Chapter 149: Chapter 149: No One is Simple (6)
Seraphina Sterling was on the verge of cursing. ’Who in the world has Simon provoked this time?!’
"Seraphina, look out!" Genevieve Churchill’s expression changed the moment she saw the dark barrel of the gun. She cried out the warning as she sprinted toward the man holding it.
"You fool, drop the gun!" Simon roared with authority. The gunman faltered for a split second, and in that instant, a sharp fruit knife pierced his wrist. The pistol clattered to the ground!
Being the closest, Genevieve Churchill immediately snatched up the gun and aimed it at the man’s head. "Don’t move!"
The crowded little alley fell silent at once.
Seraphina Sterling walked over and shot Simon a glance. "This is your problem, so you solve it! Don’t drag us into this!"
"All of you, get lost! I’ll go back when I feel like it. Tell them to stop trying to force me back like this! Otherwise, I’ll make sure they never see me again!"
Simon was furious, unable to believe Seraphina Sterling had witnessed this. ’Anyone but her! Why did it have to be Seraphina! Damn it! She already has the upper hand with me; now she’ll take me even less seriously!’
"This is Apex, not Country M. You can’t carry firearms here! And you definitely can’t just point them at people. The one thing I hate most is having a gun pointed at me. This time, out of respect for Simon, I only gave you a light cut on the wrist. If there’s a next time, your wrist is getting a hole in it!"
As she spoke, Seraphina Sterling meticulously wiped the blade of the fruit knife. The careful action, her serious expression, and the soft voice delivering the warning did nothing to lessen the threat. The man whose wrist Seraphina had "greeted" with the knife subconsciously stroked the thin, bloody line that had appeared. ’Is she even a woman? To have such skill with a throwing knife! Even if I hadn’t been distracted, I wouldn’t have been able to dodge it.’
A sharp glare from Simon swept over his men. The four shot Seraphina Sterling a resentful look. She had single-handedly ruined a golden opportunity!
"Seraphina! You’re a pro! How did you do that? Teach me! You have to teach me!" Genevieve Churchill, acting as if nothing had just happened, grabbed Seraphina by the arm and started pestering her about the throwing knife.
Seraphina could only sigh. ’Genevieve Churchill’s nerves are really something else.’ Still, being so unflappable had its upsides. At the very least, she wasn’t so scared by what had just happened that her legs went weak and she couldn’t walk.
"Seraphina, we’re friends, right? You have to teach me! That was just too cool!" Genevieve Churchill’s eyes were practically sparkling. She had lived this long and never seen such incredible skill with a throwing knife!
"My dearest lady, even if I teach you, it’ll have to be after we get back. Have you even looked at the time?" Seraphina said helplessly, turning to leave first.
"Seraphina Sterling, why aren’t you asking me anything?" Simon asked in confusion.
"If I asked, would you even tell me?" Seraphina stopped walking but didn’t turn around.
Simon was left speechless.
’It was true—he couldn’t say anything. But after something like this, wouldn’t a normal person ask a question or two?’
Just as Simon was puzzling over this, Seraphina Sterling continued, "Besides, we’re not that close. I don’t need to know your business."
Simon, who had just been confused, suddenly felt a pang of unease. Her words made him exceptionally uncomfortable. He said nothing more and followed Seraphina Sterling and Genevieve Churchill toward the winter camp base.
However, it seemed their luck was particularly bad tonight. They had just driven off four people, only for another crowd to show up, blocking the alley’s entrance.
