Aidan.

I was standing in the dim hallway just outside Damien’s bedroom, my hands shoved deep into my pockets as I tried to force my brain to stop spinning.

The silence in the corridor felt heavy and wrong. Inside that room, Maria was lying unconscious, her life hanging by a thread because of an incomplete bond. And down the hall, Anabel was locked away, carrying a secret that was threatening to tear our entire family apart.

My chest ached with a crushing weight I couldn’t shake off. As the oldest, I was supposed to keep this pack together. I was supposed to protect my siblings, maintain order, and keep my mate—Maria safe.

Right now, I felt like everything was slipping right through my fingers.

The heavy thud of quick, rushed footsteps shattered the quiet.

I snapped my head up, my eyes narrowing as one of our head guards came hurrying down the hallway toward me. His face was pale, cold sweat glistening on his forehead.

"Alpha Aidan," the guard panted out, stopping a few feet away and bowing his head respectfully.

"What is it?" I asked, my voice dropping into a stern, commanding tone. "Is there an update on the territory lockdown?"

"No, my Lord," the guard replied nervously, swallowing hard. "It’s about Alpha Noah."

Just hearing that name made my jaw clench tight, a fresh surge of irritation rising in my chest. "What did he do now?"

"He just tried to force his way into Lady Anabel’s private quarters," the guard revealed, taking a small, uneasy step back. "He was demanding to see her, and when the guards blocked the entrance, he started shouting her name at the top of his lungs, trying to get her to come to the door."

"He did what?!" I barked out, my voice booming off the stone walls. My fists clenched so hard my knuckles turned white. "Is he completely out of his mind?!"

"The guards stopped him, Lord Aidan," the guard quickly added, holding his hands up defensively. "They shoved him back and enforced your orders. He retreated down the hall, but... he’s still wandering around the pack house, looking for a way around the lockdown."

A harsh, bitter laugh escaped my lips as I shook my head in total disbelief. "Unbelievable... the absolute nerve of that guy!"

Davian threw open the bedroom door, stepping out into the hallway with a dark, murderous scowl plastered across his face. "I heard shouting," Davian growled, his eyes flashing dangerous gold. "What did that bastard Noah do this time?"

"He went straight to Anabel’s room," I spat out, turning to face my brother. "He tried to pull her into this mess and I am so sure he was literally standing outside her door screaming her name, trying to get her to help him."

"Are you kidding me?!" Davian roared, taking a aggressive step forward, his chest heaving with wild anger. "First he tries to take Maria away while she’s on the verge of collapsing, and now he’s trying to manipulate our sister?! I’m going to kill him, Aidan! I swear to God, I’m going to rip his throat out right now!"

"Calm down, Davian!" I snapped, placing a firm, unyielding hand against his chest to hold him back. "Beating him senseless in the hallway already caused enough chaos to make Maria faint!" I paused. "Do you want her waking up—if she wakes up—to you murdering her lov... guest in cold blood?!"

"He’s not a guest anymore!" Davian spat back, shoving my hand off his chest, though he stayed put. "He’s a threat! He’s trying to undermine us at every single turn! If he gets to Anabel, who knows what kind of crazy ideas he’ll put in her head!"

Damien and Adrein stepped out of the bedroom right behind Davian, their expressions immediately darkening as they caught the end of our conversation.

"What’s going on?" Adrein asked, his voice filled with deep worry and exhaustion. "Is Noah causing trouble again?"

"He tried to breach Anabel’s corridor," I explained, looking at all three of my brothers. "He’s desperate, as he knows Maria is in a coma, he knows the bond is incomplete, and he’s running around like a cornered animal trying to find a loophole."

"How are you sure he knows about the incomplete bond?" Damien asked calmly.

"Isn’t it obvious!" I said coldly. "There is no two guess about it." I added.

"We’ve been way too soft on him," Davian growled, his deep voice vibrating through the floorboards as he cracked his bloody knuckles. "We gave him a room, we let him walk around our home, and he repays us by starting fights and harassing our family." He paused. "We need to lock him up in the dungeon until this whole disaster is resolved."

"No, not the dungeon," I said firmly, rubbing my temples as I tried to keep a clear head. "Throwing a visiting Alpha into a dungeon will spark a full-blown war with his pack, and we already have enough fire to put out with Anabel and the intruder. But we cannot let him roam these halls freely for another second."

"Then what do we do with him?" Adrein asked softly, looking between us with concern. "He’s not just going to sit quietly in his room and drink tea, Aidan. He wants Maria." He added, as he clenches his fists tightly.

"He doesn’t get a choice anymore," I commanded coldly, my Alpha authority flaring up, settling the matter once and for all. I turned straight to the head guard standing nervously nearby. "Take four of our strongest warriors right now. Find Noah, seize him, and put him under strict house arrest in the west guest wing."

"Understood, Alpha Aidan," the guard bowed quickly.

"And listen to me very carefully," I added, stepping closer to the guard, my eyes narrowing into slit-like points. "Double the guards outside his door. No one goes in, and he does not step one foot out. If he tries to fight back or escape, use whatever physical force is necessary to keep him contained. Do I make myself clear?"

"Extremely clear, my Lord!" the guard replied instantly, as he turned on his heel and hurried off to gather his men.

Adrein let out a long, shaky sigh, leaning his back against the stone wall. "I hate this," he whispered, his eyes filled with genuine pain. "Everything is falling apart around us." He paused. "Maria is unconscious in there, Anabel is locked in her room crying, and we’re treating our bro... guests like prisoners."

"We’re doing what we have to do to keep this family alive and our mate!" Damien snapped sharply, though the strain in his voice betrayed his own deep fear, and he turned his eyes toward the closed bedroom door where Maria lay helpless. "Now that Noah is out of the way... what are we going to do about Maria?"

The question hung heavy in the air, cold and suffocating.

I looked at Damien, seeing the torment and agonizing guilt eating away at him. He was the only one left who hadn’t marked her. The complete weight of her survival was sitting right on his shoulders, and we all knew it.

"We go back inside," I said quietly, my voice dropping into a solemn, heavy tone as I put a hand on Damien’s shoulder. "We watch over her, and we pray to the Moon goddess that her condition stabilizes." I paused. "But if it doesn’t... you’re going to have to make a choice, Damien and you’re going to have to make it fast."
