Chapter 31: Chapter 29: What Should She Eat?

Feng Ling’s eyes were icy. Her two Bone Blades crossed swiftly in front of her, blocking the Pollution Body’s attack!

The flashlight’s intense beam fell upon the Pollution Body, revealing every segmented limb and intricate pattern in stark detail—

This mutated body had the form of the insect monsters from before, but also possessed human hair and skin. These two sets of biological traits were grotesquely melded together. Its body was even larger, and its neck, like a geoduck’s, could extend and retract several meters.

The mandibles at the end of its neck were clamped tightly around a human head. Through squeezing and pulling, it forced the human face into a bizarre, exaggerated expression. Its vocal cords also mimicked human speech:

"I want... Card..."

Feng Ling whipped up a Bone Blade and stabbed viciously at the human face!

The Pollution Body’s neck retracted quickly, making her thrust hit nothing but air. The human head then slid deep into its gullet, and the mandibles at the opening of its neck splayed out menacingly. Like a harvester, they rushed toward Feng Ling on a foul wind!

In this situation, she should have swung her Bone Blades to sever the long, flexible neck!

But the narrow tunnel restricted her movements. Her Bone Blades couldn’t be swung wide; they could only be used for forward Thrusts.

Feng Ling was furious. While rapidly retreating, she kept up her Thrust attacks against the Pollution Body, itching to leave this cramped space and have a proper slaughter somewhere more open.

The Pollution Body’s massive mandibles snapped open and shut. Her Bone Blades were gradually being overpowered. Even though she had hit the target several times, the wounds created by her Thrusts didn’t seem to cause the Pollution Body any significant pain.

Feng Ling had killed bugs before. She knew very well that to kill it, she had to either slice it in two or run it through completely.

The holes made by her Thrusts were nothing more than a tickle to the Pollution Body.

The end of the tunnel was fast approaching. If she retreated any further, she would reach the near-vertical pit in the parking garage. From there, they would need ropes to climb out.

Once she was backed into that corner, she would be at an even greater disadvantage.

Huangfu Miaomiao started to panic too. She only had one arm; without Feng Ling’s help, she’d never be able to climb out.

Just then, the Pollution Body’s mandibles opened again, revealing the human face deep within its throat.

The face was squeezed into a grotesque smile, as if it had already foreseen their deaths. It even let out a "HEH HEH" laugh.

Feng Ling suddenly felt something was wrong.

’Super Strong Chao’s face had been shot. Why aren’t there any wounds on this one?’

’Is this face even Super Strong Chao’s?’

The features were too distorted, the skull squeezed out of shape. It was impossible to make out its original appearance.

’Whether it is or not, I have to find a way to break this stalemate.’

’How?’

’Since piercing its neck, carapace, and appendages isn’t doing enough damage, I’ll have to aim for its weak point!’

Feng Ling gritted her teeth, thrusting a Bone Blade straight between the mandibles!

She had moved as fast as she possibly could, but when the Bone Blade entered the creature’s mouthparts, it was clamped down on by the two mandibles!

Pain shot through her. Feng Ling’s entire body tensed, and cold sweat poured down her forehead like rain.

It was like a tug-of-war. She wouldn’t withdraw her Bone Blade, and the Pollution Body refused to release its mandibles!

A slight dizziness began to cloud her vision. She heard a sound like metal scraping against a blackboard, a high-pitched ZZZT, followed by a CRACK! The immense biting force pierced through her Bone Blade!

Feng Ling cried out in pain, her body trembling uncontrollably from the agony.

GRIND, GRIND...

The mandibles continued to apply pressure. Her Bone Blade was about to be chewed to pieces!

Hiding behind Feng Ling, Huangfu Miaomiao was so frightened by the scene that tears welled up in her eyes. She held up her Iron Hammer, hesitating, wondering if she should go help. But just as she raised the hammer, Feng Ling shot her a ferocious glare.

"Get back!" Feng Ling snarled, then twisted and jammed her other Bone Blade between the two mandibles as well!

Her eyes were bloodshot, her face slick with cold sweat, and she had bitten her gums so hard they were bleeding. She looked utterly wretched, yet Huangfu Miaomiao could see a flicker of unbelievable pleasure in her fiery gaze.

"She’s crazy... completely crazy..." Huangfu Miaomiao stammered, trembling. She couldn’t understand it. What kind of person was Feng Ling?!

Feng Ling took a deep breath, forcing herself to get used to the immense pain coming from her Bone Blade.

Then, she controlled her other Bone Blade and, as if cutting a steak, began to saw with all her might!—

The sharp serrations on the blade’s edge began to work. The Pollution Body shrieked. Realizing Feng Ling’s intention, it tried to open its mandibles and escape!

But Feng Ling wouldn’t let it get its way!

She angled the pierced Bone Blade, locking the mandibles firmly in place. Her other Bone Blade continued to saw through the creature’s body like a log!

With its mouthparts pinned, the rest of the Pollution Body’s body struggled desperately in the tunnel, writhing madly!

For a moment, the entire tunnel trembled, and dust filled the air!

Still, Feng Ling did not let go!

At the cost of one Bone Blade, she sawed, bit by bit, through its mouthparts, through its neck, then its chest, and finally its belly plate and back shell...

Blood and slime gushed out. The struggling, agonized creature was finally cut open, as if ground down by a dull knife. The human head inside was churned into a pulp.

The tremors stopped.

The dust settled.

Feng Ling let out a breath and collapsed onto the ground, exhausted. Her back was soaked through with sweat.

She pulled out her pierced Bone Blade. Not only did it have a palm-sized hole in it, but it was also covered in jagged cracks and bloodstained fissures. It had lost its sharpness and edge.

Terrified out of her wits, Huangfu Miaomiao finally found her voice and said tearfully, "I don’t have any points left to exchange for medicine for you!"

Feng Ling sat on the ground, catching her breath. Her face was expressionless as she said, "This isn’t the same Pollution Body from before."

"What?" Huangfu Miaomiao was incredulous. "Are you saying there’s more than one Pollution Body in this cave?"

"I don’t know how many there are, but this definitely isn’t the one from before." Feng Ling used the rock wall to slowly pull herself to her feet. "I marked the other Pollution Body. This isn’t it. Something’s probably going to happen to Zhou Diao’s group."

Huangfu Miaomiao was at a complete loss. "Then... then what do we do..."

"Get out first, then save them." She turned and started walking back up.

’No matter what, I have to get this chip out first.’

"But what about your injury?" Huangfu Miaomiao asked anxiously. "Can you recover from that quickly? Maybe we should just go back. If another Pollution Body shows up, you won’t be able to handle it..."

Feng Ling suddenly stopped and turned, staring at Huangfu Miaomiao without a word.

Her face was shrouded in darkness, her expression unreadable. The trickle of blood at the corner of her mouth gave her the cold, harsh look of a Vampire.

Huangfu Miaomiao’s heart skipped a beat, and she forgot what she was going to say.

Feng Ling just kept staring silently.

After a few seconds, she looked away and continued walking.

Huangfu Miaomiao was frightened by Feng Ling’s appearance and didn’t dare say another word.

What she didn’t know was that Feng Ling was hungry again.

The moment she had sliced open the Pollution Body, an intense desire to eat had surged within her.

This feeling was familiar to Feng Ling. When she acquired the Killing Bee and Mantis Cards, a similar hunger, a desire to eat, had also appeared inside her.

She couldn’t possibly eat the corpse of an Alien Species.

Nor could she stomach a filthy, ugly Pollution Body.

’So, what should I eat?’

’Have I been unable to sate my hunger because I’ve been choosing the wrong food?’ And so, she looked at Huangfu Miaomiao—

Young, tender, delicious, and nutritious.
