According to the information she’d gotten from the Xenomorph, the humans here were supposed to be living in a place called the Shelter, surrounded by sturdy walls that even an adult Xenomorph couldn’t breach.

Perry Yates’s original mission, however, was to find these outward-venturing survivors, earn their trust, and then capture them to serve as hosts for new Phase-bugs.

After some thought, Perry Yates decided to check out the Shelter. After all, searching aimlessly was quite dangerous.

With that thought, Perry Yates lifted a hand and pulled a vehicle from her Space Backpack. It was much faster than walking.

Especially in a situation like this, Perry Yates didn’t have to worry about traffic laws or the possibility of hitting anyone.

She drove on aimlessly, keeping watch until the sky began to darken. Suddenly, her gaze fixed on a particular direction.

"After all this time, I’ve finally found someone alive."

Perry Yates turned the steering wheel and headed in that direction.

Soon, a bright light appeared in her line of sight—the glow of a campfire.

However, it seemed Perry Yates wasn’t the only one who had found them. Two adult Xenomorphs were there as well.

With her keen eyesight, Perry Yates could clearly see seven people around the campfire. One of them, a young man, had a bizarre expression. He had probably been implanted by a Xenomorph.

Sure enough, the next second, the young man abruptly stood up, his face contorted in pain.

The others saw this and started to move forward, concerned, but one person realized something was wrong and shouted to his companions, "Get away from him! He’s been implanted by a Xenomorph!"

At his words, everyone was first stunned, then their bodies reacted faster than their minds.

In the blink of an eye, the area around the young man was empty.

Just then, the Xenomorph inside the young man could wait no longer. The man’s stomach burst open, and a creature resembling a slug magnified countless times wriggled out.

Seeing this, the others immediately drew their weapons, ready to attack.

However, while they might have been able to handle a single Xenomorph, there was more than one in their midst.

Just in the nick of time, Perry Yates flung out three cards.

One struck the large, slug-like Xenomorph, while the other two hit the pair hiding in the darkness.

Only then did the survivors realize that two more Xenomorphs had been lurking behind them.

The next second, the bodies of the three Xenomorphs instantly burst into roaring flames. Mere seconds later, all three had been reduced to ash.

By the time it was over, Perry Yates had arrived before the group.

Retrieving the three cards with a flick of her wrist, she offered the survivors a small smile. "Hello."

"Y-You... hello."

The survivors were still reeling from what they had just witnessed, completely stunned.

Ten minutes later, the group had relocated to a new resting spot. The young man was gone, but Perry Yates had joined them.

They welcomed Perry Yates’s addition warmly. After all, who wouldn’t want a powerful ally?

Although they didn’t think someone as formidable as Perry Yates could have been implanted by a Xenomorph, they still gave her a thorough check for safety.

The final check, naturally, revealed no issues.

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief at the result.

After all, if Perry Yates had been implanted, judging by the power she’d just displayed, none of them would have survived the encounter.

"Were those poker cards you just used? How did you do that?"

One of the women in the group leaned in and asked curiously.

After all, the bodies of Xenomorphs were incredibly tough, especially the adult ones. If they weren’t, people wouldn’t be desperately researching new weapons to fight them.

"Just a type of weapon," Perry Yates said evasively.

She didn’t know how to explain it anyway. It was an Extraordinary Ability, and this world wasn’t supposed to have such things. Even if it did, they weren’t something ordinary people would ever encounter.

Seeing that Perry Yates was unwilling to elaborate, the woman was tactful enough not to press the issue.

"Oh, right. I’m Elara Lynch. What’s your name?"

"Leah Lowell," Perry Yates replied simply.

"Leah Lowell... you’re so powerful, how have we never heard of you? You’re not from around here, are you? Where did you come from? What are things like over there?"

Hearing this, Perry Yates didn’t answer. Instead, a perfectly timed look of sorrow crossed her face.

Seeing her expression, Elara Lynch and the others seemed to understand, and they all tactfully dropped the subject.

After a long moment, Elara Lynch patted Perry Yates on the shoulder. "If you don’t mind, why don’t you come back with us for now?"

This was exactly what Perry Yates wanted.

"Okay."

"But you’ll have to wait a couple of days before we head back," Elara Lynch said. "We still have a mission to complete."

"What mission?" Perry Yates asked casually.

"We’re scouting the location of a Hive. We’re planning to launch an attack on it soon.

But its location is extremely well-hidden. We’ve been out for days and haven’t found a thing. If we can’t find it by tomorrow, we’re planning to head back."

"The intel from that map dealer must have been bad. We haven’t seen any sign of a Hive this whole way. This trip has been a total bust."

"If you’re talking about a Hive, I know where one is. I just don’t know if it’s the one you’re looking for."

Hearing Perry Yates say this, Elara Lynch and the others were instantly intrigued, turning their heads to look at her.

Immediately, one of them took a hand-drawn map out of their pack.

"Do you remember the approximate location of that Hive?"

Perry Yates nodded. "Of course. I escaped from it."

Hearing this, Elara Lynch and the others couldn’t help but look at her with admiration.

It wasn’t that no one had ever escaped from a Hive before, but such people were few and far between, and every single one of them was a stone-cold badass.

For an obscure little team like theirs, people like that were the stuff of legends. They’d only ever heard stories; they never thought they’d actually meet one in the flesh.

"Can you tell us how you escaped?" Elara Lynch asked.

Her eyes shone as she spoke, like a star-struck fan.

"I just walked out," Perry said casually. "I cooked the Insect Eggs, ate them, and then I just walked out."

Perry Yates’s words left everyone present stunned into silence once again.

"Did you just say you ate the Insect Eggs and then just... walked out of the Hive?"
