Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 60 - 58: No Martial VirtueChapter 60: Chapter 58: No Martial Virtue
"A wall?" Zhou Diao looked up as well.
Feng Ling could move freely in the dark, but Zhou Diao couldn’t, so he had brought a small flashlight.
He switched on the flashlight, and a bright beam illuminated the wall, immediately capturing his attention.
"What the heck is this..." Zhou Diao leaned in and sniffed. "Is this place growing mold?"
The light-colored wall was stained with a substance in garish colors—red, yellow, blue, green—a vibrant, chaotic rainbow. It looked as if it had bloomed, but while flowers usually evoke pleasant thoughts, this sight only brought to mind decaying mold.
The higher they went up the stairs, the more of this mold they saw, and the thicker it became.
When the two reached the fourth floor, Feng Ling discovered the ceiling was completely covered in a layer of the mold. It crisscrossed in bold, vivid colors and various shapes, some sprouting leaves, others blooming like flowers, creating a hallucinatory effect.
"You think this stuff is poisonous?" Zhou Diao muttered.
Things with such vibrant colors always felt dangerous.
Feng Ling said, "I’m going up to check it out."
"Aren’t we supposed to be rescuing someone from 414?" Zhou Diao asked in a hushed voice.
Feng Ling looked at the stairs above. "I’ll be right back down. Keep an eye out for me."
"Then be quick," Zhou Diao replied.
Feng Ling lightened her steps and ran up. Upon reaching the fifth floor, she found the mold was no longer just a thin layer on the walls and ceiling. It had become swollen and thick, squeezing the once straight and clear corridor into a narrow slit.
It was as if she had entered the body of some creature, a place filled with organs and tumors of every color.
Feng Ling continued upward, but the stairs became impassable halfway up.
The sixth floor was completely choked with the stuff.
Feng Ling took out her phone, snapped a few photos, and sent them to the mission group chat. Then she headed downstairs, using her walkie-talkie to inform Su Yuqing.
"The hotel’s fifth and sixth floors are overgrown with a slime-mold-like organism. It hasn’t shown any aggression so far, but I suspect there’s a Pollution Body in this hotel."
After a moment of thought, Su Yuqing replied, "Once the evacuation is complete, I’ll send in a demolition team."
"When will the evacuation be complete?" Feng Ling asked.
Su Yuqing replied, "The first floor guests have been cleared. The Special Attack Team has just reached the second floor."
Feng Ling said nothing.
She had already returned to the fire escape landing on the fourth floor and saw that Zhou Diao had turned off his flashlight.
"Don’t you think this is a little weird?" Zhou Diao whispered to her. "After the power went out, there should have been plenty of guests coming out of their rooms, complaining about the blackout or trying to find staff. But this floor... it’s dead silent. Not a single guest has come out."
Zhou Diao murmured, "Even if this entire floor is occupied by Alien Species, wouldn’t they find a sudden power outage strange? There’s not a single sound. It’s almost as if... they were prepared for it."
"Maybe they know I’m here." Feng Ling drew the Bone Blade from her shoulder, pushed the fire door to the stairwell open a crack, and peered out.
"I’m going to test the waters," she said.
"Hey, be careful," Zhou Diao warned her. "The evacuation downstairs isn’t finished yet."
"Then you stay here. Don’t let a single Alien Species get past you and go downstairs." Feng Ling pushed open the fire door, which let out a creaking sound.
Zhou Diao nodded in agreement.
But after nodding, he felt something was off. ’How am I turning into the sidekick? I’m supposed to be the main force!’
’Besides, I’m on the official roster. Why should I take orders from a freelancer?’
"Hey..." Zhou Diao wanted to discuss it further with her, but Feng Ling had already passed through the metal fire door and was knocking on the door closest to the stairwell.
Zhou Diao: "..."
KNOCK, KNOCK.
The two knocks were exceptionally loud in the silent corridor.
"Who is it?" a voice asked from inside.
"The power’s out. I’m bringing candles to the guests," Feng Ling answered calmly.
"Oh, I’ll get the door." A rustling sound came from inside.
Feng Ling waited patiently.
The sound grew closer...
BAM!!!
The door in front of her suddenly exploded! A harpoon-like weapon burst through the wood, aiming straight for Feng Ling!
She was prepared. She twisted her body to dodge the attack, and at the same time, the Teeth and Claws hovering above her shot down, hooked the "harpoon," and yanked it upward, pulling a head out from the splintered door!
It turned out the harpoon was actually a sharp horn growing from the creature’s head.
Feng Ling used her Teeth and Claws to drag the Alien Species out and pin it against the wall. "Do you have any search or tracking abilities?" she asked.
The Alien Species’s cheek was pressed flat against the wall as it struggled to answer, "N-No..."
Blood sprayed across the wall in a fan shape.
The Alien Species barely had time to react before the Bone Blade severed its neck.
The hallway grew even quieter.
Even with the addition of a twitching, bleeding corpse, it somehow felt more silent than before.
It was as if... the creatures in every room were holding their breath, waiting for something.
Feng Ling turned toward the door on the opposite side of the hall and knocked twice.
KNOCK, KNOCK—
"The power’s out. I’m bringing candles to the guests," she said.
There was no sound from inside.
It was silent.
"Is this room empty?" Feng Ling murmured. "Oh well, I’ll check the next one."
She pretended to walk away.
After two or three steps, she heard a faint sound from the door behind her. The lock was slowly turning, just about to click open—
Feng Ling couldn’t help but let out a soft laugh.
The Teeth and Claws on her back struck like a swift snake, smashing the door open with a BAM!
A short figure fled from the room in a panic!
Another set of Teeth and Claws quickly clamped down on it! Sharp fangs pierced its spine, lifting it straight into the air.
It was very small, about the same size as Huangfu Miaomiao, but its face was covered in fur. It looked like a mutated rat—not cute at all.
Feng Ling asked it, "Do you have any search or tracking abilities?"
"No! No!" it shrieked as it struggled, its voice ear-piercing. "It’s the dwarf! The dwarf can detect the Boss’s location!!!"
A dwarf?
’Aren’t you a dwarf yourself?’ Feng Ling thought. ’Could there really be someone shorter than you?’
Behind her, doors began to open one after another.
Feng Ling’s Teeth and Claws clamped down again, crushing the little dwarf’s spine.
She tossed the corpse aside and turned around to see that more than a dozen doors on both sides of the fourth-floor corridor had opened. One after another, bizarrely shaped Alien Species stepped out, staring in her direction through the darkness.
The small Cat Spider on her body sensed the danger and let out a threatening HISS, while the Cat Owl on her other side flapped its wings nervously.
"Whoa..." Feng Ling said with a smile. "Finally decided to show yourselves? So, which one of you is the dwarf?"
No one spoke.
Feng Ling pulled a grenade from her waist pouch and added, "How about you all team up? That way, no matter who lands the final blow on me, everyone else will get to share the points."
The Alien Species in the darkness looked at each other, seeming to consider Feng Ling’s proposal. If they rushed in alone to fight the hidden Boss, what if someone else just reaped the rewards in the end?
Feng Ling pulled the pin from the grenade and laughed to herself. ’A bunch of idiots.’
Taking advantage of the Alien Species’ momentary distraction, she suddenly threw the grenade!
Then she spun around, sprinted toward the stairwell fire door, and ducked inside, slamming it shut with a BAM!
Behind the door, Zhou Diao was confused. He only heard Feng Ling yell "Get down!" before a massive explosion rocked the entire floor!
"Damn, you play dirty!" Zhou Diao sputtered, a mouthful of dust in his mouth.
Feng Ling laughed. "Why would I play fair with Alien Species?"
