Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Making a Deal (7)
"Seraphina Sterling! Help me!" Simon glanced over and saw Seraphina Sterling leaning against a thick pine tree, watching the scene with relish. He was so furious he could have spit blood. He was exhausted from the fight, and she was just standing there relaxing!
A faint smile touched Seraphina Sterling’s lips, her bright eyes shimmering. "I don’t think I’m needed! I’ll leave these guys for you to enjoy on your own!"
Simon froze, and in that moment, he took a fist to the gut! ’Why do those words sound so familiar?’ A few days ago, when Seraphina Sterling was surrounded by a group of thugs, he had been watching from the sidelines and had said the exact same thing! He never imagined she had actually heard him and committed it to memory. And now, under the same circumstances, she had thrown his words right back at him, verbatim!
There’s a reason for the saying: you can offend anyone but a woman. Their grudges are no joke!
Seraphina Sterling stood up. "You have fun here. I still have to go find my gift!"
She had just lifted her foot to leave when she felt a powerful killing intent. Before her brain could even process the thought, the throwing knife in her hand was gone. The sharp blade grazed Simon’s calf as it flew past. Crying out in pain, Simon immediately dropped to one knee. At that exact moment, a bullet whizzed past him, embedding itself in the tree trunk behind him. If not for the sudden pain in his calf forcing him to his knee, that bullet would have hit him dead center!
A wave of delayed fear washed over Simon. The men attacking him also stopped. Four of them remained to protect him while the others quickly began searching for any sign of the hidden shooter!
Seraphina Sterling walked over and retrieved her fruit knife. "Looks like your situation isn’t as secure as you thought. I really wonder who wants you dead badly enough to go to such elaborate lengths. Tell me, if you had actually gotten hurt—or, you know, kicked the bucket—wouldn’t your parents assume the very people surrounding you were the ones who wanted you dead?"
Simon’s expression turned even uglier. ’Someone actually wants to kill me? And using a method like this!’
"You can’t just die on me like this, you know. I’d be at a huge loss!" Seraphina Sterling said, patting Simon’s shoulder meaningfully. She then turned to the four large men who had stayed behind. "What are you all standing around gawking for? Can’t you see he’s injured? Help him up!"
It happened in the blink of an eye. Two of the four men who had stayed behind suddenly launched an attack, their sharp daggers flashing as they sliced across the throats of the other two, leaving nothing but a thin red line.
Neither Simon nor Seraphina Sterling had ever imagined that two of the four men who’d stayed behind were on the enemy’s side! Luckily, the two who had just been killed had been standing in front of them. Otherwise, they might have been the ones lying on the ground right now!
"Young Master Simon, we’ll be the ones to send you on your way!"
"Wait!" Seraphina Sterling suddenly jumped out. "How about we talk this over? I don’t really know this guy—we only just met. You’re after his life, so you can let me go, right?"
"Let you go? So you can call the police? Or bring a whole army back to fight us? Do you think we’re that stupid? If you want to blame someone, blame your own bad luck for sticking with Young Master Simon!" As soon as the words left his mouth, the man brandished his sharp dagger again, preparing to end the fight with a single slash, just like he had before.
But Seraphina Sterling was faster, lashing out with a powerful leg sweep. The man was forced to retreat, and his partner jumped into the fray!
Two on two!
Although Simon’s calf was injured, it didn’t seem to affect his speed in the slightest.
The men were formidable, but Seraphina Sterling was no pushover, and she aimed exclusively for their vital points!
For a moment, the four were locked in a stalemate, with no clear winner.
