The next morning...

Kaelion woke up to some noises outside.

He tried to move, but found Miho tightly holding him by the neck, like a cat refusing to let go.

But the conversation outside made him completely awake.

It was Leo speaking.

"Lyswenna, while we are gone for the competition, repurpose this house as a personal smithy for the Gnomes and tell Brother James to put everything of importance in here."

"But, Lord, this house belongs to Sir Leon."

Kaelion could feel Leo dismissively waving his hand.

"We don't have enough space until the area expands. Just remodel Miho's house and make it bigger so that two people can reside in it. I am sure both won't be opposed to the idea."

Hearing all that, Kaelion became wide awake and rushed out of the house.

"What are you doing?!" he shouted the moment he burst through the door with a slam.

Leo lazily turned around to look at his dishevelled figure. His long purple hair was scattered, his shirt was untucked, and some buttons were unbuckled.

"Nothing, just making space for the Gnomes," Leo said, pointing at Miho's house.

"Hmm, I see. Even you also agree we are short on space. You never said you already started to sleep in Miho's house?"

Kaelion immediately realised his mistake and sharply looked around to check if anybody else had seen him. But there was only Lyswenna, who had a surprised expression on her face.

She finally understood what Leo was doing and immediately turned towards him.

"I understand, my lord. The work will be done."

"Wait! That's not what—" Kaelion began to explain, but Lyswenna was already walking away, pretending not to have heard anything.

"Bastard..." Kaelion sneered through gritted teeth, while Leo only smiled shamelessly.

Kaelion's anger only boiled further because they really hadn't gone all the way. Apparently, Miho still wasn't completely ready, and Kaelion didn't want to be forceful, so they slept holding each other as the first step. This only fueled Kaelion's anger.

At breakfast, Miho couldn't bring herself to show her face in front of everybody, so she didn't come. She knew experienced women like Sera and Lily could tell things at a glance, so she refrained.

When Lily wanted to go to her, Leo made her engage in some random talk that made her realise something was wrong.

She immediately shot a glance at Kaelion, who nearly spat out the food he was eating. He completely refused to meet Lily's gaze, but that was enough to let Lily know what had happened.

She only huffed and sat down, knowing it couldn't be helped.

Surprisingly, it was Lyswenna who went to deliver food to Miho.

They were only planning for the day when Naelith came from a distance and greeted Leo.

"My Lord, there is this one man looking to talk to you and Lady Lily."

"Us? Who is it?" Leo asked.

"He calls himself Alric and has been coming to the territory regularly for more than two months. But every time, he needed to go back because of your absence."

"Alric?" Leo looked towards Lily and then at James.

"Vritti's genius son, Alric?" James recalled the name because of Vritti's incessant bragging.

Naelith continued,

"He seems to be very adamant about having a talk. I have seen him traversing this dangerous, snow-capped forest on his wind-element hound every time he comes... He seemed to be short on funds to regularly afford a flying ride."

"Have him wait in the guest house. We will come in a short while."

With that, Naelith departed.

"Isn't he a genius? Why is he short on funds?" James asked genuinely.

Looks like Vritti's gaslighting worked on Brother James. Leo thought.

"Well, it might be true for Kendru. Here, his rank might be around the 700s, and I bet he must be saving every penny to transfer another letter to his family," Leo explained.

James's mouth was slightly open when he understood that genius could mean different things in different places, and Alric was quite average in the academy. Not to mention, a mid-2-star individual like Alric was indeed a genius in many academies too.

"Oh, now that I recall, Vritti gave me a letter to have it delivered to his son."

Saying that, he summoned it from the spatial ring Leo had given him.

"Let's go."

When Leo and the others reached the place, the first thing Leo saw after opening the door was Alric already kneeling on all fours, his head firmly pressed to the ground in a submissive posture.

"I APOLOGISE!!!" he shouted from the same position, which caught everybody by surprise.

Even James frowned at the sound, even though he had yet to see what was happening.

"What the hell are you doing? Stand up!" Leo said loudly, making Alric flinch as he reluctantly looked up at him. His rat-like face looked very ugly in that pitiful, apologetic expression.

"Please forgive me..." he squeaked like a real rat.

"What are you asking forgiveness for in the first place?" Leo asked.

At that, Lily stepped in, and Alric's apologetic expression turned into pure horror.

"Alric, did you forget what I said to you? Not only that, but you even dare to set foot on the territory?" she said with a disgusted expression.

"M-m-Miss Lily! I really didn't mean it the way you are seeing things! I came here to genuinely apologise for my past mistakes!"

At that time, Leo finally recalled the small incident Lily had described to him about her brief encounter with Alric back in the trial city when the leaderboard declared Leo dead.

He stopped Lily from beating Alric once again and spoke up.

"Let's hear him out first and see what he has to say."

Lily snorted but allowed it.

"T-thank you, Sir Leo. Thank you very much..." He was starting to see Leo like a god now, a god who handled such a dangerous girl.

"I-I am here to talk about my f-father and family. Please spare their li—Heehhh!"

Alric's eyes popped out when he saw James coming through the door next.

This simply meant Leo and Lily had already had a trip to Kendru and brought James here. Because there was no way James could afford the cost to come here by himself.

And if that were the case, Lily might have already killed his whole family.

He immediately cursed himself for being late as the colour drained from his face. His rat-like face now looked even more hideous due to his dehydrated appearance.
