"I’ve already had dinner, and I’m still completely full. How about this instead? Replace tonight’s meal with a few packs of cigarettes," Enzo replied.
He was almost out of cigarettes, and that was what worried him the most.
He figured buying them himself would be troublesome. As for asking Bella, she would probably lecture him instead.
The moment Emma heard his request, she looked as though someone had slapped her across the face. Her expression shifted between red and blue with anger.
"I hope you die tonight," she snapped before stomping away.
She was clearly furious, but with so many people around, she couldn’t throw a full-blown tantrum.
Even her outburst drew strange looks from everyone nearby, and before long, people began whispering about who she was and the embarrassing fact that she had failed her Awakening.
"Enzo!"
A young man wearing glasses called out his name.
It was Felix Gibson, another student from Z City who had awakened an A-Class Talent.
This guy barely spoke to anyone, so Enzo was naturally surprised to be called by him.
He looked much better now than he had back in school, where he had been the very image of a bookworm. Even so, he still wasn’t particularly eye-catching. If he tried any harder to improve his appearance, he’d probably end up looking like a fake pretty boy.
"What is it?" Enzo asked calmly.
Most people felt inferior in front of someone with an A-Class Talent.
But confidence came from strength.
Even if Enzo wanted to act humble, he simply couldn’t unless he deliberately forced himself to put on an act.
"I spent 1 SP to check your level. Why does my System say you’re Level 13?" Felix asked.
Enzo, "..."
He couldn’t believe what he had just heard.
Who in the world would be foolish enough to spend SP checking the level of someone who had supposedly failed to Awaken?
One SP wasn’t particularly valuable, but the thought had never even crossed his mind.
Even beginners rarely bothered checking each other’s levels. For the time being, they could roughly estimate them just by counting how many Goblins everyone had killed.
"Is... is my System bugged?" Felix muttered.
"Maybe your brain is the one that’s bugged," Enzo replied.
This time, Felix didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he stared at Enzo without blinking for several long seconds.
"You checked again?"
Enzo’s eyes widened.
"You’re really Level 13... Who exactly are you?"
"Are you looking for trouble?" Enzo asked.
"N-No, of course not! Why would I pick a fight with someone stronger than me whose true strength I know nothing about?" Felix hurriedly replied, clearly panicking.
He obviously wasn’t a brave person.
Until now, his curiosity had simply gotten the better of him.
The moment Enzo showed a hint of anger and intimidation, fear immediately took over.
"I’m sorry. I was wrong. I couldn’t control my curiosity. If you want to keep this secret, I swear I won’t tell anyone," he added.
Of course, even if this secret were exposed, it wouldn’t be a major issue.
The Association probably wouldn’t even ask why Enzo possessed such strength.
At most, they would simply register him as an Awakener.
After all, this was an era filled with miracles.
Unexpected things happened all the time.
Still, Enzo had grown rather fond of living peacefully as an ordinary person.
Since this had been his life from the very beginning, he wasn’t eager for everything to change just yet.
Fortunately, this one’s a coward, Enzo thought.
A smile slowly appeared on his face.
"Felix, would you help me with something?" Enzo asked.
"Help you?"
Felix looked both surprised and confused.
"Buy a few packs of cigarettes for me."
Enzo needed someone he could rely on.
Perhaps Felix would be a good place to start.
It wasn’t that he enjoyed using other people.
But if he wanted to grow faster, his current situation demanded it.
"C-Cigarettes? A few packs?"
Enzo figured Felix simply wasn’t familiar with something like smoking.
"Give me your bank account number. I’ll transfer the money."
"No need. I’ll use my own money. I’ll go buy them now," Felix finally nodded.
"Alright. Thanks."
Enzo smiled and waved him off.
Felix immediately left.
Of course, that didn’t mean Felix was someone who blindly obeyed others.
After awakening an A-Class Talent, he had naturally gained confidence in himself.
However, the person giving him orders was someone who had started on the same day yet somehow possessed a level far beyond his own.
That alone was enough to crush Felix’s confidence in front of Enzo.
Enzo had no idea where Felix intended to buy the cigarettes.
He closed the door and sat back down on his bed.
Naturally, his attention remained fixed on Violet.
Under his control, she continued walking until she reached a small lake connected to the canal.
It wasn’t far from the river marked on the map.
Beside the lake stretched a forest filled with rolling hills and dense trees.
From the outside, it looked harmless.
But through the System screen, Enzo could detect countless movements hidden within.
The darkness prevented him from seeing them clearly.
Even the moonlight struggled to penetrate the thick forest.
Enzo stroked his chin while studying the photo of the map on his phone.
He still needed to locate several landmarks before determining the safest route forward.
There was no need to rush Violet.
More importantly...
He still had 1,500 SP.
Naturally, it was all for Violet.
"Use all of my SP on Violet!" he commanded.
Previously, he had only spent 1,000 SP.
This time, he was using 1,500 instead.
Not without reason.
Among Awakeners, there was a common belief born from experience:
After obtaining a valuable reward, failing to increase the amount of SP used in the next Gacha significantly increased the chances of getting junk.
DING!
(You have spun the Gacha using 1,500 System Points for your character, Violet Muller!)
[SP: 0]
As the Gacha began to spin, Enzo’s heart pounded with nervous anticipation.
He wanted only one thing.
For Violet’s strength to increase dramatically from this pull.
