Noah.

I had known long ago—far longer than I cared to admit—that the quadruplets were never going to stay still for long. Ruthless, possessive, and driven by raw Alpha instinct, they were bound to snap sooner or later.

But if they thought they could use this chaotic lockdown to keep Maria away from me permanently, they were dead wrong. That was something I would simply never accept.

And if I had to lay the blame for this absolute nightmare at anyone’s feet, it was the Lycan Prince.

If that arrogant bastard hadn’t pushed too far and stolen my bride, I wouldn’t be trapped in this hellish mess in the first place. I wouldn’t be forced to endure their insults, fight their battles, or watch them claim what was rightfully mine.

Yet, past all the fiery rage and vengeance burning inside me, a cold, sickening dread consumed my mind whenever I thought about Maria.

I was so damn worried about her health that I could barely think straight. The fear sitting heavily in my chest refused to ease, no matter how hard I tried to push it down.

What on earth was actually happening to her?

How had everything changed so suddenly?

She had been perfectly fine just moments ago. Yes, she had been shaken and completely overwhelmed by the heavy, life-altering revelation about her sister. I knew the news had affected her deeply, and I had seen the emotions written all over her face.

But she had still been standing. She had still been breathing normally. Most importantly, she had been holding my hand.

The moment she collapsed, I had tried to push past the brothers without thinking twice. Panic had seized me so completely that all I could focus on was her. The instant the quadruplets lifted her limp body and hurried away with her, I immediately sprinted down the corridor after them, my heart pounding violently against my ribs as I desperately tried to stay by her side.

But before I could get anywhere near her, I was brutally cut off.

Two massive, hefty guards slammed their bodies against the doorway, blocking my path completely. Their broad frames filled the entrance, while their thick arms stretched across it like an impenetrable wall. I tried to move forward, but there was simply no way through them.

I was forced to remain where I was, battered and bleeding, my body aching from everything that had already happened. Through the narrow gap between the guards, I could only watch helplessly as Adrein hurriedly dragged the elderly healer into the room.

My eyes remained fixed on the doorway, desperate to catch even the smallest glimpse of her.

I wanted to scream. I wanted to shove those guards aside with everything I had and force my way into that room. I wanted to barge in and rip her out of their arms, refusing to remain separated from her when she was so helpless.

But I couldn’t do a damn thing.

Every attempt to move forward was met by the solid resistance of those massive bodies. My strength felt useless against them, and my battered body was already struggling to keep me standing.

So I remained trapped in the hallway, physically battered and completely restricted, forced to watch from the outside while the woman I desperately wanted to protect was taken beyond my reach.

What kind of husband am I?

What sort of husband stands by and can’t do a single thing to protect or help his own wife?

I felt so utterly, painfully helpless in that moment. And I hated it. I hated every single second of this suffocating feeling, and I swore to myself that they would pay for making me feel this way.

I kept standing helplessly outside the room, and the pack’s sudden, aggressive lockdown was not helping matters at all.

Heavy iron boots slammed against the stone floors as guards endlessly patrolled the dimly lit corridors, moving with tense, military precision as though they were frantically searching for a hidden intruder.

Ignoring their hard glares, I kept pacing back and forth in front of the heavy wooden door, clutching my bruised ribs as I waited anxiously for the healer to come outside and for Maria to finally wake up.

After what felt like an absolute eternity of suffocating silence, the door handle finally clicked. The elderly healer stepped out into the hallway, his shoulders slumped and his head bowed low in deep exhaustion.

The moment I saw him, I immediately rushed toward him, my body so battered and weak that I almost stumbled straight onto the hard floor.

"What’s wrong with her?" I demanded, my breath coming out in ragged, frantic gasps. "Is she doing well? Is she conscious? What did you find?!" I blurted out question after question without giving the poor man a single second to respond.

"Alpha Noah," the healer called out respectfully, bowing his head even lower.

I wasn’t in the mood to acknowledge any form of formalities.

"Speak!" I commanded, my voice dropping into a harsh, desperate snap that cut through his quiet tone.

"Lady Maria is currently in a coma," the healer revealed, taking a long, heavy breath before looking up into my eyes. "Her body is under severe strain because she needs to complete her mate bond. Her wolf had been desperately trying to suppress the dangerous effects of the incomplete bond, but it simply couldn’t hold out any longer."

I froze instantly, the air completely knocked out of my lungs.

What does he mean by mate bond?

A cold, horrifying realization washed over me. No way. Absolutely no way! I could definitely not let Maria and those four arrogant quadruplets become one completely.

Even if Maria eventually came to her senses and wanted to sever the connection, the quadruplets’ wild, possessive behavior made it crystal clear—they would instantly reject her rejection, binding her to them by force forever.

My heart skipped a beat at the terrifying thought, my mind spinning into absolute darkness.

’I can’t lose Maria!’ I muttered frantically to myself, completely zoning out from the world around me as panic gripped my soul.
