Aksai stood frozen as he tried to recount what Varesh had done in such a short time.
All of Varesh’s explosive moves were near instantaneous.
Varesh had burned his Essence Blood, but every movement had been precise.
Every decision had been ruthless and every sword strike had served a purpose. There was no wasted motion and no unnecessary attack.
Aksai’s heart sank.
For the first time since he had begun cultivating—
He felt genuine dread as he looked at Varesh. Had he known Varesh could kill Loken and the woodland clone within half a breath, he would have been even more cautious.
’No. I had remained cautious the entire time and he still pulled it off. There are no mistakes from my end. This guy is truly that powerful,’ Aksai concluded in his heart, correcting his earlier mindset.
This was the might of a true sword cultivator. And this was despite the fact that Varesh had broken into the late-stage Lord realm not too long ago and his cultivation base was still in the process of stabilizing.
Varesh slowly turned around.
His black Natal Sword hovered beside him. Blood essence continued burning within his body due to which his Sword Intent remained terrifying.
And his cold eyes once again landed on Aksai.
Aksai’s fingers tightened around his sword.
For the first time, he truly understood.
A true sword cultivator didn’t need countless techniques, artifacts, or elaborate tricks.
One sword was enough to shatter a thousand illusions.
And if the person holding that sword was strong enough, everything else became irrelevant.
Varesh slowly turned his head.
His gaze landed on Aksai.
For a brief moment, neither of them moved.
Aksai could see the coldness in Varesh’s eyes.
There was no anger anymore.
No mockery.
Only calculation.
Varesh’s gaze remained on Aksai for a few breaths before slowly shifting away.
It moved toward Jina.
Then Naisha.
A cold light flashed through his eyes.
Aksai’s expression changed. He understood Varesh’s intention immediately.
Jina and Naisha might not have appeared to be doing much on the surface.
They weren’t directly attacking Varesh.
They weren’t throwing powerful techniques at him.
They weren’t even interfering with him as aggressively as Aksai himself had.
But their existence was crucial.
The two Formation Lords were continuously controlling their respective Array Eyes.
Together with Loken, they had stabilized the Devil’s Den and reinforced its ability to suppress Varesh.
Without them, the formation’s efficiency would have fallen considerably.
And that would have changed everything.
With Varesh’s current destructive capabilities, the Devil’s Den would have been unable to maintain the isolation layers for long.
The island formation would have been torn apart one layer at a time.
Jina and Naisha were effectively supporting the entire battlefield from behind the scenes. Not to mention, the speed debuff the triangle battle formation had put upon Varesh.
After Loken’s death, Aksai quickly stabilized the battle formation, turning it from rectangular to triangular formation. Although it resulted in lower debuff value, it was still very helpful to Aksai and his remaining subordinates.
Varesh understood that as well. As such, he intended to remove them first before he dealt with Aksai.
Even though he didn’t know much about the array formations, his Sword Sense was sensitive enough for him to feel the array’s condition.
Varesh quickly identified that Aksai had bolstered his defences to the extreme using his identity as the formation master within the island formation. Plus, Varesh had witnessed with his own eyes that Aksai was a user of various mysterious techniques.
Just like what Aksai had planned beforehand, Varesh also realized that he couldn’t fight Aksai head-on while his supporters were present within the formation. Just like how Aksai dealt with Varesh’s peers first before approaching him, Varesh too wanted to use the same strategy to handle Aksai.
Aksai’s eyes narrowed. He couldn’t allow that to happen. Aksai didn’t plan on letting the Sun Ocean Lord go unscathed from the get go. As such, his elimination didn’t affect Aksai’s plans.
However, Loken dying was way out of Aksai’s initial calculations. He truly couldn’t afford to lose any more of his Lord-level subordinates anymore. Otherwise, his island would soon turn into a desert land that would remain riddled with potent Sword Essence for years to come.
After all, if Jina and Naisha died, the pressure on Varesh would decrease tremendously.
The formation would become unstable.
And once that happened, Varesh would have the freedom to move around the island.
At that point, stopping him would become exponentially harder.
No. Since I have already developed a deep enmity with him, I can’t allow him to go back to his faction anymore. Otherwise, this island would become as chaotic as the mainland.
Aksai took a deep breath as he thought to himself.
He still had one more card.
Aksai’s hand moved.
A strange spatial fluctuation appeared beside him.
Hummm...
A massive figure emerged from the spatial distortion.
ROOOAAAR!
The roar shook the battlefield.
A gigantic Poison Wyvern descended.
Its enormous wings spread across the sky.
Dark poisonous mist immediately poured from its body.
The surrounding fog was contaminated in an instant.
A terrifying poisonous aura spread outward.
Zyn had arrived.
The Poison Wyvern’s enormous body landed heavily on the ground.
BOOM!
The earth trembled.
Its scales glimmered with a dark sheen.
Its massive claws dug into the ground.
Two enormous wings slowly folded behind its body.
Zyn’s vertical pupils swept across the battlefield.
The Poison Wyvern looked far more imposing than before.
But there were still traces of the battle against Arkaal visible on its body.
Several scales remained slightly dull.
Some parts of its flesh had yet to completely recover.
Its aura was also somewhat unstable.
Zyn had suffered extremely heavy injuries during Aksai’s battle against Arkaal.
Although the Poison Wyvern had barely recovered to its peak condition, it still needed several more years to completely stabilize its foundation.
Aksai knew that.
He knew summoning Zyn now could potentially affect his recovery.
But he couldn’t wait anymore.
I don’t have the luxury of saving him for later.
Aksai looked toward Varesh.
"Zyn."
The Poison Wyvern lowered its enormous head.
Its eyes fixed on the black-robed sword cultivator.
ROOOAAAR!
Another roar erupted.
A terrifying wave of poisonous aura swept across the battlefield.
Varesh had already prepared to move.
His Sword Momentum had begun gathering.
He intended to transform into Sword Escape Light and eliminate Jina and Naisha before they could react.
But the moment Zyn’s aura erupted, Varesh stopped as he looked at Zyn’s sudden entry into the fray. His Sword Momentum dispersed slightly as his gaze slowly turned toward the enormous beast.
For the first time since emerging from the space-element cube, Varesh showed genuine caution.
His Sword Sense swept across Zyn.
Then again.
His pupils contracted.
Late-stage 3rd Order...
The Poison Wyvern’s aura wasn’t as stable as it should have been.
Its foundation was slightly injured and its blood essence wasn’t circulating perfectly. But none of that changed the fact that it was a late-stage 3rd Order demon beast.
And judging from its poisonous aura, it was clear that it wasn’t an ordinary late-stage 3rd Order existence.
Varesh’s fingers tightened around his Natal Sword.
He had already fought against Aksai’s formation, endured assassination attempts, broken through a space-element artifact, and destroyed a Woodland Clone.
He had killed one of Aksai’s Formation Lords.
And now—
Another late-stage 3rd Order existence had appeared.
Varesh looked at Aksai.
His expression became complicated.
How many trump cards does this guy have? He has access to standalone cultivation techniques that are almost equal to the true sword cultivation legacy with Sword Mind and Sword Body Chapters in it.
Plus, that demon beast is also not normal.
With the current condition of this subcontinent, a draconic creature of that caliber shouldn’t be present here. Plus, it doesn’t have a Draconic Domain despite being a late-stage 3rd Order creature. It means it has been raised in isolation.
Add that with all the other methods the crafty bastard has shown so far. It seems... he holds some secrets related to an ancient inheritance site.
"Does this island have an entrance to a legacy site?"
Varesh asked in a deep voice, attempting to initiate a conversation to buy time. However, nobody replied.
Aksai didn’t need to answer anything. He simply stood behind Zyn.
The Poison Wyvern slowly spread its wings.
Poisonous mist continued pouring from its body.
Jina and Naisha immediately took advantage of the brief pause.
Their Array Eyes stabilized.
The Devil’s Den’s fluctuations became smoother.
Varesh sensed it, his expression becoming colder. He had been preparing to eliminate the two Formation Lords.
Now Zyn had arrived specifically to prevent him from doing so.
Varesh’s eyes narrowed.
He could already tell that this battle was becoming increasingly troublesome.
Aksai, meanwhile, looked at Zyn’s battered body.
There was a trace of concern in his eyes.
Sorry buddy. I wanted to let you recover for a few more years.
He tightened his grip on his sword.
But it seems fate doesn’t intend to give either of us that luxury.
