Vincent.

I paced back and forth across the cold floor of my private room, my heavy footsteps echoing off the stone walls as I waited anxiously for a victory message from Daniel or Alaric. Minute after minute ticked by in agonizing silence, yet I still received none.

The waiting was driving me insane. I had given very clear, explicit orders regarding how this entire operation was to be handled. I had specifically instructed that Maria be brought back to me completely unharmed—not a single scratch was to be on her skin.

At the same time, I had also secretly dispatched a specialized unit of soldiers to shadow and protect Anabel from any possible harm. Whatever chaos unfolded out there, she had to remain safe; she was my mate, after all.

Suddenly, the heavy wooden door to my room burst open with a violent slam, shattering the quiet gloom, and Alaric barged into the space, panting heavily as he clutched his chest.

"Alpha..." he called out, his voice raw, raspy, and trembling with exhaustion. "We were ambushed... and we lost nearly half of the armies that came with us!" he added, his shoulders slumping as he lowered his head in utter defeat, unable to look me in the eye.

"What?!" I shouted at the top of my voice, a wave of pure, unadulterated shock exploding through my chest.

In a flash of blinding rage, I closed the distance between us, immediately grabbed him by the front of his tunic, and hoisted him clean off his feet into the air.

"What on earth do you mean by *lost*?!" I demanded, my voice booming off the walls as I tightened my iron grip on his collar, strangling the breath right out of his throat.

"The q-quadruplet Alphas....they..." he choked out slowly, struggling desperately to gasp for air as his face turned pale under my crushing grip.

Hearing those cursed names, I immediately released my grip on his shirt and carelessly flung him to the ground. He hit the stone floor hard, coughing violently as he scrambled to regain his breath.

"...They had secretly set an entire contingency of armies in wait," Alaric continued, his voice shaking as he looked up from the floor. "Causing us to be brutally attacked completely unawares... and before we could even attempt to organize a retreat, it was already far too late!" he added with great difficulty.

"Those absolute bastards!" I yelled at the top of my voice, the terrifying sound echoing down the dark corridors of the stronghold.

I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned stark white and my claws nearly breached the skin of my palms. Fuming with uncontainable anger, a dark shadow settled over my face as I vowed to tear their world apart.

"I will personally kill every single one of them with my own bare hands!"

"Alpha!" Alaric opened his mouth to say something, raising a hand in protest, but he didn’t get to finish as I turned and glared at him with a murderous intensity that instantly choked the words in his throat.

"What about Daniel?" I asked, my voice dropping into a dangerous, deadly murmur.

"From the later intel I got, Daniel’s troops were able to cross paths with the quadruplets directly," Alaric explained quickly, stammering slightly under my heavy stare. "But as of right now, no other news has been brought back from the front lines."

I immediately clenched my fists, my mind racing as rage and disbelief warred inside me.

How could those arrogant quadruplets possibly have planned and executed a counter-ambush of this scale in such a ridiculously short period of time?

I must have really underestimated them.

The realization settled heavily in my mind as I replayed everything that had happened, my frustration slowly hardening into something far colder. I had treated those four brothers like nothing more than minor obstacles standing in my way—small, insignificant pieces scattered across a board that I had assumed I could move whenever I pleased.

But clearly, I had been wrong, as I had been far too lenient with them and far too patient.

That mistake would not happen again.

From this moment onward, I would no longer use a gentle hand when dealing with them. Whatever restraint I had shown before was gone. The playing around was officially over.

They must die and that was final.

Once those four brothers were completely out of this world, everything would finally fall into its proper place. There would be nothing left standing between me and what I wanted. Both Maria and Anabel would finally be mine, exactly as they should have been from the beginning.

Of course, I knew Anabel would inevitably rebel.

The moment she discovered that I was responsible for slaughtering her beloved brothers, she would undoubtedly fight back. She would resist me, rage against me, and drown herself in the grief of losing them.

But she didn’t have to worry her pretty little head about suffering through all of that.

I would personally take care of it.

I would erase every single painful memory she had, leaving nothing behind for her to mourn or cling to. One simple, concentrated pill would be enough to wipe her slate completely clean, stripping away every memory that could cause her pain and leaving her devoted to me alone.

And as for Noah...there would be no room for another mistake.

To permanently prevent any future mishaps, lingering attachments, or unwanted interference, Noah would also be completely and irretrievably wiped away from the surface of the earth.

I clenched my fists until my nails bit deep into my palms, drawing blood as the image of Noah’s smug, defensive face flashed through my mind. I immediately spun around on my heel to face my kneeling second-in-command.

"Prepare the entire standing army and mobilize all our allied forces," I paused, a dark, twisted smile slowly spreading across my face as a vision of total destruction took shape. "We are having a war!"
