Chapter 144: Chapter 142: The Interview

Pei Xianjue had Feng Ling’s entire day planned out to a T.

It started right after breakfast with a facial, skincare, and hair treatment. Then came a state banquet-level lunch, and after a short afternoon break, she and Pei Xianjue set off to act as interviewers.

They rode in a spacious luxury van, which was followed by a clean, shiny big rig meant to transport the Cat Spider and Cat Owl.

The truck was so clean it looked brand new, making Feng Ling suspect that Pei Xianjue had just bought it.

"There are sixteen people coming for the interview today," Pei Xianjue said inside the van. "I’ll choose one. If the others also perform well, the Pei Group will sign Hunter contracts with them."

Feng Ling glanced at her. "During last night’s meeting, you said it wasn’t the right time to move forward with the Hunter program. Now you’re already starting to sign people?"

"The company’s operations have nothing to do with me~" Pei Xianjue said with a grin. "As for my statements in the meeting, well, I have to maintain the purity of my personal stance."

Feng Ling couldn’t be bothered to comment. She turned to look out the window. "And after these Hunters sign their contracts? What exactly will they do?"

She picked up a stack of documents and handed them to Feng Ling. "Want to take a look? These are the résumés of the people interviewing."

Feng Ling casually flipped through them.

The photos on the résumés were all of young people, both men and women, with pleasant features. It really did look like they were selected with stardom in mind.

She wasn’t very interested and handed the résumés back to Pei Xianjue.

Rather than reading text and looking at photos, she was more interested in seeing how these people actually used their respective abilities.

The van drove into the Yuquan Forest Farm.

After passing through lush woodland on both sides, they came to a wide, flat, grassy field surrounded by trees.

A bus was parked on the concrete road ahead. The company had clearly already brought the interviewees here.

She turned back to look at Huangfu Miaomiao.

"There’s a player..." Huangfu Miaomiao whispered, huddled inside the van.

Feng Ling froze for a moment, then looked toward the group of people walking away. "Which one?"

Huangfu Miaomiao: "The one in the gray T-shirt."

Feng Ling glanced over again. The person was walking among the other interviewees, laughing and chatting with them, acting completely natural.

She couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

"What do we do?" Huangfu Miaomiao asked nervously. "Sh-should we cancel the interviews? What if something dangerous happens..."

Feng Ling looked away from the group and back at Huangfu Miaomiao. "Strange. Why are you so scared all of a sudden? Weren’t you pretty brave back in the Maze?"

Huangfu Miaomiao’s lower lip trembled. "That was different..."

"You just stay in the van and enjoy the AC," Feng Ling said, closing the door. She turned and walked toward the big rig behind them to let out the Cat Spider and Cat Owl.

The most important thing right now was taking the "cats" for a walk.

The moment it was out of the truck, the Cat Spider took off, running wild!

The Cat Owl flapped its wings and gracefully soared into the air.

Feng Ling let out a breath and walked unhurriedly toward the grassy field to catch up with Pei Xianjue. ’So what if there’s an Alien Species here?’ she thought. ’Maybe it’s just looking for a job.’
