Waylon was completely stunned, frozen in place.
He had even been about to reprimand Enzo for leaving the prison.
Of course, he could no longer do that now.
All he could do was stare at Enzo and Charlotte until the two of them disappeared from sight.
Enzo wasn’t merely attracting the attention of people his age anymore. He was drawing the attention of other Awakeners as well.
Even those who didn’t know who Charlotte was could immediately tell that she was someone extraordinary.
Why would a woman like her leave with a man who had failed to awaken?
When they arrived in front of the portal, Augus Brown and his lackeys appeared next.
Enzo couldn’t help but frown.
Why did he keep running into annoying people?
And why was Augus coming through the Z City Portal instead of the New York Portal?
Augus’s eyes immediately flickered with surprise.
"Miss O’Conner," he greeted her.
Despite possessing an S-Class Talent, he still treated Charlotte with respect.
The latter merely nodded without stopping.
She walked straight into the portal, leaving Augus with no chance to say anything more.
Z City appeared before them.
It was already night, so the streets were somewhat quieter.
People hadn’t completely gone home yet, though, since the evening was only just beginning.
Enzo didn’t stop walking because Charlotte didn’t either.
She walked toward a white sports car—the same one she had driven the previous night.
She took out the car’s remote key.
"You can drive, right?" she asked Enzo.
"I’ve learned before, but I’ve never actually driven on the road. And a car like this might be different," he replied with a wry smile.
At his age, it was admittedly embarrassing not to be skilled at something like this.
Charlotte smiled when she heard that and simply placed the remote in Enzo’s hand.
"The important thing is that you’ve driven before. Besides, this isn’t difficult, and this car is much easier to drive. You’ll get the hang of it after a while."
"Charlotte, but..." Enzo tried to refuse, but she had already walked over to the passenger-side door.
"Wouldn’t it be embarrassing for a man to let a woman drive him around?" she said before getting into the car.
Enzo rolled his eyes.
He stared at the remote in his hand. He actually thought it probably wouldn’t be that difficult either, but the situation itself made him uncertain.
Since he wanted to know what Charlotte really wanted from him, he eventually got into the driver’s seat.
With just one glance, he immediately understood almost all of the car’s features.
The engine started with a press of the button on the remote.
"Just press the accelerator. If there’s a wall in front of you, it’ll brake automatically," Charlotte said when Enzo glanced at her.
Enzo calmly pressed the accelerator, and the car began moving slowly.
He drove onto the road and didn’t find it difficult at all.
Even if he wanted to panic, he couldn’t. His perception had already changed drastically. Although he was still technically human, he was now far beyond an ordinary person.
If he simply ran, he could easily reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
Without realizing it, he began accelerating the car.
"Which restaurant are we going to?" Enzo asked.
He knew there was no point in immediately asking what kind of help she wanted.
"North Fancy. Have you heard of it?"
"North Fancy?" Enzo felt like he had heard the name before, but he didn’t really know the place.
Z City was enormous. There were more high-end restaurants than he could count.
"Here." Charlotte adjusted the map on the dashboard screen, and the route to the restaurant immediately appeared.
To his surprise, it was located right next to the governor’s office.
In Z City, the Governor was naturally above the Mayor. The latter only governed the city, while the Governor oversaw the entire state and possessed far greater authority—even within Z City itself.
"I didn’t know there was a restaurant here. It must be extremely exclusive," Enzo said.
"It is. It’s very exclusive. The Governor himself had it built for anyone who wants to discuss business with the state government."
"Then do you have business with them?" Enzo asked.
Of course, he also guessed that it might have something to do with the Monster Prison Charlotte wanted to build.
Its construction would clearly be complicated. As for the permits, practically no one would dare make things difficult for the O’Conner Family in America. But if she wanted everything to proceed quickly and smoothly, the state government’s assistance would be extremely important.
"Yes..." Charlotte nodded calmly.
"Then what about me?" Enzo asked, wondering about his role there.
There shouldn’t really be any reason for him to be involved.
"My request is simply for you to accompany me. I just don’t want to go alone." Charlotte gave him a faint smile.
"Just kidding. Of course, I do need you. There’s a building owned by your father that I want to buy. He originally planned to turn it into a Monster Prison, but after he died, the project was abandoned. I want to continue it."
"What? My father owned a building?" Enzo was stunned.
As far as he knew, his father had never been interested in wealth.
He never built any businesses, and whenever he obtained valuable items, he usually traded them for whatever he found useful.
Money was only enough for his daily expenses, and sometimes he simply asked Alex Muller for some, since Alex had built businesses under the Muller name.
Essentially, his father was a man who cherished the Awakener artifacts, though in the end, they were lost with his death—except for one, which fell into Rebecca’s hands.
A building large enough to be turned into a Monster Prison in Z City would certainly be worth an enormous amount of money.
Why hadn’t he known about it?
And why hadn’t it been inherited by him?
Did his uncle know about this?
"Your father bought the building from the state government, which owned the property, just one week before he died. It seems the Governor never told you. But that’s understandable. Your father only transferred the money and asked the Governor to handle everything, including the renovation. If he didn’t tell you, who would have known that the building had become your father’s property? Now, it’s essentially a private warehouse that generates a decent amount of profit."
Enzo was speechless.
He couldn’t say anything after learning this.
His uncle might genuinely not have known about it either.
If he had known, he definitely would have claimed it.
"Are you going to help me obtain the building and then buy it from me?" Enzo asked.
"Exactly..." Charlotte nodded.
"You should be able to get it from the Governor without buying it from me, considering your grandfather’s influence," Enzo said.
"Don’t think I’m that petty. Our family has enough pride not to take something that belongs to someone else," Charlotte replied.
"Is that so?" Enzo wasn’t convinced.
There were almost no wealthy families without some kind of ugly rumor surrounding them, and those rumors were usually based on the truth—they simply couldn’t be proven.
Charlotte merely smiled without answering.
"We’re going to pass by the building," she said.
"On the main road?" Enzo was even more surprised.
They were already approaching the city center. This was the widest road in Z City, and the price per square meter was far higher than anywhere else.
"Here it is." Charlotte pointed toward a building that was actually right next to the mall he had visited yesterday.
It was almost half the size of the mall. It only had one floor, but it might have a basement like the Monster Prison in the Sanctuary.
The building had an enormous courtyard, with large trucks constantly coming and going.
Enzo was worried that the entire property, including the land, might cost more than $200 million.
And that building had been purchased by his father.
Considering that the Governor seemed to be an honorable and honest old man, Enzo could only sigh as he thought about how much that old man had taken from him.
Not long after, Enzo finally saw the Governor’s office. It stood in the middle of a vast, circular lawn.
The office was right at the center, surrounded by the offices of various state departments.
However, there was no restaurant in sight.
The location shown on the map was a large swimming pool, not a restaurant.
Enzo had almost never been here, but it was obvious that there couldn’t possibly be a restaurant here. This was a government office complex, after all.
The entire area belonged to the state government.
He looked at Charlotte in confusion.
"Actually, only accounts with certain permissions can see the restaurant on the map," the woman explained before pointing toward an entrance to the underground parking lot.
"Go in there."
Enzo drove the car inside.
Naturally, there was a barrier at the entrance. However, it opened automatically as the car approached.
Once inside, all he saw was an ordinary underground parking lot filled with various government vehicles.
Then Enzo’s attention was immediately drawn to a steel gate that was currently opening because a car had stopped in front of it.
When the steel gate opened completely, the car drove through.
It didn’t look like a road leading to another underground level.
This parking lot should only have one floor.
