Chapter 84: 84.Life that requires struggle-5

The Barebone cried out in a hollow, agonizing screech, the pleasure rattled its bones, its entire frame trembling as its resistance against the earth completely faltered.

Kreeet-tret-ret-reeeeee

Tritia tightened her grip on its hind leg, roared with everything she had, and flipped the massive creature completely onto its back.

’’Hyaaa?!’’

Mylo flipped with it, dangling precariously from its spine.

He tried to work his hands higher up its neck, but before he could, the Barebone thrashed wildly, grinding Mylo’s back straight into the hard, jagged ground.

’’urghhh!!’’

He felt the skin on his back tearing away, and his grip instantly slipped.

Tritia rushed in to reclaim control, but the monster’s heavy, bony tail came whipping around from the side, slamming directly into her arms.

The force launched her through the air, though she managed to twist mid-flight and land on her feet.

Clenching her teeth against the sharp, throbbing pain, she cradled her left arm and spat a mouthful of blood onto the soil. Regaining her balance, she charged forward again.

"Ah!"

A surprised gasp escaped her lips as Mylo suddenly emerged from the swirling black smoke, catching her by the wrist.

"Quickly... use your skill!" he gasped in a single, desperate breath.

"No! But you-"

"We don’t have time! Quickly, use it!"

Tritia nearly yanked her hand back at the sight of his blood-drenched body, but seeing the raw urgency in his eyes, she forced herself to activate it.

’’Mutual healing!’’

The crushing weight on her left arm instantly vanished, and a surge of vitality washed away a massive portion of her exhaustion.

In sharp contrast, Mylo collapsed straight to his knees, violently coughing up a dark pool of blood.

Before Tritia could even scream his name, he looked up through strained eyes.

"Please... buy me a few seconds..."

Another heavy fit of coughing seized him.

Tritia’s eyes darted frantically between Mylo’s broken state and the looming threat of the Barebone. Setting her jaw, she dropped to all fours and sprinted straight toward the monster.

Clutching his chest, Mylo shook his head violently, forcing his fracturing consciousness to focus.

"Sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb! sensory numb!’’

I don’t have enough Pran... It’s too fast, Mylo thought through the haze of agony. But I felt it. At that moment, I felt my hand sliding toward its back. I know where its weakness is!

He glanced back through the swirling dust, his eyes catching a faint, rhythmic red light.

Is that... is that Tritia? Is that glow coming from her?

The Barebone’s unnatural agility made it move almost like a fish swimming through the air.

Touching the earth for only split seconds at a time, it hovered and darted continuously, snapping its razor fangs and whipping its bony tail in every direction.

Its sole target was the faint red streak blurring across the battlefield.

Tritia maneuvered on all fours, launching off the ground, vaulting off tree trunks, and weaving through the monster’s tail swipes.

But all she could manage was a distraction. No matter where her strikes landed, the monster’s dense bone hide didn’t suffer so much as a scratch.

Pain throbbed through her fingertips with every blow, making her feel as though her claws would snap clean off.

She screamed in frustration, driving her claws down once more, only for the same result.

"Tritia!"

Mylo’s roar cut through the air as the heavy metallic CLANG of a block echoed out.

"I’ll hold this bastard! Aim for the base of its tail!"

Registering the order, Tritia reflexively pulled back.

The Barebone’s heavy tail whipped after her in pursuit, but Mylo’s two-spiked antler slammed upward, deflecting the blow trajectory.

"Don’t you dare ignore me!" Mylo bellowed.

Sprinting with everything he had, Mylo ducked beneath another violent tail sweep and launched a series of desperate attacks with his machete.

He hacked at its hind legs repeatedly, but the steel bounced off uselessly. The Barebone thrashed, snapping its massive jaws toward Mylo’s neck.

Slipping past the fangs by a hair’s breadth, Mylo charged straight into the monster’s open maw.

Kreeee-ter-reeee!

A piercing screech tore from the Barebone’s throat.

’’Haaaaaaaaaaaa!!!’’

Screaming back, Mylo tossed his antler aside, reached out with his left hand, and shoved his machete straight into the creature’s mouth with all his weight.

Without hesitation, the Barebone snapped its jaw shut onto the blade.

’’Argaaa!’’

Mylo let out a sharp cry of pain, but the grimace quickly shifted into a manic smile.

Throwing his full weight forward, he used his left hand to clamp down on the creature’s snout, digging his boots into the soil to anchor the monster to the earth.

Bliss drain! Bliss drain! Bliss drain!!!

"Tritia! NOW! YOUR CHANCE!" he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Tritia bolted up the length of the Barebone’s thrashed tail.

Reaching the base, she leapt high into the air and brought both hands down with catastrophic force.

Skreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

’’Haaaaaaaaaaa!!!!’’

The Barebone writhed violently, but Mylo roared, his muscles tearing as he pinned its head in place.

A brilliant red light erupted from Tritia’s claws. In a single crimson flash, her hands swept through the bone at the base of the tail.

CRACK!

Skri-te-te-te-te-te!

Severed clean from its body, the heavy bony tail crashed to the ground. The Barebone thrashed in agony, its mouth forced wide open.

’’Ha! Haah! Ayahh!!’’

The moment the jaw pressure slacked, Mylo yanked his hand and machete free.

The monster stumbled, completely off-balance without its tail. Its fluid momentum shattered, leaving its massive frame staggering erratically across the dirt.

Mylo gripped his machete with both hands, tapping the pommel twice against the hard ground to reset his stance.

Breathing heavily, he surged forward once more.

"Tritia, don’t let this chance go! I’ll attack from behind, draw its focus to the front!"

Tritia nodded fiercely. Dropping low, she sprinted forward like a hunting cheetah, flashing past the monster’s front and dragging her claws across its face.

Her eyes went wide. She felt her claws slice clean through the outer bone layer this time.

’Hmm! I can wound it now!’

She glanced down at her hands for a fraction of a second. The crimson light radiating from her claws was glowing significantly brighter.

’I can do this. I can kill it!’

With renewed vigor, Tritia’s speed doubled. She blurred around the staggering beast, striking from every angle. Her claw-like nails carved deep gasps across the Barebone’s heavy armor, turning its body into a shredded mess.

Tre-te! re-tte! krete!

The Barebone shrieked in high-pitched agony.

Reaching its rear, Mylo leapt onto the staggering beast.

Riding the chaotic movements was difficult, but throwing his entire body weight onto the handle, he drove his machete deep into the the base of its severed tail.

The steel penetrated deep into the bone.

Mylo planted his boots, grabbed the monster’s spine and ribs on both sides, and pulled outward with every ounce of power left in his body.

Skreeeeeeettt!!!!!

A horrific snapping sound, like thick bamboo splintering in half, echoed through the forest as Mylo screamed at the top of his lungs, ripping the ribcage apart.

The Barebone collapsed, its frame crashing hard against the earth, twitching helplessly like a dying fish out of water.

"Tritia, help me!" Mylo roared.

Tritia dashed over instantly. Mylo let go of one side, gripped the other, and dug his heels in. Tritia grabbed the opposing side.

With a synchronized roar, they pulled in opposite directions.

The Barebone’s agonizing shrieks filled the entire forest as they exerted everything they had, ripping the creature clean in half down the center.

Mylo’s heavy, ragged gasps and Tritia’s strained breathing were the only sounds remaining in the clearing.

Tritia lay on the ground, her gaze lost upwards as a whisper escaped her mouth.

’’...Faith without question...’’

As her understanding came, she pushed her upwards, looking at Mylo who was confirming something in the air.

She wanted to run up take shelter under his frame but an uneasy feeling started to grow in her heart.

[Considerate Pran absorbed]

[Pran(170->201)]

Slowly, the thick cloud of black dust began to settle. From a few meters away, Mylo could faintly see Tritia’s claws radiating a sharp, crimson glow.

He felt the desire to run to her and take her in his embrace and never let go

In front of his own eyes, a bloody red notification screen hovered in the air.

Suddenly, his legs buckled beneath him.

Mylo reached out and slammed his hand against the collapsed ribs of the dead Barebone, using the monster’s carcass to keep himself upright.

Have I really gotten this weak?

The thought had barely crossed his mind before a deep, guttural vibration echoed across the entire region.

Mylo shot a glance toward Tritia. She was scanning their surroundings, her expression lost in utter confusion.

The ground beneath their boots began to violently heave.

The deafening screech of splintering wood filled the air, sounding as if the entire forest was being torn apart at its roots.

Mylo darted his eyes in every direction. Unnatural wind began to whip through the trees, a severe tempest he had never experienced in the Forest of No Shade before.

He looked back toward Tritia just as another blood-red system screen flashed open directly before his eyes.

Huh? No way... You can’t do this. Not after all of this!

Mylo’s panicked eyes shifted from Tritia toward the vast lake stretching out behind her.

Seeing the terror painted across Mylo’s face, Tritia whipped her head around.

Instantly, every hair on her body stood on end as raw, instinctual fear gripped her.

The lake water was overflowing its banks, churning violently before surging skyward.

It looked as though a massive geyser was about to erupt, but instead, an enormous shadow rose from the depths.

It continued to ascend, up, up, and higher still, blotting out the sky.

When it finally came to a halt, Mylo felt as though he was standing at the base of a twelve-story apartment complex.

The entity’s body glowed with a faint, crimson hue.

Two massive, pillar-like arms hung from its shoulders, its torso spanning wider than the footprint of an entire residential building.

It stood on two massive, pillar-like legs, covered in pitch-black hide with four jagged tusks dripping black drool and glowing red-and-black eyes.

Before Mylo could even process the sight, yet another bloody red screen materialised in front of his face.
