DAMIEN.
It is beyond weird—it is utterly baffling, and frankly, every single thing happening right now is grating on my last nerve. What kind of cruel, twisted joke was fate playing on me?
The entire time Patricia was standing right in front of me, I kept feeling the unmistakable, tugging pull of the bond. It was insistent, echoing deep within my chest.
Yet, there she was, looking at me with total innocence, claiming she didn’t have the slightest clue who Maria’s twin could possibly be.
Looking into her eyes, the frustrating truth became undeniably clear: she really doesn’t know anything. She isn’t hiding a secret; she is completely in the dark.
But if that persistent bond pull was real—and I knew without a shadow of a doubt that it was—then what did that actually imply?
What truly happened back then?
A mountain of details simply doesn’t add up. If it really was a stillborn as everyone was led to believe, then why on earth was Maria kept completely ignorant of it?
None of this makes sense unless someone deliberately pulled a card back then, orchestrating a scheme right beneath everyone’s noses. Someone manipulated the situation, and I need to find out exactly who it was and what they did.
Without wasting another second, I reached into my mind and forced open a mind link. The invisible thread stretched out into the ether, vibrating with urgency until it finally snapped into place and connected.
"Beta Torin!" I called out through the link, letting the intense demand in my voice carry over the connection. "I need you to do something for me right now!"
I swiftly laid out all the necessary details, giving him concise, direct instructions on what to investigate without dropping a single beat. As soon as I was sure he understood the assignment, I severed the mind link, letting the connection go dark.
I turned on my heel and walked out of the garden, leaving the quiet sanctuary behind. My feet moved with deliberate purpose as I went straight to inspect our preparations, ensuring every piece of our plans was currently in motion just as intended.
After thoroughly checking the grounds and confirming everything was running smoothly, I turned around and headed back toward my room, taking care to keep a low profile so I wouldn’t be caught wandering where I shouldn’t be.
However, my luck ran out just short of my destination.
Standing right there in the hallway was Daniel, and lounging right beside him was Galen.
The last thing I had the patience for was dealing with their antics, so I adjusted my posture and tried walking right past them, determined to avoid any unnecessary drama.
But Daniel had other ideas. With a swift, calculated movement, he thrust his leg directly into my path.
I stumbled violently, my hands flying out as I nearly crashed face-first onto the hard floor. Regaining my balance at the last possible second, a surge of hot frustration boiled over inside me. I whipped around to face him, my eyes narrowing into a sharp, irritated glare.
"What’s the meaning of that?" I asked in annoyance.
Daniel chuckled, a low, arrogant sound that vibrated with malicious delight.
"I’m counting the seconds," he said casually, leaning back as if he had all the time in the world. "It remains to see you fall to the ground! I mean, it’s practical."
My face darkened instantly, the warmth draining from my expression to leave behind a cold, hard mask. I felt my hands ball into tight fists, my knuckles turning stark white under the tension.
Anger flared hot in my chest, threatening to consume my focus, but I fought viciously to force it back down. I couldn’t afford to lose my temper right now—not here, and certainly not in front of them. I desperately needed my mind to stay sharp and unclouded, just in case my brothers were trying to reach me through our link.
"You psycho," I spat out, holding his mocking gaze. "Whatever it is you are practicing..." I paused, deliberately letting a short, cold smile cut across my lips, "...you need to stop, because you have failed."
Refusing to give them any more satisfaction, I took two steps forward to leave them behind. But mid-stride, a sudden thought struck me, and I halted dead in my tracks.
"Oh!" I exclaimed with mock realization, turning back around. I looked directly at Daniel, letting a slow, deliberate smirk spread across my face. "Your lover..." I gestured vaguely toward the woman standing beside him, keeping my tone deceptively calm, "...the woman beside you still owes me her life."
"You—" Daniel barked out, his eyes flashing with sudden rage.
He didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence. Before he could take a step toward me, Galen broke into a sudden, eerie burst of laughter that echoed unnaturally down the corridor. The unsettling sound cut through the tension like a blade.
"Your life is already hanging on a thread..." she sneered, stepping away from Daniel. She strolled toward me with slow, measured steps until she was standing directly in front of me, crossing her arms defensively against her chest. "...so, how can I owe you my life?" she asked, her eyes gleaming with genuine amusement.
I raised my brows, staring at her in cold confusion.
What exactly was she trying to point at with that cryptic remark?
Did she honestly believe her position was so secure?
Did she really think she could just effortlessly take my life whenever she pleased?
What a cruel, delusional joke.
Slowly, I lowered my face until I was at eye level with her, holding her gaze with a dark, threatening smile that stripped away any remaining trace of humor.
"You only rant," I said, letting the words hang heavily in the narrow space between us. "And right now, I have no time for such nonsense."
Without waiting for her to formulate a response or giving Daniel another glance, I turned sharply on my heel and walked away, leaving the two of them standing in the hallway behind me.
