A face even more commanding than the pink-haired young man’s appeared before Perry Yates. With sharp brows and starry eyes, every feature was flawless. Those eyes, in particular, were like those of a bloodthirsty beast, ready to deliver a fatal blow to its prey at any moment.

Just then, the pink-haired young man who had just been "groped" sidled over with a cheeky grin. "Didn’t you say you wanted to kiss any handsome man you saw just to see what it’s like? So why aren’t you kissing him now? Or do you think my boss isn’t good-looking?"

The pink-haired man stared at Perry Yates provocatively, arms crossed, his expression seeming to say, ’Go on, kiss him. What’s stopping you?’

At this, Perry Yates’s lips curved into a faint smile. "You said it yourself, he’s *your* man. I’m not interested in men who belong to other people."

The moment she spoke, the smile on the pink-haired man’s face froze once again.

"You can cook?" the man asked again.

This time, Perry Yates could clearly hear the impatience in his voice.

Perry Yates nodded. "A little."

The words had barely left her mouth when a bloody carcass appeared before her.

It was bloody because a part of the animal had clearly already been eaten.

"You’re in charge of the cooking."

’The imperious tone was irritating, but one look at that divinely sculpted face and her anger vanished. ’Oh, well,’ she thought. ’It’s just cooking. My original plan was to find someone powerful to rely on anyway.’

Going it alone was too difficult, especially when you didn’t know when the enemies might evolve. So, she had decided to find a strong fighter to back her up.

The two men before her were a good choice. They both exuded the aura of the powerful. And most importantly...

Perry Yates deftly carved a slice of meat from the wild boar and, while she was at it, used Ascension on it.

If she wanted to cooperate, Perry Yates knew she had to demonstrate her value.

Soon, a perfectly cooked, aromatic, and delicious piece of roast pork was ready. The seasonings were all items her Clone had previously collected.

In addition to the roast pork, Perry Yates used ingredients from her own supplies to make a fragrant mushroom soup.

She had fused with a Chef Card before, so her culinary skills were undeniable. ’But... they couldn’t be good enough to make someone cry with joy, could they?’

Perry Yates watched the pink-haired youth, tears streaming down his face as he ate the roast pork and drank the mushroom soup. "It hasn’t been easy," he sobbed while eating. "It really hasn’t! After all this time, I finally get to eat something meant for humans!"

Amber Sheridan’s tears were genuine. The Croupiers’ games were usually held in desolate wastelands and rarely in cities—and even then, they were post-apocalyptic ruins. Moreover, after every game began, the original supplies in one’s Space Backpack would vanish. This meant Amber Sheridan, who was completely clueless and utterly talentless in the kitchen, had suffered immensely.

As for his boss, Evan Fuller, the man wasn’t normal. To him, eating was merely a means of survival. He couldn’t care less about the taste; he could eat the most disgusting food with a completely blank expression.

To use Amber’s own words, the man was simply not human.

Thanks to that one meal, their relationship improved by leaps and bounds. Perry Yates could clearly sense the goodwill coming from the pink-haired man.

At the same time, she learned their names. The pink-haired man was Amber Sheridan, and the other was his childhood friend and boss, Evan Fuller.

’Evan Fuller?’

’With a name like that, he’d be the male lead in a novel, no doubt.’

The two came from the same planet, numbered 36728.

"I’m Perry Yates, from Cerulea, number 68656."

"A new number. Are you the first Croupier from your planet?" Amber Sheridan asked.

Perry Yates nodded. "Is there a problem with being the first Croupier?" she asked.

Amber Sheridan shook his head. "No problem, just curious."

After the three of them had eaten and drunk their fill, Perry Yates asked, "So, what’s your plan now?"

The two men had already tacitly accepted her into their group, because they needed a cook.

At her question, Amber Sheridan looked to Evan Fuller, as if waiting for him to speak.

"We move tonight," Evan Fuller uttered coldly, and then fell silent.

Amber Sheridan, who seemed long used to this, nodded and said, "Right. There are quite a few people this time. We should eliminate them all before the fifteen-day mark if we can."

Perry Yates immediately seized on the key point. "Why do we have to eliminate them all within fifteen days?"

Knowing this was Perry Yates’s first game as a Croupier, Amber Sheridan didn’t hide anything (she would have found out sooner or later anyway). "Because fifteen days is a critical threshold," he explained.

"Croupier games have one thing in common with regular games: every ten days, the difficulty level increases."

"And on day fifteen, all non-Croupier players instantly self-destruct and transform into Hunters."

"You’ve seen Hunters before, right?"

At his words, Perry Yates nodded. "I have."

’Not only have I seen them, I’ve killed one, too.’

"The Hunters created under these circumstances are even more vicious. And they’re extremely ugly." As he spoke, a look of disgust crossed Amber Sheridan’s face.

"Then if we eliminate everyone before the fifteen-day mark, will we be safe after that?" Perry Yates asked, her eyes wide.

Her question earned her an eye-roll from Amber Sheridan. "’Safe? Keep dreaming. That’s when things get most dangerous. But as for what that danger is, we don’t know either.’"

"In any case, we deal with one problem at a time. It’s better to face one unknown danger than to face two dangers at once."

Perry Yates wholeheartedly agreed with him.

And so, Perry Yates found a spot to herself and closed her eyes, ostensibly to rest. In reality, she was checking her recent gains.

This was the first time Perry Yates had seen a five-star Skill Card on anyone besides herself. And it wasn’t just one—there were several.

’Heavens knew she only had two five-star Skill Cards, and both of those were system rewards. But this man... he had one, two, three, four... five of them.’

’And that on top of his typical male-lead-in-a-novel name.’

’Could I actually be living inside a book?’

Perry Yates’s mind began to wander. ’If I’m really in a book, then what’s my role? The female lead? A supporting character? Or just a random nobody?’

Lost in these thoughts, Perry Yates actually drifted off to sleep.

Amber Sheridan walked over to look at the sleeping Perry Yates, then glanced at Evan Fuller, who stood a short distance away, and shook his head.

"So reckless. I have no idea how you managed to become a Croupier."
