Chapter 31: 31.End of Residency quest-2

The cave was divided into two sections.

The larger inner area, where Meena had been chained, was used mainly for storage and keeping old things.

The outer section was comparatively smaller, but contained newer looking books and materials.

Of course, it also held the many cages for imprisonment, among them was one particular cage where the girl was currently imprisoned.

Mylo looked around and spotted a table nearby, where various surgical instruments were gathered in a container.

It was dirty with many small wierd looking insects dwelling around.

’’That bastard...’’ He cursed under his breath again and moved closer to the cage.

Looking at the girl inside the cage, Mylo felt his stomach turn.

She was wrapped in a crude sack, just barely large enough to cover her small body.

There was no visible fat anywhere, only a skeletal frame hugged by scratched, battered skin.

Mylo looked at his own hand and compared their complexions.

Both of their skins were red, though hers was a slightly lighter shade.

His eyes fell on her wrists, where heavy chains had left deep, brutal scarring.

It looked as if the blood had long since stopped flowing through that part of her skin, the metal having sanded away at her flesh to create raw gouges.

Mylo’s mood sank completely.

This little girl... Where did he find her... Did he kidnapped her or...perhaps bought her...?

He stood up and began searching the outer section of the cave more thoroughly, hoping to find something edible or drinkable for the girl.

In the end, all he managed to locate were a few stacks of dark bread, likely what the lunatic used to feed his captives.

In a dark corner, he spotted a small clay container filled with red liquid.

’’Damn it,’’ Mylo muttered to himself. ’’Since everything here is either red or black, I can’t even tell if this is safe to drink. Should I try it?’’

Skeptical as he was, he took a tiny sip to test it.

Fortunately, it was just normal water. He grabbed a small metal cup sitting nearby and filled it to the brim.

He brought all the bread and water over to the cage and placed them inside.

He touched the cage whose lock was nothing but a twisted metal covered in chains.

’’I can’t just release her,’’ Mylo reasoned looking at the unconscious girl, whose head was buried inside her hands.

’’The forest outside is infested with Vexfangs. If she leaves, she’ll be torn apart. But even in here, there’s danger of them approachin.’’

The lunatic was dead, meaning any magic he maintained had likely dissipated.

But then Mylo remembered something Meena had mentioned: the bastard had hired someone else to set up the barrier around the cave.

If that’s true, there’s a good chance the Vexfangs still can’t get in. I just have to hope.

The other worry that I have is that time moves five times slower here.

Even if I come after one day, five days would have already passed here.

Leaving her alone doesn’t sit right with me but I don’t really have any option.

In the end he removed the chains.

If she is intelligent then she will be able to open up the cage. At that level of intelligence, she would know that staying here is better than going in the forest.

After setting down the chains, he summoned the bloody red screen and opened the location panel.

He reflexively tried to offer a silent prayer, but a sharp pain suddenly struck his chest.

...

[WARNING]

You have spoken about a nasty existence in a non-cussing way!

Doing so might result in your heart rejecting you!

....

Right... I can’t pray to that kind of existence anymore.

Mylo stared at the screen, almost sensing a pulse of displeasure radiating from it. He quickly apologized in his mind.

’’Sorry, sorry! I won’t mention that rascal god again.’’

’’Let’s just... make this right, yeah, hail Satan! Hail Lady Vespara!. Please get me back to Earth without any trouble! Hail Satan!’’

He raised both his hand and started chanting.

....

[WARNING]

STOP THAT IMMEDIATELY!!

.....

The sudden message frightened Mylo.

S-sorry sorry. I was just joking.

Raising his hands, he selected Earth.

Immediately, the same strange sensation he had felt when arriving in Narak took hold, though this time he managed to hold onto his consciousness.

The world seemed to flip upside down or rather, the space-time around him began folding in on itself.

A dense black blob formed in the air as space compressed into an orb.

Mylo’s body was pulled into the rotating trajectory, sucked completely into the sphere before it collapsed into nothingness.

The space-time distortion was gone, Mylo with it, leaving the red-glowing cave silent and empty.

’’Woaahhhh!!!’’

Mylo’s excited scream filled the quiet forest as he was thrown out of the same black hole that had consumed it.

’’That...! Was amazing!’’

Laying on the ground and looking at the night sky, Mylo’s eyes widened at the stars.

He looked around him, even the dark night wasn’t able to stop his vission from filling all kinds of colors.

The greenary around him, his own clothes, his skin, strangely enough, he was able to see all of that clearly.

Standing up and dusting off his clothes, he walked over to his backpack.

"I wasn’t even able to make use of the things I brought with me."

Picking it up, he pulled out his watch and phone.

It’s five... so I spent almost twenty-five hours in there. Should I say that’s more than expected, or less, considering my situation?

"So, hey system, what do you think? How did I do?" he asked aloud to the empty air, looking like a madman.

No related response came. Instead, a the blood screen flashed before him:

...

[NOTIFICATION]

Return to this exact spot to enter Narak again. This is your only route.

.....

As I thought, it’s a weird system.

Sometimes it acts like a normal, mechanical system, and other times it displays emotions.

"I have to come back here every single time, huh? That’s easier said than done."

Taking a look around the dense forest, he sighed and began walking back toward his flat.

The journey back was just as tough as coming here.

The confusing path, overgrown with dense fauna, only added to Mylo’s struggle.

Finally, he broke through the tree line and stepped onto the main sidewalk.

The sun had already started to rise, painting the surroundings in a faint orange hue.

Mylo felt a gentle breeze blow across his face, lifting his mood even further.

He walked past the college gates, noticing a few guards and campus workers going about their morning routines.

But as he reached the corner and turned toward his block, he spotted a black SUV.

It was only for a split second, but his good mood instantly vanished. He froze in his tracks.

His heart began to hammer in his chest.

He recognized that vehicle.

He had seen it multiple times in his previous life.

What? What is... what is it doing here?

Panicked, he pressed himself flat against the wall, sliding along it to get as close as he safely could.

He peeked at the building the SUV was parked in front of, it was the girls’ hostel.

There was a man standing outside, leaning on the SUV.

Just then, two men carried an unconscious girl out from inside the building.

Seeing her, Mylo’s blood ran cold.

A second later, it boiled with pure rage.

Seeing Reina getting carried off sent made his face contorte in pure fury.

Those fuckers... Those fucking bastards!

Disregarding all caution, he stormed directly toward them.

"Hey, look at that!," one of the men signaled, noticing Mylo sprinting in their direction.

He tried to warn his partner, but it was already too late.

Mylo crashed full force into the other guy, knocking them him down and forcing the men to drop Reina!

’’Hey, who the fuck are you, bastard?!’’the man leaning against the car shouted.

But Mylo was in no mood to talk. His body was working on pure adrenaline.

Pivoting on his heel, he whipped his leg around and drove a heavy kick right into the face of the crouched man beside him.

’’Ughhh!!’’

Without breaking momentum, he lunged at the second man, landing a violent right hook straight across his jaw.

’’Bahavaa!’’

Before he could recover, the third man quickly assessed the situation and charged directly at Mylo.

The man kicked Mylo square in the chest, throwing him backward onto the pavement.

’’Now you’ve done it, bastard. You aren’t leaving here alive today!"

He stalked toward Mylo, who was still on the ground coughing for air.

But the moment the man came within range, Mylo surged upward in a flash!

He drove an open-palm strike straight into the man’s stomach, catching him completely off guard.

....

[NOTIFICATION]

Active use of abilities not possible in earth yet.

....

Before he could recover, Mylo slipped around his side, grabbed him around the waist, and used his momentum to hurl him headfirst into the wall.

Mylo cocked his fist to finish him, but was suddenly shoved from behind by the man he had kicked earlier.

’’Hey, Boss, let’s get out of here!" the man shouted, addressing the one slammed against the wall. ’’We can’t cause a scene here!"

The brown haired boss glared at Mylo with eyes bloodshot with rage, barely holding back his fury.

’’Remember my face," he spat. "You better remember this face, you motherfucker! It’s the last thing you’ll see before I bury you six feet under!"

Without another word, all three men piled into the SUV and sped off, leaving Raina and Mylo behind on the ground.

Mylo stood up, his gaze locked on the SUV as it rounded the corner and disappeared from sight.

It had no license plate, but Mylo didn’t need one to know who they were.

His face burned with pure fury, his hands and legs trembling, the adrenaline pumping through his veins.

This time... I will not lose... any part of my life to you.

’’Braden Vance.’’
