of them cast water-based spells while the other used earth-based elements. Huge stones were summoned onto the battlefield and thrown at other participants, forcing several of them to retreat while trying to avoid the attacks coming from different directions.

One of the twins, who was using water-type spells, had just eliminated a participant when he looked at his brother.

"18," he said.

"Hahaha! It’s 21 here," the one using earth elements replied as he met his brother’s eyes with a triumphant smile.

Seeing the scene, the crowd couldn’t hold back their laughter at their dynamic. Some might expect that, given they were brothers and looked exactly the same, they would have a good relationship.

But that wasn’t the case.

Instead, the twins always competed with each other whenever they got the chance. Even during something as serious as a tournament, they somehow found a way to turn everything into another competition between themselves.

But how did they become like this?

Surely, the scene just after their birth wasn’t like this, right ?

*Why do you look like me?*

*It’s you who copied my look.*

*But I was the one who was born first!*

*Seriously? Idiot, look back. You aren’t even fully ou—*

BOOM!

Suddenly, a huge sound rang out as Marcus used another spell, gaining everyone’s attention, including ours, who had been in the middle of something.

"Participant Marcus isn’t holding back at all! Look, he’s charging his Star Fist again!" Alice shouted, her eyes brimming with amusement.

To be honest, she wasn’t impressed by Marcus. Instead, she was impressed by herself as she heard the crowd following her lead and shouting loudly without caring about anything.

"That’s my son!"

"REDMONT CITY!"

"He took out three participants with just one attack! Hahaha!"

Seeing Redmont City getting hyped up, people from the other four cities also shouted loudly. While the participants on the ground could only shake their heads as they focused on the opponents ahead of them. Some were already exchanging blows, while others kept their distance, carefully watching for any opening they could use.

"Hey, look over there!"

"Who is he? What is he doing?"

"Which city is he from?"

Alice’s attention shifted as the crowd began pointing in a certain direction. Their voices were filled with bewilderment as they couldn’t believe what they were seeing.

Ah... it’s him.

Her gaze fell on a young man who was doing nothing.

He was just standing there with his hands in his pockets. His shoulders were relaxed, and he didn’t seem bothered by the chaos happening around him. Explosions were happening not far from him, spells were flying across the battlefield, and participants were fighting all around, yet he didn’t seem to care about any of it.

Suddenly, his eyes met Alice’s.

He smiled at her before casually looking away.

Did that bastard just smile at me?

Her patience was beginning to be tested, but she had to maintain her composure as the host of the tournament.

"But why isn’t anyone attacking him?" a man from the crowd asked out loud.

"Don’t tell me he bribed his opponents with money," a merchant suggested.

"Yeah, that’s possible... He doesn’t even have a weapon."

Several people nodded at the possibility, as they couldn’t think of any other reason why someone would be standing completely unharmed in the middle of such a chaotic battlefield.

As to clear their doubts, a participant gathered his courage and charged at Amon.

His parents had come here to watch him fight, so how could he step down in fear? And the man before him was also at the Rupture Realm, just like him, so shouldn’t it make sense that he and his opponent fight on equal footing before one of them gets eliminated?

"Look, that boy is attacking him!"

"Go, go, Ronan! Blackwood City’s people aren’t something that can be bribed with money!"

"Yeah, show him!"

"Maybe he didn’t get enough money," the earlier merchant said, as he didn’t believe any of the bullshit the Blackwood City people were saying.

Before everyone’s eyes, the man prepared a spell, and a water-type spell shot toward Amon.

Along with the crowd, Alice’s eyes were glued to the attack as everyone wondered what was going to happen.

Would the man defend himself?

Or would he finally take out his weapon?

Even the other four overseers of the tournament, in other words, the second-year students of Nebulon Academy, focused on the scene.

A blade formed from sharp water rushed toward Amon, rapidly closing the distance.

It was only fifty meters away.

Then forty.

But suddenly, something unexpected happened.

The water blade stopped abruptly in the air.

Before everyone’s eyes, the spell began to distort before completely disappearing into nothingness.

"What?" Alice shouted, her mouth slightly open.

"What was that?"

"Is that real?"

"What just happened?"

The crowd erupted into chaos as some people stood up from their seats with wide eyes.

And they had a reason.

Before their eyes, a Rupture Realm cultivator had stopped a spell before it could even reach him.

Alice and four of her classmates narrowed their eyes at the scene. Unlike the common folks, they had much more experience with cultivation.

The scene before them wasn’t impossible, but the situation was, as they couldn’t comprehend how the man on the ground had done it.

It was possible in some special situations. First, the person had to have better control than the caster, and by "better," it had to be to an absurd degree, as then one could theoretically control the mana around them together with the attack coming at them.

And the other situation was simple... it was that the person before them had a special ability.

They weren’t the only ones who were now focused on Amon, as other participants who were in the middle of the fight also looked at him with serious expressions.

Elara narrowed her eyes as a light flashed in her eyes, while Liam and Mina’s gazes lingered on him with strange expressions.

The twins shared a look as they evaluated the man before them.

Lucas’s eyes also became solemn at the unexpected variable in the battlefield.

Contrary to them, Marcus’s eyes were brimming with excitement as his fist clenched without him even realizing it.

Just as everyone was watching Amon with various expressions, the man who had attacked him suddenly found Amon’s gaze falling directly on him.

A chill ran down his spine.

Amon was smiling.

His expression remained completely relaxed, but there was something else in his eyes—a faint hint of pity.

The man couldn’t understand why, but that single expression made him feel uneasy.

Amon’s lips slowly moved.

And in the deathly silence of the arena, his quiet whisper somehow rang out clearly for everyone to hear.
