"That was top-tier edgy dialogue," Ken praised himself internally. "I sounded exactly like a grumpy rival character. I just told them they are weak. Now they will get super motivated. They will fight twice as hard to prove me wrong. It is basic shounen anime psychology. I am a tactical genius."
The three Grandmasters stood up slowly. They did not look angry. They did not look insulted. They accepted his harsh words completely. They knew Lancelot was a strict, legendary entity. They were entirely used to his icy demeanor.
"You speak the absolute truth, Lancelot," Nimph agreed firmly. Her green eyes flashed with intense determination. She raised her hand. A thick green vine curled around her wrist. "We failed our initial duty. But we will not fail again. We will wipe these dark monsters from our home."
Lugh spun his light spear. He nodded enthusiastically. "We will show you our true strength! We will clear the northern district in ten minutes!"
Oisin strummed a loud, sharp chord on his guitar. "Let us make some noise!"
The three warriors prepared to dash down the street. They wanted to join the massive battle raging in the central plaza. They wanted to prove their worth to the masked god.
Suddenly, the ground beneath their boots began to shake violently.
The earthquake was not caused by a giant monster. It was caused by a massive surge of toxic dark magic. The temperature in the street plummeted even further. The air turned so cold that the puddles on the ground instantly froze into solid ice.
Ken stopped hovering. He floated down slightly. He narrowed his dark eyes behind the purple mask.
"Oh, come on," Ken complained lazily in his mind. "I just gave a great motivational speech. The cutscene is supposed to be over. Why is the ground shaking again? This game has entirely too many random encounters. I am going to write a very negative review on the magical message boards."
The dark, swirling purple fog in the street gathered together. It spun rapidly. It formed into five tall, jagged portals. The portals looked exactly like bleeding wounds in the air.
"Stand back!" Nimph ordered. She stepped in front of her friends. She raised her glowing vines. "More enemies are arriving! Prepare a defensive line!"
Oisin and Lugh raised their weapons. They stared at the dark portals.
Five figures stepped out of the swirling purple light. They landed heavily on the frozen cobblestones.
Ken looked at the new arrivals. He let out a long, silent sigh.
"More bad guys," Ken thought. He slouched his shoulders under his black cloak. "They just keep spawning. It is an endless wave defense mode. I really hope my spirits are not getting tired. Fighting waves of enemies is incredibly boring."

But these new enemies were not normal Black Spirits. They were not mutated shadow wolves. They were not giant stone trolls.
They were human.
They wore beautiful, highly advanced combat armor. But the armor was completely shattered and broken. The metal plates were cracked. The bright colors were stained with dark gray ash.
Ken looked closer at their faces. He felt a tiny spike of genuine surprise.
The five figures looked absolutely terrifying. Their skin was a sickly, pale gray color. Thick, pulsing black veins crawled up their necks and across their cheeks. The veins looked like dark, poisonous spider webs. Their eyes did not look normal. Their eyes glowed with a blinding, toxic purple light.
They looked exactly like zombies. But they radiated a massive, overwhelming amount of raw magical power. They were infinitely stronger than the normal, mind-controlled citizens.
Nimph stared at the five figures. Her fierce, confident expression completely vanished. Her jaw dropped wide open. Her arms fell weakly to her sides. The thick green vines dissolved into harmless water and splashed onto the street.
"No," Nimph whispered. Her voice cracked with pure, unfiltered horror. Tears instantly filled her green eyes. "No. This cannot be real. This is impossible."
Oisin lowered his silver guitar. His hands shook violently. "It is them. It is actually them."
Lugh took a slow, terrified step backward. He looked completely heartbroken.
Ken floated closer to the ground. He tilted his head. He watched the three confident warriors completely fall apart. He did not understand their sudden panic.
"Why are they crying?" Ken analyzed casually in his mind. "They just destroyed a hundred shadow monsters without breaking a sweat. Why are they scared of five zombie guys? These new enemies just have a different color palette. It is a very basic asset swap."
Nimph fell to her knees on the frozen street. She did not raise her weapon. She covered her mouth with her hands. She openly sobbed. She stared at the terrifying, infected figures standing in the purple fog.
She slowly turned her head. She looked up at Lancelot hovering in the sky. Her face was a mask of absolute tragedy.
"Great Lancelot," Nimph cried loudly. Her voice echoed with deep, profound sadness. She pointed a trembling finger at the five glowing-eyed monsters. "They are not mindless beasts. They are our friends. They are our family."
Ken stopped slouching. He stood perfectly straight in the air. He listened very closely.
"They are the other five Grandmasters of the Blackmoon faction," Nimph revealed. Tears streamed down her cheeks. "They are the greatest heroes of our kingdom. They protected the inner palace. They guarded the King."
Nimph pointed her finger at the black veins crawling across their faces.
"The traitor Greed did this to them," Nimph sobbed in pure despair. "Greed did not just lock us away. He captured our friends. He used his forbidden science on them. He infected them with the dark magic. He corrupted their minds entirely. He turned the greatest heroes of Bluemoon into mindless, toxic puppets for the Black Magicians."
The five corrupted Grandmasters stood perfectly still. They did not speak. They did not show any emotion. They simply raised their legendary weapons. Their weapons sparked with deadly, dark purple energy. They aimed their attacks directly at their former teammates.
The tragic, heartbreaking reality of the situation crashed down on the street. The Blackmoon faction was forced to fight their own corrupted family. The absolute worst possible scenario had just arrived, and the true cruelty of the traitor scientist was finally exposed in the dark, rainy city.
---
The dark sky rained black water onto the broken streets. The capital city of the Bluemoon Kingdom lay in absolute ruins. Destroyed stone buildings burned with dark purple flames. The air felt incredibly cold.
Nimph knelt on the wet cobblestones. The beautiful warrior had long green hair. She wore a silver chest plate. Tears streamed down her face. She looked at the five figures standing in the purple fog.
The figures were the five greatest heroes of her kingdom. They were the Grandmasters. But they did not look like heroes anymore. They looked like terrifying monsters. The traitor scientist had infected them. He used forbidden dark magic. He turned them into mindless, toxic puppets.
