Alien Species Invasion? I Kill Them Back.
Chapter 61 - 59: Give Me a HammerChapter 61: Chapter 59: Give Me a Hammer
The moment the building stopped shaking, Feng Ling pulled the pin on another grenade, silently counted to two, opened the door, and threw it.
A deafening BOOM rang out, mixed with anguished howls.
In the brief flash of the explosion, all Zhou Diao saw was the end of Feng Ling’s throwing motion.
"Again?!" Zhou Diao exclaimed. ’Those weapons from Su Yuqing were for emergencies! Why are you so happy to just toss them all away?’
’Nope, I’ve got to throw one too!’
"It’s called the element of surprise, hehe~" Feng Ling laughed. "They’d never expect me to throw a second one. Let’s go!"
Feng Ling suddenly grabbed Zhou Diao and bolted up the stairs.
BANG!
The sound was so loud that Zhou Diao almost thought Feng Ling had thrown a third grenade.
He pulled out a flashlight and aimed the beam, revealing a burly figure covered in Hard Armor who had just smashed open the sturdy fire door.
Blinded by the light, the Hard-Armored man shielded his eyes and started to run back down.
Feng Ling hooked one of his legs with her Teeth and Claws and shouted, "Get over here and help!"
"There are still tenants on the third floor! We can’t let it get away!" Zhou Diao rushed forward, his two Beast Claws pinning the creature down. He cursed, "It’s convenient for you in this damn darkness, but I can’t see a thing!"
"The Alien Species can’t see any better than you can. Besides, didn’t Old Su give you night-vision goggles?"
Feng Ling released her Teeth and Claws and turned to look down the fourth-floor corridor—
’Any Alien Species that survived two bombings are the ones I need to take seriously.’
The closest was a purple-skinned monster crawling on the ground. It resembled a catfish, the skin on its back charred black from the explosion.
Behind the Catfish Monster stood two Knight-like Alien Species.
They weren’t wearing actual armor, of course. Their skin and bones had mutated into the shape of plating, and their hands had formed into a standard sword and shield.
Feng Ling knew Cards were a product of genetics, but she was still shocked that they could alter a body to this degree.
Behind the two Knight Mutants was the tattered upper half of a woman’s body. She was sunk into a pool of flesh and blood, hair disheveled, frantically screaming, "Old Mo! Old Mo, come out!"
’Who’s Old Mo?’
Feng Ling was curious, but her attention was drawn to something else: the squirming mass of flesh beneath the woman’s body looked familiar.
Ah...
She remembered now. It was the woman whose body spawned Vampire Worms.
’So they keep their gender when they log back in? I thought Alien Species could be male or female.’
Feng Ling quietly observed them.
The darkness kept the Alien Species from making any rash moves.
In reality, only a few seconds had passed since the explosion.
Just then, a shower of electric sparks suddenly burst from the back of the Catfish Monster on the floor.
Feng Ling froze.
It was followed by another burst of sparks, bigger and brighter, momentarily lighting up the entire corridor.
The two Knights behind the Catfish Monster saw Feng Ling’s position and charged, swords raised. Even their footsteps mimicked the clanking of metal armor.
Their longswords slashed down!
Unable to dodge in time, Feng Ling blocked the attack head-on with her two Bone Blades.
CLANG!—
The ear-piercing metallic screech assaulted her eardrums, as if she were facing two real, steel-forged knight’s swords.
If she hadn’t upgraded the hardness of her Bone Blades, they would have shattered on impact.
The knight’s swords bore down on her. Feng Ling was struggling against two opponents and didn’t want to meet their force with her own. Maintaining the angle of her Bone Blades to deflect their pressure, she quickly dropped sideways, pushed off with one hand, and somersaulted behind the two Knight Mutants.
The two Teeth and Claws on her shoulders lunged forward, one for each Knight, clamping down hard on their necks.
This time, however, the Teeth and Claws met their match. The fangs scraped against the surface as if biting a thick iron bar, unable to even scratch the flesh.
Meanwhile, the Catfish Monster on the floor was still struggling to generate sparks, and the Vampire Worm Woman in the back was trying to flee.
For the first time, Feng Ling felt completely spread too thin.
She snatched the Cat Spider and Cat Owl from her shoulders and hurled them like grenades. "You two had better do something useful!"
The Cat Spider’s fur bristled all over its body!
The Cat Owl flapped its wings like a startled chick.
’A pang of regret hit Feng Ling. Had she made a mistake by hatching them early? They were so small, throwing them out there was like serving up a snack.’
The two Knight Mutants spun around in unison, swords raised to strike again.
Feng Ling hastily retracted her Bone Blades and Teeth and Claws, backing away quickly.
’That Catfish Monster on the ground is a real problem. If it weren’t for the sparks it keeps giving off, the Knights wouldn’t be able to see me at all.’
’Then again, what part of its body is even generating the electricity?’
Gritting her teeth, Feng Ling deliberately made a noise to the left side of the corridor.
The two Knights reacted to the sound. The instant their longswords came slashing down, she dodged right, sprinted toward the Catfish Monster, hooked its skull with her Teeth and Claws, and yanked it into the air.
Her lunge was so loud that the Knights’ swords immediately changed course, stabbing right at her.
SQUELCH!
Feng Ling spun around. The Catfish Monster she’d just hoisted up had been run clean through by the two longswords. Blood sprayed across her face—
The stench of blood sent a surge of fury through her.
Her two Bone Blades shot up, catching the Knights’ necks once more. It didn’t hurt them, but it bought her a moment to get away.
Feng Ling slipped between them, but one of the Knight Mutants swung its shield-like arm, smashing it into her.
Her left shoulder felt like it had been struck by solid rock. The bone nearly shattered!
She stumbled but caught her balance, then, incandescent with rage, lunged forward with her Teeth and Claws, clamping down on the "armor" at the Knight’s knee and yanking with all her might.
The Knight fell with a THUD. As it struggled to rise, bending at the waist, Feng Ling viciously kicked it in the back.
The other Knight’s sword arrived with perfect precision, slicing off its comrade’s head.
’Feng Ling realized her Bone Blades weren’t hard enough. Trying to brute-force a fight with this kind of monster would only end badly for her.’
A black shadow and a white one pounced on the Knight!
It was the two little ones she had just tossed out.
The Cat Owl flapped its wings, clawing at the Knight’s head, while the Cat Spider scrambled over its body, its spinnerets secreting a translucent silk.
Feng Ling felt a touch of gratification.
’And was it just her imagination, or had the two little ones grown slightly larger?’
She took a deep breath, using the precious few seconds of distraction to analyze her opponent. Its entire body was hardened armor. Its hands had become a sword and a shield. The only weak points, the joints, were tucked away seamlessly, making a precision strike almost impossible.
’If only there was a river nearby. This thing would sink like a stone.’
’But short of that, how could she beat it?’
’Her scythe bone blade was sharp, but too thin and delicate. Her Teeth and Claws were also having a hard time against this rock-hard opponent. If only she had a blunt weapon... something like a heavy Iron Hammer with massive impact force.’
...An Iron Hammer?
’Little Skeleton!’
Feng Ling had been so caught up in the fight that she’d forgotten Huangfu Miaomiao was still in Room 414. She spun around and sprinted off.
The grenades had blown most of the doors to bits; she couldn’t even tell which room was 414 anymore!
She checked several rooms before finally spotting Huangfu Miaomiao in a room choked with fleshy vines and flowers—
Huangfu Miaomiao was hanging upside down on the wall, pinned by some sort of slime mold. The moment she saw Feng Ling, she looked utterly wronged and burst into tears.
Unfortunately, Feng Ling had no words of comfort for her. She just urged, "Give me a hammer!"
