Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 30 - 28: You Can Write an IOUChapter 30: Chapter 28: You Can Write an IOU
Feng Ling didn’t understand why Zhou Diao felt the need to emphasize his status as captain.
However, she did figure something else out—
No wonder Zhou Diao only had his two arms transformed into Beast Claws most of the time, instead of maintaining his full Hellhound form. He was conserving his stamina.
She turned and asked Huangfu Miaomiao, "That Little Jelly you drink, does it work on humans?"
Huangfu Miaomiao paused. "It should... work, I guess."
"Get him a pack," Feng Ling said, pointing at Zhou Diao.
’He’s drained. He needs a boost.’
Zhou Diao: "..."
Huangfu Miaomiao: "..."
Neither of them looked very happy.
One was repulsed by the idea of using a product from an Alien Species;
The other was reluctant to part with her hard-earned points.
Huangfu Miaomiao unwillingly used her points to redeem a small pack of Nutrient Supplement and handed it to Feng Ling.
Feng Ling, in turn, tossed it to Zhou Diao.
Zhou Diao changed one of his Beast Claws back into a human hand to catch it in midair, silently giving himself a pep talk: ’Focus on the bigger picture, focus on the bigger picture...’
He bit open the seal on the package and sucked down the Nutrient Supplement in one go.
The texture was like concentrated fruit juice with a slightly gelatinous feel and was subtly sweet. After he drank it, his fatigue gradually faded. He felt his energy return, and even his mind felt stimulated.
The effect was astonishing.
But Zhou Diao couldn’t relax. This was some kind of biotech miracle from an Alien Species. The better it worked, the more stressed he felt.
Zhou Diao looked at Feng Ling with a grave expression and asked, "...Are there any side effects?"
Feng Ling said, "Never tried it, so I wouldn’t know."
Zhou Diao: "..."
Feng Ling then said to Huangfu Miaomiao, "That Recovery Potion looks pretty useful too. Get one out for Old Cao."
In truth, she wasn’t close with Cao Hongyi. The only reason she called him that was because she’d forgotten his full name.
Huangfu Miaomiao looked like she was about to cry. "That one’s really expensive. If I redeem it, I’ll only have 2 points left..."
Feng Ling said in a relaxed tone, "You can have the Inspection Bureau write you an IOU. Don’t you get points for killing those bugs? One potion for a few bugs, and you’ll make it back, right?"
"Hey, don’t go making decisions on your own," Zhou Diao couldn’t listen anymore. The Inspection Bureau writing an IOU for an Alien Species—the very idea sounded absurd!
Feng Ling just smiled nonchalantly. "That pack of Little Jelly from just now counts as one bug. You already drank it, so don’t even think about backing out."
Zhou Diao was left speechless.
Feng Ling then added coolly, "We’ve already wasted enough time here. If we dawdle any longer, the Pollution Body might hatch a few more bugs. Let’s hurry up. Once that leg is healed, we won’t have to be so hesitant when we’re laying out the plan."
With it put that way, there was really no reason to refuse.
The only one who was suffering was Huangfu Miaomiao.
She redeemed a recovery potion. Seeing her balance drop to a pitiful "2," her heart ached. She couldn’t bear to look a second time and sullenly stuffed the injector into Cao Hongyi’s hand.
"Inject it into your leg," Huangfu Miaomiao said sadly.
Watching from the side, Zhou Diao grew agitated. "I’ll pay you back in the future, with interest!"
Huangfu Miaomiao pouted, still looking completely crestfallen, which only made Zhou Diao more exasperated.
Feng Ling saw Cao Hongyi inject the potion. While waiting for the drug to take effect, she silently closed her eyes—
Earlier, when she had attacked the Pollution Body, she had also used "Mother’s Thoughts."
A red mist appeared before her eyes.
Feng Ling’s gaze followed the guidance of the mist, trying to find the Pollution Body’s location.
However, after tracking it for a little over ten meters, she had to give up.
Because it was too dark inside the caves.
Every tunnel was pitch-black, and she couldn’t see a thing, which rendered her tracking ability useless.
Feng Ling opened her eyes, her mood soured.
By now, Cao Hongyi’s leg injury had mostly healed. While he couldn’t exactly sprint, it barely affected his ability to walk.
Everyone was happy for Cao Hongyi. Even Zhou Diao’s expression had brightened considerably. However, when he saw Feng Ling’s cold face, he immediately wiped the smile off his own, not wanting to lose face in front of her.
"Don’t worry. I’ll make sure to leave enough bugs for you. We’ll settle this debt before we leave the caves," Zhou Diao said seriously.
Feng Ling gave a distracted "Mm" and said, "Let’s stick to the plan."
Zhou Diao: "..."
’Seriously? I’m trying to be accommodating here, so why are you giving me that look?!’
’Zhou Diao was fuming. He really couldn’t figure Feng Ling out. A moment ago, she was enthusiastically discussing how to deal with the Pollution Body with him, and now she had suddenly become cold and distant. What happened? He hadn’t done anything to provoke her!’
"Of course we’re sticking to the plan..." Zhou Diao ground his back teeth in annoyance and looked at Qin Liang. "Export the data for her."
Qin Liang tapped the detector a few times, removed the internal chip, and handed it to Feng Ling with great solemnity.
"You saw the map earlier, you’ve memorized it, right?" Since it concerned the mission, Zhou Diao was serious and patient as he instructed Feng Ling. "These caves are all connected. After you leave from here, keep going left, and you’ll get back to the tunnel leading to the parking lot. I’ll make as much noise as possible to attract the bugs and the Pollution Body, buying you time."
"Got it," Feng Ling said, pocketing the chip.
Zhou Diao took out a combat knife and handed it to Fang Ye. "Feng Ling needs to get this map data out as quickly as possible, so she can’t take you with her. You’ll have to stick with us. We’ll do our best to ensure your safety, but if a crisis occurs, you’d better figure out a way to protect yourself, because we might not be able to rescue you in time."
Fang Ye nervously took the knife and nodded forcefully. "I-I’ll do my best not to be a burden."
Zhou Diao let out a breath and stood up. "Okay, move out!"
...
The group split in two.
Feng Ling and Huangfu Miaomiao left first, their figures quickly disappearing into the darkness.
The remaining members, led by Zhou Diao, entered another cave opening, on full alert.
...
Feng Ling moved quickly.
Huangfu Miaomiao stuck close to her side, not daring to stray even half a meter away.
Loud, intermittent banging sounds echoed from the distance. It had to be the noise Zhou Diao’s group was deliberately making.
With no bugs to interfere, Feng Ling quickly found the cave entrance leading to the parking lot. The flashlight illuminated the tunnel, and before long, she saw the same protruding rock that Cao Hongyi had hit his head on earlier.
’Just a little further and my phone will have a signal. I can call Su Yuqing directly and have him send someone to the pit in the parking lot to get the chip. That would be much faster.’
’After I’ve delivered the chip, I want to come back to the caves and see what’s really inside that deep pit that looks like a uterus.’
SKKRR...
SKKRR...
Feng Ling stopped in her tracks and whipped her head around.
Huangfu Miaomiao, who was right behind her, nearly crashed into her. Before she could even ask what was wrong, Feng Ling grabbed her by the collar and—WHOOSH—flung her through the air to the front of the tunnel!
And where she had just been standing, a bug-like monster with a human face lunged forward!
"It’s the Pollution Body!" Huangfu Miaomiao screamed in terror.
The Pollution Body had followed them!
’But how could this be? Didn’t Zhou Diao lure it away?!’
