Noah.
With the anger and determination burning inside me, I slowly lowered myself onto the edge of the bed.
Every movement was deliberate, as I wasn’t sitting because I wanted to rest—I was buying time.
If I left too soon, there was a chance I would run into them and that was the last thing I needed.
For now, it was better to remain inside the room for a little longer and allow enough time for everyone in the corridor to leave.
Only then would it be safer for me to move around unnoticed.
I let out a slow breath and remained seated, forcing myself to appear calm despite the storm raging inside my mind.
Without wasting another second, I established a mind link.
The connection reached Damien almost immediately.
Out of all his brothers, he seemed to be the most reasonable.
At least, he was someone who thought before acting.
"Any issue, Noah?" Damien’s voice echoed inside my mind the moment the connection formed.
There was obvious concern in his tone.
"Have you spoken to Maria?" he asked without hesitation.
I inhaled deeply before answering.
"There is no issue," I replied, though my hands instinctively curled into tight fists, as the frustration I had been suppressing returned almost instantly. "I did meet up with Maria, but we didn’t get the chance to draft a plan." I paused briefly before continuing. "The Lycan Prince suddenly interrupted us."
There was a brief silence, and then Damien spoke again.
"Does that mean he found out?" he asked immediately.
The urgency in his voice was unmistakable.
"No," I answered firmly. "He doesn’t know." I took another slow breath before continuing. "But I have a feeling he’ll be watching my every movement closely from now on."
That feeling refused to leave me.
The encounter had changed everything.
"So you’ll be the one to meet up with Maria," I continued. "You have to take my place."
No matter what happened...The most important thing was getting Maria out of this place disguised as a prison.
Every passing moment she remained here only increased the danger surrounding her.
And judging from everything that had happened...Vincent was definitely keeping a close eye on me now.
He was suspicious, and that alone made it impossible for me to act freely.
I couldn’t accomplish this alone anymore, especially not under constant surveillance.
There was simply too much at stake.
"Okay," Damien replied without the slightest hesitation, as his answer came almost immediately. "I’ll do that."
There was a note of excitement in his voice, as though he was already prepared to carry out the task the moment the opportunity presented itself.
I rolled my eyes the moment Damien’s reply faded from my mind.
Without another word, I severed the mind link.
The silence that followed did little to calm the uneasiness growing inside me.
If I was being honest with myself, I hated the idea of Damien meeting Maria alone.
The mere thought of it left a bitter feeling in my chest.
I trusted him.
At least, I trusted him enough to help.
But that didn’t mean I liked the situation.
Still...what exactly could I do?
I had run out of options.
Maria’s safety came first, and nothing else mattered more than that.
I loved Maria far more than I could ever put into words. If protecting her meant swallowing my own discomfort, then so be it.
If it meant stepping aside and allowing someone else to help her, then I would endure it.
As long as she remained safe, as long as she could smile again and as long as she could finally be free from everything surrounding her.
That was all I wanted.
I drew in a long, weary breath before allowing myself to fall backward onto the bed.
My body landed heavily against the mattress.
I lay there motionless, staring blankly at the ceiling above me, as my mind refused to rest.
Everything that had happened recently...It was all beginning to take a toll on me.
The weight pressing against my shoulders seemed to grow heavier with each passing day.
I was exhausted.
More than anything, I just wanted all of this to be over.
I wanted the fighting, the hiding, the fear and the uncertainty.
I simply wanted a future where I could remain beside Maria forever without anything threatening to tear us apart.
Slowly, I closed my eyes.
In the silence of the room, I whispered a heartfelt prayer to the Moon Goddess.
Please...Keep Maria safe and don’t let Vincent have his way.
It was the only thing I asked, nothing more.
When I finally opened my eyes again, a strange sense of calm had settled over me.
The heaviness inside my chest eased slightly.
Taking another deep breath, I pushed myself off the bed and stood.
It was time to move.
By now, enough time had passed.
Surely everyone had already left the corridors.
Without another thought, I walked toward the door. My hand wrapped around the handle before I slowly pulled it open.
The moment the door swung aside...
I froze.
Several of Vincent’s men were standing directly outside.
They hadn’t moved.
They had been guarding the room the entire time.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath.
My expression immediately darkened.
Vincent...what a sly bastard.
"Alpha Noah," the man standing at the front called respectfully. "You’ll need to follow us quietly."
I clenched my jaw so tightly it almost hurt. "And if I don’t?" I asked, my voice low and guarded.
The man didn’t flinch.
"Then you’ll leave us with no other choice."
My brows lifted slightly.
Every instinct inside me immediately went on high alert.
Something wasn’t right.
Before I could process another thought or react to what was happening, one of the guards suddenly stepped forward.
A sharp blow landed against the side of my neck, and pain exploded through my body.
My vision blurred instantly, and the floor seemed to tilt beneath me. Within seconds, everything went black.
Darkness swallowed me whole.
